    Did you find love again?

A lot of people in relationships end up single because the relationship cannot withstand the vast amount of change people in our situations are going through. Relationships sometimes involve a lot of food we can't eat -- dinner dates that just won't fly anymore. You have to spend a lot of time getting active and that might cut into tv time with your significant other. You're also going to feel a lot better about yourself, more aware of your value as a person, and you're going to take less shit. The dynamics change and sometimes people end up divorced. In your case I think you'll be rid of someone who wasn't that great for you.

Where is your fat hanging on tight?

I don't think my thighs will ever go anywhere. I've got a lot further to go, but I imagine after years of carrying around my body weight I will always have big legs.

    Stressed about a dress! Help!

Most dresses can be taken in up to two size without losing shape.

    Throw out the Scale

Weighing myself every day or every other day has so far kept me accountable. I see more overall movement on the numbers the more actively I focus on them. BUT I am very glad you are aware of what works for you and that you're happy. You look amazing.

    Stressed about a dress! Help!

My friend is getting married in March. Most of the bridesmaids got measured in October. The bridal shop advised me the latest possible date was December. I was sleeved in September. In October I was a size 20. In December I measured a size 16. I ordered one size down and was told if necessary it could be taken in an additional two sizes. This month I should be getting my size 14. Part of me is worried I'll have to be greased into a size 14 and the rest is worried I'll be swimming in it by March. There's no real easy answer for dress shopping. Go to the shop, discuss your options with them because they will be able to give you a far better timeline for ordering and an idea on resizing If you're worried about dropping more weight for the big day perhaps you could begin going to the gym more frequently, assuming you're not there every day to begin with.

    125 days after Sleeve

Coincidentally I found this topic on my 125 day post surgery. I was 310, currently 228. Down 82 pounds. You look amazing congratulations.

    Anyone eat cereal?

"You might want to check on here. Bariatric Pal, Diet Direct, they sell cereal. I have the Honey Nut Os and love them. Pre sleeve I'd eat, each little bag is like 15 g Protein and around 9 carbs. If you really want cereal it's worth it. I don't normally eat it, not cuz I don't want to but know the dangers of a box ...all carbs and sugar." I agree with the above advice completely. First, I think you should ignore cravings for carbs. Studies have shown the less of the processed bread products you eat the less you want them. Try to give into them as rarely as possible and the cravings will occur less and less frequently. If you absolutely MUST have cereal then a low carb, high protein version is best even if expensive. In fact all the better that way you don't buy a bunch and build it into your diet. Buy one at a time and use them as sparingly as possible. Using all 39 of your 40 carbs in one moment is not a good idea.

Advancing your diet- on your own

This is the time of greatest restriction. Eating against your plan will at worst hurt, injure or otherwise damage you. Best case scenario you stretch out your stomach earlier than necessary by eating against plan thereby reducing the effectiveness of the surgery. You're going to be hard pressed to find someone who thinks it's a good idea.

    Sleeve vs bypass

I was 310 at 5'6. BMI 50. I'm now 228 at four months post-operative. They chose sleeve for me because I'm 31 and childbearing age, meaning I might want to have a child in the next two or three years and they don't want malsorbtion to be an issue with Vitamins etc. In retrospect I would have preferred bypass. It has better longer term results and I'm willing to get excessive blood work during a pregnancy should I chose to have one some day. Push for the surgery you think is right for you. If the surgeon won't do it -- find another. It's your life and you have to live in the body you create. I wish I'd pushed for bypass, but I'm making the most of the cards I've been dealt.

    Weight Gain/C25k Meltdown

I wasn't going to respond because I agree with the person who said maintainers only should be offering advice. No, advice, just encouragement. Don't let this ruin your vacation. The cruise will offer a lot of opportunities to have fun while being active. You're going to have a blast and focus again when you get home.

    Low sugar drinks

http://www.truelemon.com/product/true-black-cherry-limeade/ It's all natural flavor packets my nutritionalist recommended to help me increase Water in take. They sell them in ShopRite and Target etc etc. Amazon. It's sweetened with beet juice and stevia leaf, which again are natural and do not leave an artificial aftertaste. My coworkers are crazy for the watermelon flavor. Even our resident stick in the mud loves it.
  14. I had my surgery on Friday, 09/16 at Robert Wood Johnson. They released me five hours later. My surgery was at eight AM and I was out the door at three. They did not put any dressing on my stitches and seemed reluctant to give me a second copy of my discharge paperwork. I never saw the surgeon after the surgery. I only saw his PA briefly beforehand. Fever set in on Saturday along with terrible nausea and stomach spasms. We left five messages with the service over several hours before I left a hysterical one saying I was going back to the hospital. I got a call back saying anti-spasm medication would be called in for me. It was. Another two hours later. I know part of my vicious nausea was a reaction to anesthesia, but I'm so horrified about the fast discharge and lack of communication with either the doctor or the hospital I think I need to find another doctor to follow up with from here on out. My friend is having the surgery with the same physician's office in a month and I want to tell her no. Do not do it. Find someone else. For what it's worth I tried to be an ideal patient. I lost 26 pounds between my mid July meeting with the surgeon and my mid-September surgery date. What should I tell my friend? She's nervous and may not have it done if I'm too vehemently against it. She referred to me as her guinea pig. I don't want to deny her the life altering positive side effects but I can't even articulate how little I want to go back to the physician

    Don't get it

I went back to work 12 days post op. I got dehydrated and overwhelmed. I struggled through work the next two days and then had the weekend to recover again. On day 18 I went back again and felt much more myself. I started the gym and I can't do as much as I like while working because I'm so tired some nights, but mostly I get through the days ok

    Having Trouble Being Positive

So I thought I'd update this. I had my one week follow up with the physician's assistant. The surgeon was in the hallway and didn't even say hi but I was over him by that point. They didn't take my vitals -- blood pressure, temperature, etc. The PA only looked at my incisions when I prompted because I'd developed a rash. She said it was due to my presurgical scrub but it came three days after and persisted all through the next week or so and then vanished. Again, not incredibly impressed but whatever. I had my one month (from my one week post up appointment) follow up and I've lost more than is average for the surgery in that from. She said the range was 7-10 and I hit 11 which was good. This time she examined the incisions without prompting and cleared me for the gym without restriction. Next time I'm getting blood work before to check on things. I've met with one nutritionalist before the surgery for clearance. She put a tremendous emphasis on the things I'd done wrong in the past and how much my anti-depressants influenced my weight. (I've been off them maybe 10 months now.) So I switched to a new nutritionalist because I didn't think the other one was particularly productive but in retrospect maybe she was focused on giving me tools that would serve without the surgery even though I was there more or less to check off my clearance and get advise for eating pre and post op. The new nutritionalist was more useful. She focused on what I felt and how I was feeling and gave me a long term plan instead of just where I was at that point in the surgery. She thoughtfully considered my work schedule and my dietery preferences (at the meeting I was over sweet anything. Too long on the shakes pre and post op). I'll be seeing her again in December. My friend had her surgery. When she went for pretesting had it noted in her chart she did not want to be discharged the same day no matter what. They kept her the full day and offered to keep her a second. She also requested anti-nausea/anti-spasam medication before discharge and had them fill the script for her. She had a much better time of the first week than I did and I'm very happy my experiences gave her a smoother path.

    Noisy co workers

I work in the medical field and I work very closely with the other people in my office. While I was arranging my appointments for clearance I tried to keep it to myself, but again when you work 50 hours a week some of the calls you make have to be from work. Once I had my dates arranged I let them know. For the curious I pulled up a video of my surgery (again, medical field that was mostly all of them). I brought in extra protein shakes when I was on liquid because some of them skipped lunch and did what I did for support (or to low key lose a few pounds). They were supportive when I left and they've been good since I've been back. If I'm winded they're helping with my patients.

    Dehydration

Try sugar free ice pops. It's slow going but you'll get more liquids in you as you heal.

Someone actually asking if you really had the surgery like you're telling them you hunted a unicorn. Tell them to frick off.

    Feel like a Junkie

What brands do you guys like? I have to order some and maybe I'll just hit amazon up.
  23. TinyLittleFractures

    Juicing ?

Juicing is a ton of sugar. It gives you a big sugar rush because there's no fiber to slow down the absorption rate. If you want to stay on protein shakes a little longer before going to real food contact your surgeon and make sure he has no issues with it.

    First Appointment

So I work in the medical community and I have an appointment with a bariatric surgeon on 07/21. In preparation for this I had consultations with a pulmonologist and a cardiologist. I have appointments already scheduled for after the appointment with a nutritionist, psychologist, and gastroenterologist. I have my stress echo scheduled (07/28) and my sleep apnea appointment tonight. I've read several books and done a bit of research to prepare. Is there anything else I should do in preparation? I work strange hours and cannot always say I'll be out by time X, Y, or Z but I have a flexible schedule for the next four weeks hence wanting to schedule my specialists and testing as much as possible.
