    Diarrhea after first full liquid?

Diarrhea is, from what I understand, normal after surgery. Remember we all did that bowel prep, so the last movement we had was pretty liquid. Then we had our guts messed with and filled them with nothing but liquids. I started full liquids my 2nd or 3rd day after surgery. I still didn't poop for a week, and when I finally did it was diarrhea. Also, you asked about dumping. One benefit of the sleeve as opposed to Roux-en-Y is that we don't have to worry about dumping. Dumping occurs because there is no sphincter restricting the movement of food from the stomach pouch into the intestines for Roux-en-Y-ers. We retain our sphincter! Dumping has been described to me as cold sweats, shakiness, and nausea. It occurs when the stomach contents "dump" into the intestines.

    Multivitamins

No gummies allowed on my plan. They recommend Flintstones Complete, which I had as a kid until basically high school. I love them. I am on liquids only right now (1 week post-op), and chewing my Vitamin is the highlight of my night. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Had surgery 7/6/16

I was also sleeved the 6th! I spent 2 nights in the hospital. In the mornings I take my omeprazole with "breakfast" (8 oz Fairlife chocolate milk) and do my Lovenox injection. Then I have 8 oz Water followed by "lunch" (Syntrax nectar fruit Protein packet mixed in 12 oz water with ice cubes). After that I have more water or tea. "Dinner" is Unjury's chicken broth Protein powder mixed into a strained Soup. After dinner I'll have more water and/or tea. I'm on full liquids, but everything has to be thin enough to go through a juice pulp strainer my clinic gave me. I can't wait to be able to have thicker soups! I love thick Soups. It's a little boring, but it gets me over 50 oz of protein and over 64 oz of water each day. For gas I've been using a Gas-X strip. I hope I'm less gassy now that I've finally had my first bm today. Walking helps with the pain, as does a belly binder. When I need to sneeze, I hold a pillow against my left (more painful) side. I've been taking liquid Benadryl and liquid Allegra at bedtime to help with my allergies and sneezing, too. It's helped a treat! Best luck to my surgery twins and neighbors!
  4. I was sleeved exactly a week ago, July 6. My husband was going to my clinic to get more Protein juice for me, and I asked him to ask them if I could use Smooth Move tea as I had not yet pooped. Before he got to the clinic I finally had my first bm! It was small, soft, and not *super* solid, but it was there and real and I was happy. In short, it took me 7 days. I was gassy, but I did not have constipation pains. I just didn't feel like I needed to go.
  5. Hooray! I am going to cry when I find Onederland. Today I weighed myself just for fun (I'm one week post-op) and was 255... I haven't been able to break below 260 in years. I was 265 surgery day. I'm so happy I did this, and I can't wait to join you at the Mad Hatter's tea and Protein cake party! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. That's the day after my birthday! I was sleeved the 6th, and my husband offered to stay the night with me both nights I was in the hospital. I had a great recovery, though, and declined. I wanted him to get a good night's sleep so he could take care of me, but he ended up sleeping about as poorly as I did the first night. They came in to check my vitals or give me another IV or refill my pain pump so frequently I barely slept. I was also really uncomfortable in the bed. My back was hurting and I couldn't shift my hips around due to the pain, and I couldn't really move my legs due to the air socks I had to sleep in. I slept better the second night, but I would have just made my husband more miserable if he had stayed with me. There wasn't anything he could have done to help, and I would have just been whiny. Can you post a link to the stomach brace/stomach binders you are talking about. Thanks. https://www.amazon.com/Medline-4-Panel-Abdominal-Binder-2X-Large/dp/B009GPZD5W I got this one, it gets good reviews, and feels sturdy yet comfortable when I tried It on. I just know that with my luck, I'll have to cough or sneeze like crazy after surgery, and I will need something to help it not hurt so bad. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App The hospital provided me with a binder. I wore it the whole time I was in the hospital because it was holding my drain in place and it helped with the soreness. Once I came home, I wore it most of the first day (3rd day post-op), slept in it, wore it off and on the second day, slept in it, and haven't worn it since. I made a support band like expectant mothers and post-partum mothers wear out of an old tank top like this: http://diymaternity.com/pants-skirts/how-to-make-a-no-sew-belly-band/ I wear it folded down to support my jiggle while leaving my wounds mostly uncovered.
  7. I can't stand Protein shakes. Premier is the best, but I still hate them. I'm 5 days post-op now and I haven't had one, yet I've met all my Fluid and protein goals. I'm drinking Fairlife milk instead! They come in chocolate, skim, 2%, and whole. An 8 oz serving of chocolate milk has 14 g of protein in 140 calories. It's just milk that's been super filtered, leaving it higher in protein. It's also lactose free! Sick of creamy stuff? I'm also drinking nectar protein juices. The aftertaste is a little slimy (like a protein shake), but they come in flavors like pink grapefruit, lemon tea, fuzzy navel, and grape. I usually have one for lunch. You can make a packet in 8-16 oz of Water (I have been doing 12 oz), and it's 20 g of protein for a reasonable amount of calories. Tired of sweet stuff? unjury makes a chicken broth Protein Powder. Mix in water 140 F or lower and enjoy 20 g of protein in 8 oz of chicken broth. Flavor to taste! Migraines suck. I get them with aura. Despite being on reduced calories and only having liquids, though, I haven't had one after surgery yet and I am having a period, which was frequently a trigger for me. Best of luck to you, and I hope my info helped!
  8. I came home Friday night, tested out different positions, and went to bed. Saturday I woke up around 8 really sore and uncomfortable from sleeping. I took my pain meds, gave myself a blood thinner shot, and took my omeprazole. I started sipping fluids--a sip every 3 minutes, I watched the clock--and took it an hour at a time. I took a shower with my back to the shower head, washed my hair, and got most of the orange off me. On the hour, I'd get up and walk around my apartment a couple times and use my incentive spirometer. I managed to take in 64 oz of fluids that day! At night I chewed my Flintstones vitamin and figured out how to sleep on my side (I supported my back with another pillow), which led to me sleeping for nearly 12 hours. Each day is going a little better!
  9. I had my surgery July 6th! You'll be great, guys. The bowel prep wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated. The stuff wasn't exactly gross, but it was very strong. I had it through a thick straw over ice and took 30 minutes to drink 15 oz of it. I was able to play video games between toilet visits. The next morning I woke up, brushed my teeth carefully (so I didn't swallow any), and wore an optimistic t-shirt to the hospital. They took me back at 11:11, and I had to wait until after 3 to roll out to surgery. This is when I was the most scared. But then they gave me "margarita mix" happy drugs to help me relax, then the anesthesia hit and I woke up in recovery in under 2 hours. I slept a lot right after, but they had me get up and walk twice that evening. I spent 2 nights in the hospital, walking every hour and sipping fluids after I passed an upper GI to make sure I had no leaks. I wish you all the best! Note: I gained about 5 pounds from all the fluids they pumped into me. Don't weigh yourself when you get home unless you can handle seeing a gain. It's just because you're super hydrated! P.S. Yes, I posted this in both July threads.

    7/10/16

I'm sorry I can't get the image to stay properly rotated. My drain is the top covered site, and my "belly removal" is the bottom covered site. I will be removing this bandage tomorrow night.
  12. Yes, this! Me too! I researched and found the same as tonilouise87. I'm trying to rest my abs now and getting help standing. It's better with a support band, too. I'm 4 days post, by the way. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Birth control after gastric bypass...

I have Nexplanon. I had it placed October 2014, and I had surgery with it implanted. I love it! I'm having a period from the shock of surgery, but not enough that I even need a pad. I'm planning on getting a new one placed when this one comes out in 2017, unless my husband and I change our minds and decide to try for a child. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Liquid tylenol

The hospital gave me some. It's also available on Amazon! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  15. Try Gas-X strips. They dissolve on your tongue, so they are okay during the liquid stage. A side effect of Prilosec is gas. I'm getting enough fluids but am still gassy in the guts--some farts, mostly burping or just rumbling though. I think it's just part of the healing process.

    So emotional!

Hi sleeve twin! I also had my surgery Wednesday July 6. And I desperately want French fries. My husband is super supportive though and has been cooking and eating in the kitchen because he feels bad for my cravings. Fortunately I'm on full liquids now, and can have Fairlife milk and Protein drinks. Flavorful Soup broths like ramen without the noodles should count as clear liquid and I found they helped me through my clear liquids beforehand. Try to have something super flavorful, and I'd talk to your husband about being supportive. Ask him to eat at the restaurant if he wants fast food, or see if he'll do a juice cleanse or something while you're on liquids. I wish you the best! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
