How to Make the Most Out of Buffets

Gina...they have a salad bar with all kinds of stuff on it that you can pick at. Or order just a starter...some chicken wings and nibble on them. I take it you're feeling much better now if you're eating solids and are up to going out. That's great progress!! Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  2. I'm in the UK too and don't do the Protein drinks, gatorade etc. I'm 5 months post op. I still eat 6 small meals a day and have done from the start. I used to freeze my portions in ice cube trays and have 2 per meal. Try things like philadelphia light portions for Snacks and petit filous yoghurts. With your postural hypotension you need a little more salt in your diet. Try to increase your fluids with cup a Soups with a little salt in. Don't be afraid of eating from all food groups. My dietician tells me not to count calories, protein, carbs etc but to eat from all food groups. I'm 5 stone down and had no problems. Good luck ! Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  3. Is it possible to be done with a single incision? That would be open surgery rather than laparoscopic. With laparoscopic surgery you normally need multiple incisions for instruments. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  4. Hi. I'm new to the forum although I have been reading for weeks with interest. I'm 20 weeks post op and down 70lbs. Everything has been great. Except for constipation. I finally found the answer last week. My dietician (I'm in the UK) advised me to add flaxseed to my Breakfast or drinks. I've been having a teaspoon every day since Thursday and I've been easily every day since. It's more natural than taking tablets and works a treat. Just thought I'd share Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    What was your protein goal?

Never given one. In the UK they don't focus on Protein only. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  6. I use ground flaxseed every day on my Breakfast Cereal. I now go regularly every day without a problem. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    How restricted is your sleeve?

I'm 5 months out. I can only eat half a burger (no bun or salad), or 1 boiled egg, equivalent to less than half a cup of food. I'm quite restricted. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  9. Have a look at the following link. I had post op instructions from my team but I found this very helpful: https://www.stgeorges.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/St-George%E2%80%99s-Hospital-Sleeve-Gastrectomy-and-Gastric-Bypass-booklet2.pdf Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App Atm I try and stick to 800-900 a day Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  10. I'm in the UK too. Manchester. Things are different here. My dietician and surgeon don't like Protein shakes. They also tell me not to count calories/ fat/ carbs. They say to eat from all food groups. I have lost 5 stones in 5 months. I eat anything I want. But extremely small portions. Just don't worry. Experiment. I do count calories because I think it's important for me to keep a track on things. At puree stage I made bolognese sauce and pureed that then I froze it into ice cube trays. I had 2 cubes per meal. 1 rusk for Breakfast. Maybe something like potato hash pureed for dinner. With petit filous fromage frais and philadelphia light as Snacks. 11. You definitely need to eat more. I'm 5 months post op and I gained 3 weeks ago. I immediately increased my calories from 600-700 a day to 800-900 a day. I lost the 2lb I gained plus 2 more the next week. You need to drink 2 litres a day. Don't be down. You're doing great. Each food stage change makes our bodies react. You'll stabilise when you're on solids. Are you in the UK? Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    The truth about ibuprofen...

I have OA. I had the sleeve and my surgeon and bariatric team has said it is absolutely fine to take NSAIDs if needed. Although the stomach is smaller it is still a normal stomach. Just make surr they are taken on a full stomach as you normally would. Luckily I haven't needed any as the weight loss has helped my joints. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    Dreading the Nausea!

I was really bad and had 3 days hospital on 4 different IV anti emetics. I'm always bad with anaesthetic. BUT....as soon as I got home it was gone and it didn't ruin things for me in any way. You soon forget about it. Like giving birth! Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  14. I had IBS preop but no problems post op. I have had severe constipation but now I add one spoon of flaxseed to my Breakfast or smoothie and go normally every day. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  15. Well Gina. This must be your hospital only that has this level of care. Which hospital is it? You don't have to go back for your cholecystectomy. You can choose where you have it done. That's patient choice. I suggest you contact their PALS service who can act on your behalf. Why on earth did you consent to surgery without all the information? The risks of surgery are normally written on your consent form. If they aren't then you need to ask why. Gallbladder problems post op are common and when I researched before I had surgery this came up as a common side effect. I was also told by my surgeon of many of the complications you have had. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  16. I think that's unfair Gina about the NHS. It's a very small percentage that have complications. And you're warned about them preop before you consent for surgery. I know many people who have had WLS on the NHS without complications. I think many of your problems come from your existing medical problems. Look at what you're consuming. Change what you're drinking to high calorie drinks such as complan, try making smoothies with Protein powder/ spinach/ coconut milk/ yoghurt to increase your protein intake. I know own you've had a rough time but we have to keep in mind that these complications are rare. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    Crackers

I have 2 crackers for supper every night with butter and cream cheese. I'm 20 weeks post op. Lost 70lb. I also eat potatoes, Pasta, fried rice etc. But all in very small amounts. My dietician tells me there are no food restrictions as long as my stomach can tolerate them. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  20. I have a banana every day. And an apple. And frozen berries in my smoothie. Dont count carbs. Or fats. Or Protein. Just eat healthily from all food groups. Hasn't slowed my weight loss down. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    My work here is done

Glad your GP listened to you. If there is anything urgent with your bloods they will ring you tomorrow if not tonight. Just keep sipping fluids. Can anyone get you some dioralyte? It will replace your minerals etc whilst your not consuming much. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    My work here is done

Ok. Let us know how you get on. I think A&E is your best option. That will you will be seen by the on call surgical team and not your bariatric surgeon. They may get you sorted quicker and get you scanned. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  25. I can't see any issues that would be caused by the sleeve as long as regular bloods are checked to ensure there are no vitamin/ mineral deficiencies. The band is different...there's a foreign body inside the patient so that causes a potential problem. Once the stomach is removed and the incision line is healed, I can't see any further problems that may occur. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
