Hi everyone, Is it normal to barely get 12 ounces of Fluid in 3 days post op? I take tiny sips and I still get very "gurgley". I feel like that's my body telling me to slow down, but I can't go any slower! Should I ignore this feeling and keep sipping? I do my barium swallow tomorrow, so will ask doctor and NUT too, but still interested in others' experiences. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Officially sleeved yesterday in Tijuana at OCC with Dr. Ortiz. I weighed in at 173 lbs 28 BMI at the office the day before surgery. I am extremely pleased with the care. 4 other Americans were sleeved with me yesterday, and everyone is going amazing. I had a very nauseating/dizzying reaction to the anesthesia, so it took me about 8 hrs to get on my feet. I wanted to walk much earlier, but was just too dizzy. OCC was about checking on me constantly, including keeping pain killers, anti nausea meds, checking incisions and making sure I used the spirometer. I brought chapstick and gas x, which I was happy to have. I am not in any pain 18 hrs from surgery being completed. When I woke up from anesthesia, I had no catheter and no drain. Aside from reaction to the anesthesia and gurgling in my stomach/chest, I feel amazing. So excited to see the weight come off! Good luck low BMI sleevers!!! I'm sleeved! It was a rough first 12 hours because the anesthesia made me very dizzy and nauseous. Dr Ortiz and his whole staff at OCC are AWESOME!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm wondering how you are doing too @ladypoet. I'm in Tijuana! The medical center is very nice. Hotel is great. Met the staff and Dr. Ortiz. My bloodwork, ECG, and meeting with nutritionist went well. The hotel serves complimentary broths, popsicles and Water for your stay. Everyone from our driver from the airport to the nurses to Dr. Ortiz has been incredibly friendly and accommodating and overall I feel very ready and assured that surgery tomorrow will go well. I will let everyone know my status tomorrow evening. Hope we hear from LadyPoet soon! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Questions: Post surgery flight, Low BMI ?'s, can't sleep...
LowBMISleever posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Heading to Tijuana on Thursday (7/21/16) for my surgery on 7/22. I'm 31 years old, 5'6" SW was 180 (BMI 29), now 171 (BMI 27.6) after being almost done with the HELL that is pre-op. I am so nervous/excited that I literally can't sleep. Any tips on falling asleep with pre surgery jitters? After lurking on this site for about a month, I guess I'm obligated to explain why I'm getting the surgery with such a low BMI. So, here's my rationale: I'm a typical yo-yo dieter, up 40, down 20, up 45, down 15...and the ups kept getting higher and unfortunately so did the lows. Done every diet in the book, diet pills, personal trainers, orange theory, etc. My entire family is obese; family history includes diabetes, bilateral knee replacements from being too heavy, hypertension, stents... So I figured I could do the surgery as a still (relatively) healthy person, or wait until I gained enough that insurance covered me and I was pre-diabetic. I chose the former. I've learned a ton from the knowledgable, brave sleevers on this forum! But, I have a few questions that I hope someone has some experience with: Did anyone take a long flight right after their surgery? I'm flying home to south FL after surgery on 7/25 from San Diego. I'm nervous about pain/nausea on this flight. Anyone experience this? Any tips? Are there any veteran low BMI sleevers, 3 years out minimum, that would agree that the risk and the long-term side effects of the surgery were worth it? As I get closer to the surgery date, I keep second guessing my decision. How were your first few nights of sleep after surgery? How bad is the scarring on your belly? Just to motivate myself to follow this post up with an after shot, here's a before shot at my SW: Thanks for any info and support!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Go public or stay private?

Getting sleeved 7/22. I told my closest friends whom I spend a lot of time with and my parents about 3 weeks prior to surgery. I figured I'd be accused of anorexia or bulimia from - what I expect to be - huge changes in both my eating habits and appearance. I didn't want to deal with lying constantly (that would give me an ulcer). After I had already paid and really committed to the surgery (self pay in Mexico), I had a small get together at my house, let everyone get a few drinks in, and then told everyone (8 people). This method is NOT for the shy or the easily dissuaded. It went like this: "I have some news that no one is going to like, but I'm telling you all because you mean a lot to me and your support will really make or break my longterm success with this (that was me being a bit euphemistic bc I will cut off friendships with people that do not support me). I'm getting a VSG (explained what it was, why I was doing it). I will no longer be able to join in binge eating or binge drinking, but I know our friendship is based on much more than that. I really appreciate everyone's support." I felt like a politician letting the US know we were going to war! But the good part about telling a bigger group is that they all held back their gut reactions at first and listened. After they - I'm sure - talked about it with each other, half of the group reached out to me personally offering to help me lose weight by cooking for me, taking me to the gym, etc, ANYTHING besides the surgery. I really did appreciate their concern, but told them nicely that I was a binge eater and drinker and this surgery was the only way I could break my habitual issues with lack of impulse control. It's hard to admit this stuff publicly, but it felt really freeing once it was out there. A couple friends were super supportive from day one. I feel like if people really are your friends, they will end up being supportive because you're doing something positive for your longterm health. And, if they can't, then screw 'em - they weren't really your friends. I'm also making my friends feel like they're part of my journey. I created a whatsapp group with all of them to give them updates on my surgery from Mexico and will keep the updates coming throughout the first couple months. First, I won't get attacked with questions when I first see them, and, second, I feel like if people feel like they're on the journey with you, all they'll want to do is contribute in positive ways. Aside from close people, I've told people that needed to know where I would be for the 10 days of surgery/recoup (like work, my personal trainer, acquaintances) that I was getting my gallbladder removed. I had to come up with something! Hope this is helpful to someone! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
