Which Food Did (Or Will) You Miss the Most?

I am only 4 wks out, 6 if u count the pre-op liquid fast. Weirdly, I REALLY miss and crave fresh fruit and veggies, including salad. Those are not what made me fat, but now that I can't have them... And I understand from other "lifers" that lettuce - - I love romaine--may be but a distant memory for me now. Of course, I have fleeting thoughts of ice cream, chocolate and donuts, but gotta think of them as poison now. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

    What was your protein goal?

During Stage 2 post-op eating plan, we are told to get a minimum of 60 g/day. I still drink 2 Premiere Protein shakes @30 g each, so I'm good for now. It will increase for Stages 3 & 4. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App
  4. I was told that insurance (mine is BCBS) would use my original weight from my first visit to the Bariatric Team. Other post-op patients told me it didn't matter whether I lost during the 6 months or not. I was really trying and lost 32 lbs during the 6 mo, (16 lbs the first mo) but started regaining as soon as I went off the 1200 cal/day regimen. I think if your starting BMI qualifies you, you should be ok. I agree with getting off the drug. Kinda surprised your GP put you on it for this...? 7. I wore the same clothes home that I wore to the hospital, but couldn't get dressed until they took my IV out. Seems to take forever till someone came!
  8. Lema, are you saying you are taking Metformin to help you stay regular? I haven't taken any since I started my pre-op liquid fast 6 wks ago. Was hoping I wouldn't need to take it ever again.
  9. Where do you get the BMI and Body Weight tickers? Is that on this app or another? Thanks!
  10. That's my birthday! I will think about you that day! Best wishes! I am 4wks out tomorrow on my RnY. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App
  11. Just a note: In my recent experience, (4 wks ago) some things in your list are provided in your room. Even if you don't want them, you will be charged for them. I didn't bring a heating pad, but used the hospital's. It was much larger and used warm Water, like a radiator. Had a looooooong cord, so I could move to the chair to sit, etc. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App
  12. I buy those individual cups of dry potato mix that you microwave. One of those makes 2-3 servings for me right now. Personally, I prefer Idahoan brand over Betty Crocker. You can thin them with almond milk, etc. Yummy! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App
  13. I am 4 wks out with RnY. I have yet to feel hunger or fullness. Have not had any issues with vomiting or nausea. I still measure my soft foods , but drink as much as I can--Much more than the 1 oz at a time for the first 10 days post-op--just not gulping it down. Have no issues with either temp extreme with liquids. Maybe I'm incredibly lucky...? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I467 using the BariatricPal App

How to Make the Most Out of Buffets

Our Bariatric Care Center gives us printed "restaurant cards" post-op to show to servers, managers, etc stating that we have had WLS and to allow us to share a plate , order from the children's menu, take home leftovers etc. Our city of 75, 000 is so used to this after a decade or so, that we do not get much push-back from any place. I also figured I could put mashed potatoes or similar food in a take-out to be weighed at, say, Golden Corral, pay and eat it at the table as was mentioned above. You shouldn't have to avoid restaurants the rest of your life. Just make adjustments. Oh, and Egg Drop Soup is a good choice at Chinese restaurants, I'm told. 16. CurlySueandthesleeve , you mentioned food getting "stuck". Do you know about papaya tablets? I have yet to need them, but bought some from the pharmacy to have on hand. Also, I go to restaurants with friends/family and drink my endless glass of unsweetened iced tea while we visit. Be sure to ask for a to-go cup! Encouraging to hear the reports of 3 mo and 6 mo emotional stages. I am 4 wks out tomorrow. Had a couple of "pity party" days in that time, but mostly doing great. Of course, my dad died 5 days after my surgery, so could account for some of it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I467 using the BariatricPal App

    Anthem BCBS Appeal

I have BCBS of MN. I was required to do 6 months of medically- supervised weight loss attempt, as well as have a psych evaluation. Was certified last Feb and told it was good for one year. . Got on surgery schedule after I thought, prayed, and researched more. Had RnY on June 20th. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

    My hair!

Agree with Protein remarks above, plus folks in my support group recommend taking a supplement called "hair, Skin, and Nails" made by Radiance. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

    The truth about ibuprofen...

I was told by my GPA years ago to lay off the nsaids, even tho naproxen sodium was the only thing that helped my knee pain and plantar fasciitis. Only very occasional use was allowed. Now my Bariatric surgeon/team have said "never again", so my new friend is liquid Tylenol. I am 4 wks out from RnY and have had little, if no, knee/heel pain, so maybe... Problem solved? 20. I agree: Premier Protein shakes give more grams of protein per shake than any other brand. 30. Flavors: chocolate, vanilla, strawberries and cream, and my new favorite : bananas and cream. Cases were on sale at Sam's these last several weeks. Vitamins; I use Optisource Bariatric Chewables, 4/day, 2 in am, 2 in pm. One bottle of 120 lasts a month. Have it set up thru Amazon to automatically send me a bottle once a month. $18.18 each. I don't need any supplements at all with this brand. They are complete. 21. Protein shakes bind you up bad! I add three heaping Tablespoons of colorless, tasteless Benefiber. Or you can add to coffee, etc. This helps me, but if I go 2 days without a movement, I take a stool softener that night. Back to normal next day. Others farther along than me have said that once they could have fresh veggies again, they didn't need any of these treatments. However., everyone is different. How did you sleep?

I slept in a recliner the first night home from the hospital, only because my abdomen was so distended with gas. After that, I slept in our bed, on my side, with a smaller pillow supporting my abdomen. No issues with getting in or out. I did have trouble getting back to sleep after getting up to pee, but then my dad died 5 days post-op, so I think that had a lot to do with it. Doing better now, 3 1/2 weeks out. Pill crushing ?

I was told by my surgeon at my 10 day post-op visit to crush for another month, unless they were smaller than a tictac. I find that by adding a packet of Splenda (or more, if you want) to one little packaged cup of applesauce, it counteracts the bitterness of my crushed meds.
