Who do I tell about my surgery?

I agree with your approach. If I had a c-section, breast implants, a mastectomy, tummy tuck, gallbladder removal or a transplant surgery I would not just volunteer that information. Why would WLS be any different. My personal health information is private and not public knowledge. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App
  2. Well I was going to go with the nutritionist the program offers. I will call them tomorrow. Like KristenLe said, I just feel like they will prepare me for what I will be eating post surgery. I don't feel like this doctor did anything at all. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App
  3. Hello, I am just starting. I have Cigna and 3 months on a medically monitored diet. Question: Who are you doing your 90 day diets through, your PCP or a Nutritionist? I started my 90 day diet last week. And the PA at my Dr office gave me 2 sheets of paper. One said 'Diabetes Diet' and the 2nd one said 'Cholesterol Diet'. It is a list of things to avoid on each sheet. I find this useless. And I am thinking maybe I should scrape up the extra $70 for the dietician instead. I feel he's setting me up for failure. Psych eval?

I get why they ask those questions though. I have an aunt who is Schizophrenic & Bipolar, she hears voices and and says she's being watched and that the mafia is trying to kill her. She's one of the people who would mark yes on the test. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App

    Psych eval?

Yup, luckily is covered by insurance $40 copay each, if not that Dr is $365 per visit. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App
  6. Hi Jay, I am just starting also, enduring is going smoothly so far. When are you aiming to have your surgery by? Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App

    vitamins

I'd imagine everyone's body is different and depending on our diets the visited intake will vary per person. I also have the same issue, Vitamins tend to make me nauseous. So I've used Olly gummy vitamins in the past, I wonder if this will work after surgery? Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App

Who do I tell about my surgery?

I have told my parents, kids and 3 close friends. No one else. I don't want anyone else's opinion my self. And I've mentioned the idea years ago and everyone was really negative. Everyone knows someone, sister/cousin/coworker/friend who had a bad experience etc. I don't want to hear it. My life my choice, what ever the reason might be, that's for me to be okay with. 12. I took laudable for a year, it's the only one that didn't contribute to weight gain or make me feel groggy. A little nausea, but that's why I took it at night. It's Brand only do very pricey. Good luck. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App

  14. Hi, I'm 265lbs, I love in Orlando and have annual passes for Universal, but I know how you feel. I went a month back and could barely fit in the seat at Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts at 250lbs. They pushed the lap bar down so hard that my legs hurt and went numb (most my weight is in my thighs). I felt so embarrassed. Now I don't even bother going on that ride. I went on the Rip Ride Rocket roller-coaster and the lap bar closed but not the way everyone else's did. I didn't enjoy the ride because I was afraid I was gonna fall out of the seat at every loop. It is truly a terrible feeling when you can't enjoy life because of your size. I can't wait until start to lose some weight and can enjoy life again. If your 225 or less it shouldn't be an issue to get on the rides. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App
  15. Way to go! That's excellent! I can't wait until I can start losing weight myself. Your doing really well. Is it hard trying to monitor your protein, carbs, water, Vitamins, sugar, etc. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App
  16. I hope so. I have my consult with the dr. Scheduled for August 30th. I'm nervous. Trying to lose some weight on this 90 day diet is hard enough with out having to worry about them judging my mental stability off something from 2 years ago. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App
  17. Omg your worrying me with that now. I haven't seen a therapist or been on meds for months. No issues. I had terrible depression following a family death and terrible break up. But I've been fine ever since. But I was hospitalized years ago. I hope they don't turn me down. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App
  18. Sorry to hear Bottom line WLS is only considered a tool and I strongly believe you will do awesome with whichever option you choose. You sound excited and stoked to move forward in your new life of endless health opportunity. What's helped me before and post surgery is a mental health specialist I honestly believe their role is vital to ongoing success...I can't tell yah how much the inner me needed better health to support my outrageous changes(though still very newbie 6/28/2016) I'm looking forward to new good and bad challenges. And don't forget our awesome community of experience and assistanceI wish you miracles and blessings. God Bless you Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I'm a little nervous about that actually. A few years ago had a serious struggle with depression. I am a very different person now and haven't felt that way in over a year. I hope they don't hold my history from 3 years ago against me. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App
  19. I have talked to the coordinator assigned to me with Dr. Kim. It's covered 90% and I have to go through 3 months on a medically supervised diet. I have an appointment with my PCP to start the diet this coming Tuesday. I am so excited! Sadly SIPS isn't covered and the DS won't happen for my BMI, but I'm going to get the sleeve and hope for the best and dedicate my self to a healthier life. I can't wait to start this journey!!! 20. So I've been doing a lot of research and I really wanted the SADI but it's still considered experimental with Cigna. And the DS is only covered if I'm 50+ BMI and I'm only 47. Although the DS has better end results... I really don't like the sever side effects of bad gas. That's why I liked the idea of the SADI instead. Longer 300cm with more time to digest and I have not seen any posts about seriously foul smelling gas from patients with SADI as apposed to the many DS patients that do have that problem. I'm kinda bummed I might have to get the Sleeve only because of coverage issues. Unless the doctor can work a miracle. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App
  21. Reposting on most everything below. .. " I am looking into the SADI/SIPS surgery myself. I have been doing lots of research. I am 31 years old with a BMI of 47, 264lbs 5'3" right now. I live in Central Florida and although Dr. Jawad is the most famous, I'm looking into Dr. Smith at Celebration Hospital. I wanted to ask... all those who have done this surgery, how is the diarrhea and gas? I know with the Standard Duodenal Switch there are side effects of horrible smelling gas and diarrhea. I don't want to live my life in fear of clearing a room with my putrid stench. This is a major deal breaker for me. Is this a big problem with SADI/SIPS like it is for DS? How do you deal with it? Is the Vitamin regimen just as severe as it is for DS? What is your vitamin routine daily... what do you take, when, how often, etc? How much would you say it costs you for Vitamins monthly and where do you buy them? I'm sure I will have more questions to follow. Thank you all. " Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App

SIPS / SADI-S LOOP DS SUPPORT

I just want to say thanks to all of you who are sharing your story. I am looking into the SADI/SIPS surgery myself. I have been doing lots of research and there really isn't anything more assuring than hearing your experiences. I am 31 years old with a BMI of 47, 264lbs 5'3" right now. I live in Central Florida and although Dr. Jawad is the most famous, I'm looking into Dr. Smith at Celebration Hospital. My mother (66 y/o) is lucky to be approve 100% by insurance, but she's opting for Rouxen-Y. That's not for me. Everyone has to choose what's best for them.
