Newbie with tons of unanswered questions
Vinasu replied to Bjordan2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1) It depends. We all react differently. I was back at work after 3 days, and I could definitely have done 2 weeks. However, people with more comorbidities or who are otherwise more sensitive need more time. 3) Other than no NSAIDS, I have no real restrictions. In fact, I'm more free than I've been in years. 4) Drink kefir or eat yogurt every day for a month after surgery to repopulate your gut bacteria. While anecdote does not equal data, I am certain it aided in my speedy recovery and lack of nausea. 6) Most people have significant improvements in sleep apnea after the surgery. In the early stages of deciding if surgery is the best option
Vinasu replied to Mountaln Gal's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was back at work 3 days after RNY, and feeling great a month after. I'm 44. I have a Premier Protein for Breakfast. Something like salmon or chicken for lunch, and I eat whatever my family is eating for dinner. I just cut out the carbs, eat slowly, and watch my portions. I am 1000x more confident. Before surgery, I had never met my husband's work mates because I was embarrassed for him. Now, I know them all. I started martial arts and picked up skiing. I feel like I have a ton of last time to make up for. I wish I had done this ten year's earlier. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App -
Her weight should make her eligible without co-morbidities. She should at least attempt to start the process and then go from there. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

Newbie here, no support at home.

Your husband sounds like a self-centered jerk. Why do you need his permission to use his insurance? It's your insurance, too. I started off a little heavier than you and slightly older. I was in agony walking down stairs. I couldn't take my kids to the mountains or the park. Now, I am a great mom. My kids are loving the new me and everything I can do with and for them. Shoot, this afternoon I'm chaperoning a walking field trip. I couldn't have done that last year! This is your life. It's not going to get better without surgery. You know the odds are completely against you. Maybe you and your husband should try couples counseling with a sympathetic therapist. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App -
Weight loss during Supervised Diet
Vinasu replied to Journey4myhealth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
32 pounds during my 3-month diet. I'm so glad I did. I've got that much less to lose in the honeymoon phase. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App -
I used to have a mixed-breed chow rescue pup named Misha. Best dog ever. She lived until she was 17. Anyway, that dog loved us and she loved rabbits. She loved catching cotton tails as a snack. She couldn't stand dry dog food, so she'd supplement her diet herself. Anyway, Misha had a good heart, and she really wanted to share her catch with her family. The problem was she really, really liked squishy bunny parts. Her solution? She'd bring us bunny heads. We'd come home to find a head on the front porch, a pile of heads near the back door, heads near the front gate. Delivery folks were freaked out. We tried to keep them cleaned up, but we'd go away for the weekend and come back to a bunny-head pyramid. The first time my sister-in-law came to visit, the dog greeted her in the car by dropping a head in her lap. Thank God we were out in the country or someone would have reported the screaming...and we'd have to explain the suspicious skull collection. "Honest, Officers, we're not a satanic bunny-killing cult!" Damn, I loved that dog. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

Yeah. I bled for the first two months. I have Mirena, so I hadn't had a period in years, but the hormone dump caused me to bled through in spite of it. I don't even want to know what would have happened without Mirena. The good news is that it evened out after six weeks when my weight loss stabilized. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

Over emotional and regretting surgery?
Vinasu replied to AimeeAnd's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
During the fastest weight loss pre- and the first month post-op, I bled constantly...and I have a Mirena, so I hadn't bled in years. The hormone dump was severe. However, by six weeks when my loss had more or less evened out, I had stopped and everything was back to normal. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App -

Husband says he doesn't like skinny women...WTH!
Vinasu replied to Dknal2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you're going through this at a time you need so much love and support. The bright side is the fact that this surgery will give you both years to your life and the energy to deal with things. It's a common theme: women give their entire lives to husbands and kids and when they finally decide to do something for themselves, the family can't handle the change. Stay strong. Four days out. My Dr wanted me to sleep sitting up for the first month, but that's the one area I was non-compliant. I simply could not sleep like that and was getting sicker and sicker. I finally said hell with it. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

Gastric bypass surgery in 10 days exactly
Vinasu replied to c.shelton5's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
1) When surgeons force you to buy food from them it's a money- grab. 90% of patients go through pre- and post- op buying their own food. Now, I always say you should follow your Dr.'s plan to the letter to maximize success, but in this case I'd probably get my own broth. 2) When I checked in, they took my vitals. I changed my clothes. They put the compression leggings on me, and gave me an IV. Blood transfusions are not normally done, especially for laproscopic surgery. Transfusions actually increase the odds of complications, so they are only given when absolutely necessary. When my daughter had brain surgery, the doctor was very concerned about trying to avoid blood. Honestly, your doctor doesn't sound all that great. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App -
family that won't stop eating badly ?
Vinasu replied to marissa_d's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Can you compromise? Are there goodies that you hate? I dislike anything with coffee, so we get my husband mocha ice cream, tiramisu, kalua candies, etc. I dislike pretzels and popcorn, so those are his salty Snacks. Maybe if your family is reasonable you can make this work for everyone. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App -
Some are, some aren't. Be careful, some are absolutely carb- laden. They do have high-Protein, low carb choices. Lean cuisine is also a good choice. Their Sweet Sriracha Beef is only 170 calories and something like 15 grams of protein. Go to their websites and look up the nutritional information. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

Should I wait and find out my surgery date? Sent from my LG-H910 using the BariatricPal App I think it depends on your BMI. If you're relatively low weight, you probably want to make sure you don't go below your insurance's threshold. If you're high BMI, start immediately. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App Mine is 52.8 Sent from my LG-H910 using the BariatricPal App Then you're likely not in danger of losing too much before surgery. Go for it. I did. Six weeks before surgery, I put myself on the bariatric food plan the best way I could. I started tracking food, limited calories to 1200 (couldn't go lower pre-op), and eating Protein first. I lost nearly 35 pounds in the six weeks before surgery. It was worth it, and I'm glad I started my honeymoon phase at a lower weight so I can get to goal as fast as possible.
