    PCOS

Hi! I have PCOS and got the full bypass in July 2016 and hit my gw by July 2016 (318 lbs to 160!). In November 2017, my husband and I started trying and... nothing happened. I finally saw my ob/gyn in the summer of 2018 and she referred me to a reproductive endocrinologist, due to the PCOS. She did a few labs and an ultrasound, decided I was an open and shut case of classic PCOS and prescribed me 10 days of estrogen to give me a period, and 5 days of a medicine called Letrozole to take in the middle of my period to trigger ovulation. I did one course of this medicine and in mid-November I found out we were pregnant! I was also losing hope, being that I’m 34, and after 18 negative pregnancy tests, it was looking gloomy. But number 19 was the lucky one. I would highly recommend seeing a reproductive endocrinologist. They know more about PCOS than the ob/gyn or family doctor. Good luck! Don’t give up! :)

    Calcium

I just use Citracal Petites x6 a day. I like the chews from BariatricPal Advantage, but they citracal is available at the grocery store and much cheaper. Check with your doc though, I had to wait I think 3 months before I could start using those because they're still pretty big. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Out of breath!

It can be a symptom of blood clots in your lungs. This close to surgery, I'd say it's better to be safe than sorry. I called my doctors office almost every day with some new symptom, which all turned out to be nothing. I sounded like a crazy person, but I didn't care. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Constant sick feeling

Thank you all so much for your replies. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one! Hydration could be it. I have a hard time getting all my fluids in. Again, the nausea. So it's a bit of a catch-22. I will mention it at my next appointment though if it continues. I appreciate all the advice! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. Hello all. I'm hoping that I can get some advice or at least confirmation that I'm not the only one having this issue. I had my RNY 7/21/16, so I'm about 8 weeks out. Im back on normal foods, theoretically, but the issue I've been having the last couple of weeks is that pretty much everything I eat makes me nauseous. I've tried everything. Grilled chicken, ground beef, chili, turkey, cheese, tuna, Beans. Nothing seems to sit well, and I'm at a point where I don't even want to eat because it's not worth being nauseous for the next hour. Even thinking about food just makes my stomach (or what's left of it) turn. The only things I seem to be able to tolerate are my Protein shakes and yogurt. And even those are iffy sometimes. Even though it's hard to believe I'm even thinking this, I'm just so tired of feeling like this that I don't even want to bother with food anymore. Is this normal? My NUT said it takes about 3 months for everything to settle down, but this constant sick feeling is driving me nuts. I did not/have not had any post op complications. Any advice on what I could eat or what I should do? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Hospital Weight Gain

I stepped on the scale when I got home, so excited to see how much I'd lost in the hospital annnnnd bubble popped! I "weighed" more than I did pre-surgery! Heck, even at my one week post op appointment, I was right back at my weight when I went in. But very, very shortly thereafter, the number started dropping rapidly. Phew! I'm 6 weeks out today and down almost 30 pounds from my surgery weight. So don't panic! It's all the fluids, plus your body underwent a lot of trauma. It'll start coming off. It has slowed down quite a bit from the original rate, but slow and steady wins the race. Keep your head up and good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    New with question

I'm almost five weeks out now and I'm feeling pretty much back to normal. I've been back to the gym for the past week, doing light cardio, nothing crazy. But overall I feel so much better than I did before my surgery. Especially having lost so much already, down more than 30 pounds since I started my pre-op diet and 50 pounds overall. It varies so much from person to person, but my surgeon said I should be free of all restrictions at six weeks. Like djmorh said though, don't forget to eat and drink! It's so easy now to not even think about food, that if I wasn't making meals for my husband, I'd probably forget to eat. It's a pleasant change. Good luck to you! This is the first step in a life changing journey. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Nicotine Testing

Hi Amber, I just had my RNY at University Hospitals on July 21st. My pre-op testing consisted of lots of blood tests, a urine sample, an EKG (if you didn't get one from a cardiologist, which I did as part of my pre-op requirements). I'm not sure what they tested me for, I imagine nicotine, but not sure. Didn't ask. They didn't specify because I'm a former smoker who quit years ago. I don't know if they'd specifically talk about it if you're a current smoker. It's best to avoid it from here on out though, as it does hinder healing quite a bit. Also, it was explained to me, at least for bypass patients, that because of the risk of ulcers, if you get one in your remnant stomach, they can't get to it to fix it with an endoscopy like they normally would, so it can quickly turn into something life threatening requiring major surgery. I hope this helps. Good luck with your surgery! You're in good hands at UHHS. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Trouble passing gas?

Hello! I am about two and a half weeks post op today and I had the same problem. I tried Gas X, but that seemed to make it worse. The best advice is just to move around as much as you can. 3 days post op is still very fresh in my mind and I felt like absolute death, but the more I moved around, the easier it got. I think a lot of it has to do with all the pressure in your abdomen, plus they do a lot of snipping and rearranging. It was about a week before I started to feel like a normal human being again. Also you could try sitting on the toilet. That seems to kind of help things a bit. Hang in there, it will get better. I hope you start feeling better soon!
