    No more shakes!

I buy the flavored. Plain is good when you puree fresh blueberries and mix it in.

    No more shakes!

I'm glad I like protein shakes. Two Pure Protein (35g each) and one Dannon Oikos Triple zero yogurt (15g) takes care of the majority of my protein. I don't have to add any powder to anything (thankfully because I hate it!)
  3. I was scheduled for RNY. When I woke from surgery I was told I was given the sleeve due to twisted intestines. I will have to work harder to lose the weight. It will also take longer to lose. However I have had no issues with the sleeve. It's definitely better than nothing!

    November RNY Surgery Buddies 2016

Wow....you had it good (as far as pain level)...not sure how I'd feel in your position...def wld want the sleeve if no other option...but waking up being told you didn't get RNY?? but it's better than them telling you, you can't have surgery whatsoever...right I've been in & out of hospital/ER every since my surgery! Lots of labs & IVs....potassium infusions etc....been siiiiiick & not able to eat or drink for days...two weeks out & 20+ lbs down... not the healthiest way to lose it..but today I started taking Carafate (spelling?) & meds to curb my sickness & man has it done wonders! I can finally eat & drink (found some YUMMY tortilla broth @ Woodman's) & im HOOKED! I dilute it w/ Water to get my liquids in (cuz nurse said count broth as a liquid now) & it don't mess w/ my pouch (aka Hermione)...so I'm happy I can start getting liquids in!!! Yaaay! Sent from my iPhone BariactricGirl4Life That does not sound good. Yes I'm okay with the sleeve. It's better than nothing. I won't lose weight as fast but I have had no issues with food or drinking anything. I am sure it will be good I'll just have to work harder to lose the extra weight.
  5. https://www.donatelife.net/ Your Skin Saves Lives If you decide to move forward with surgery, consider donating your excess skin. Your skin could help up to 50 or more burn victims. I know I am opting for plastic surgery after I reached my goal weight and have been stable for a few months. I'm glad I found this site because I will now donate any excess skin. Recycle yourself. Save a life. P.S. It's Donor not Doner. You don't want to be a kebab. Haha!
  6. Thanks for that. I found it on here so I expected they had done the research: http://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/
  7. As soon as I can I'll be in the pool every day. I told my NUT that I'll be doing laps telling myself "I don't want flabby arms"! However, I also told myself when I decided to do this surgery that I was going all the way. Meaning nips, tucks, lifts whatever it takes at the end to get rid of any excess. I don't care how little excess skin I have it's going. Keeping it would disgust me more than being fat. So I'm opening a savings account to put money in every month that normally would go to an amazing holiday (I went to Australia & New Zealand right before surgery and spent over $5,000). So nothing more than 4 day weekend trips for me until I am where I want to be - health & body wise.
  8. I'm in. I love a challenge! 1/1/17 is also the day I start on regular food.

    My Fingernails are Growing

My nails have been growing as well. I hope they thicken up because they used to always break and so I would try to keep them short. (Also I'm an accountant so using a calculator with nails is a pain). However I'd be happy to take that pain for pretty nails.

    Baby Spoons

I got the baby spoons & forks. But I find I take in a lot of air when eating soup with the spoon so I've started just drinking from the bowl.
  11. Overnight. As long as you can keep your liquids down you'll be released.
  12. Giggling..... one of the reasons I started telling also. I didn't want people thinking I was a meth or drug addict. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App I didn't want them to think I had cancer
  13. I got this: Hey I saw the post about surgery - also look into Biotin for hair loss - it is a side effect that happens a lot - so look into it - hair is real important - Find some people who have had it done and ask them what they wish they knew before. I lost my best friend over this surgery - not dead but personality changed and only cared about all the adoration she was getting with her weight loss - so be careful... After I replied I got this: I don't want to lose another friend - I don't think you will change - really - I hope it goes well for you - it's not easy as people think - Whereas I said I knew it wouldn't be easy. To which my friend replied: Shit you'll look PHENOM by the concerts! And you ALWAYS have looked phenom anyway! I thought it was funny that she thought I'd toss away my friends once I lost weight. (And we've been friends for 30+ years) However if I start getting attitude from people I may cut the cord. However so far everyone is so positive.

    Homemade protein shake recipes?

I love anything tart over sweet so I want to make this: https://dashingdish.com/recipe/key-lime-pie-protein-shake/ I'd leave out the Stevia so it's more tart.
  16. I got excited when I was told I'd have to eat protein first. I prefer savory to sweet. Stick a steak in front of me and a slice of chocolate cake and I'll take the steak every time. I occasionally want something sweet so right now getting protein in is hard since I'm only 4 days post surgery and drinking protein shakes all the time is making me want something savory. I'm going to start making my own with Fage 2%, fruit, skim milk and protein powder. Hopefully it will be a lot less sweet but I'm counting the days to pureed food. Gimme eggs!
  17. I went in for RNY on 11/23/16 and came out with the sleeve due to twisted intestines. So now (after researching everything for RNY after deciding to go that route) I am now catching up with sleeve research. I don't regret the surgery. Even though my pain is coming from the upper right incision and that hasn't dulled much it's not bad enough to take pain meds all the time. I generally only take one at night before I go to sleep. I don't crave food or want to eat anything (yet) and I watch a lot of cooking shows. What I did before surgery was had a 'last meal' at the fast food places I usually went to. McDonald's, Taco Bell, pizza and for the most part as I was eating my last meal I realized "this is crap". It didn't taste great and I was just eating it because it was easy to go through a drive through rather than cooking etc. But for the things I truly loved (like tacos) I created versions I could have without guilt when I'm back on solid food. (Using mini peppers as taco shells so I get the crunch - I have a texture issue so I hate things that are all one texture) - using 90% beef or ground turkey/chicken. It's all in the spices. For pizza I will use a cauliflower base, grilled chicken etc. Today I started full liquids and managed to drink 11oz Protein shake (20g protein) for Breakfast with no problems. I'm about to get dressed and take a walk around the block. It's baby steps. Think ahead so you have something to look forward to. I have lost 8 lbs in 3 days. That makes me smile.
  18. I told my family first. I waited until I had gone through all the steps and had a surgery date before telling a couple people at work. I have had 3 other surgeries in less than a year (both feet and a new knee) so another surgery with the possibility of being out of work 6 weeks (right after I took a 3 week vacation) was a big deal. I kept it quiet at work although my department knew I was having another surgery until about a week before. I made the 'announcement' in a departmental meeting. I didn't want people to see me losing weight quickly, possibly losing my hair and thinking the worse. I've gotten nothing but positive feedback.
  19. Not being looked down upon because I'm fat. Walking into a room and turning heads. I too love horses and so want to horseback ride again. I just took a trip to Australia & New Zealand and one of my bucket list items was an ice climb on Franz Josef Glacier in New Zealand. Unfortunately I was told I weighed too much and couldn't do it. I ended up just taking a helicopter ride up to the glacier with 10 minutes on the ice. Not what I wanted but I had to settle. I don't want to have to settle anymore. Riding all the rides at an amusement park. I want to learn to scuba dive. I want to see an empty closet (and I have a LOT of clothes). Being able to walk into any store to buy clothes and hopefully buying boots with a regular calf size. Traveling without being squished into the seat and the person looking at me in disgust. There's so many more things I look forward to.

    November RNY Surgery Buddies 2016

How are you feeling? I'm miserable currently... hoping as the days go by I'll be much better... do your breathing thing... I have Fluid in my lungs because I haven't been doing it right Sent from my iPhone BariactricGirl4Life I'm doing okay. I went in for RNY and had to the sleeve because my intestines are twisted. I'm being discharged today since I'm doing okay walking and drinking Water. Can't bend over to get my shoes on so will need to ask a nurse for help. Just waiting for my sister to come get me. So how do you feel about being sleeved instead of RNY?? I'll tell you what...I NEVER thought my pain level wld be this BAD!! Thank goodness my fiancé took this week off or idk what I'd do!! He helps me around & even to bathroom etc... they found my stomach was all twisted up in my chest so Surgery took 5hrs instead of normal 1 1/2hrs....idk if that's the reason I'm in soooo much pain? But the fluid I my lungs isn't helping!!! Can't explain enough to do your breathing exercises!!! Hope you feel better soon...prayers Sent from my iPhone BariactricGirl4Life They had to call my sister when I was on the table to ask about switching to the sleeve. My sister knew I wanted the surgery so she told them yes. It's okay. I really couldn't decide between the two. I don't have any gas pain. The only pain I have is from the one incision on my right side. I have a raging headache though so I'm going to get liquid Tylenol. I doubt I'm drinking enough liquids and need to do better. All I've had since I've been home is water and diluted juice. Sent from my LG-H830 using the BariatricPal App

My surgery is scheduled for 8:30am tomorrow morning. 11/23. Let's do this! Sent from my LG-H830 using the BariatricPal App
  23. I have been heavy my whole adult life. I have dieted and gained as you do but nothing stuck. Thanks to back to back surgeries (bunions/hammertoes - both feet and a new knee) in less than a year my mobility has been stagnant due to pain because of my weight. I decided it was time. I had told myself I wasn't going to do this unless I promised myself I would follow through to the end (plastic surgery upon completion). I asked my PCP to refer me for bariatric surgery. I had thought about it off and on for a very long time but was never a candidate. Oh I had the BMI covered but no co-morbidities. Lately I have added high blood pressure and severe obstructive sleep apnea. So my journey started. I had to go to a seminar before I could make an appointment. After that I met with my surgeon, the nurse & nutritionist. I had homework, lots of tests (My doctor sent me for a CT scan on my heart since I had taken FenFen which showed I had a moderately enlarged ascending aorta - which led to a MRI w/contrast before I could be cleared for surgery), psychiatrist and had to lose between 15 - 30 lbs. I was given a tentative surgery date of Nov. 23rd. I went for my final appointment. I had done all my homework, lost 22 lbs., and decided on Roux-en-y over the Sleeve. (I had the option of either one). I have Blue Shield *** and the approval came through the first time. So I was given my pre-op drink & body wash and I'm set for Nov. 23rd. I had seen the Vitamin Patches and my nurse raved about them so I've already ordered the 3 I need to use every month. I have unjury unflavored Protein powder and Isopure Zero Carb Creamy vanilla. I have a shopping list for next weekend to pick up what else I would need. I'm ready for this. It's time.
  24. You can find them on here which is where I saw them and asked my nurse about it. They are from PatchMD and my nurse raved about it. (She was even wearing one at the time). They love them because you get all the vitamins you need and completely bypass the stomach. (<-- pun intended - haha). I was told to get the MultiVitamin Plus Patch, B12 Energy Plus Patch & the Anti-Aging Topical Patch. Through PatchMD I got a discount for autoship of 40% off (good through 12/31/16 on new orders) so what would normally cost me $60 a month costs me $36. You can get 30% off a single order with code patchit30 or 40% off autoship using code patchauto.
