  1. I was only getting 5-600 calories in for the first 4 months or so. Never counted Protein or calories until the last few weeks when I could eat more. Don't worry at 2 weeks post op. Concentrate on your fluids. The rest will follow. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    Use of PPIs

Had it for one month post op. No issues after stopping it. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  3. I put 2lb on about 5 months post op. I was only having 600 calories. I increased my calories by making smoothies with coconut milk, yoghurt, avocado, spinach, frozen berries and Protein powder. It increased my calories to about 850 a day. That week I lost the 2 I out on plus 2 more! Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

Why are so many stages different?

I'm very careful with it. I have 1 slice of bread a week. I have rice most days for lunch. I know I'm only almost 6 months post op but I only had 1 stall at 3 weeks post op. I've lost steadily since. But I keep my portion sizes very small. I have full fat cheese and pretzels every evening for supper but I weigh them out. I'm lucky that I lost my sweet tooth after surgery so I don't have a problem there. I just think a balanced diet from all food sources is best. I've lost steadily and have lost 60% of my excess weight so I'm happy and my bariatric team encourage breads etc in small portions. A sandwich is on my lunch options from my dietician! 5. Mine returned at 5 months. But not like preop. It just feels like a reminder that it's time to eat. It goes the minute I eat my first mouthful of food. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

Why are so many stages different?

I've eaten Pasta since week 7 when of went on solids. But only tiny amounts. And rice. And bread. I rarely have them but I am allowed them. They haven't hindered my weight loss. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    No veggies.....?

I make smoothies with spinach, avocado, berries, coconut milk and yoghurt to boost my fruit and veg intake. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  8. My surgeon explained after my sleeve that I have a golden window of 12-14 months to lose the weight as after this time you tend to get hungrier and portion sizes increase. This actually happened to me 5 months post op so I am careful to restrict my portion size, eat until satisfied rather than full and track everything I eat and stick to under 1000 calories. I'm now 5 1/2 months post op and 79lb down. I've lost almost 60% of my excess weight so I'm on track. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    30/30/30 rule

It does?! I had surgery on August 15 yesterday and i only had one liter from yesterday afternoon until now it's only 431am though Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I promise it does. I could only sip very slowly for the first few months. I still dont/ can't gulp but I can tolerate drinking faster. It will come in time. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    30/30/30 rule

As you move on you can drink more quickly so it gets easier. I can drink half a litre of fluids in around half an hour now so I can get around 2.5 litres in most days easily. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    Food

I'm on the UK also but not on the NHS. I was given a strict plan to follow. Trust me....it's worth following it to the letter. I know it's difficult and at times you want certain foods but it's not worth it if you follow your plan you're less likely to have problems with foods as you go along. I'm 6 months post op now and can eat anything I want. I have carbs, fats etc. But in small portions. The drinking rule is also for the following reason....drinking too soon before a meal can fill you up so you can't get your calories in with food. Drinking within half an hour after will wash the food out of the stomach too quickly so you will get hungry after. If you need any help message me. I was given loads of post op info but I found a great food plan on St George's trust website. Google it. It really helps. Just take it slowly. The food stages pass quicker than you think. Don't give in to head hunger. It may slow down your weight loss x Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    Random Thought/Question

If I have a craving I have it. I haven't yet found a food I can't tolerate. BUT I'm 6 months post op and I followed my post op diet plan to the letter. I can eat bread, Pasta, salad, all meats etc without problems. The only time I had a problem was when I ate far too quickly. I never did that again! However, my portion sizes are tiny. So if I get a Chinese takeaway (e.g. chicken curry with fried rice) on a Saturday night, I get 10 portions out of it which I freeze for lunches at work. 13. I was exactly the same. 3 days in hospital with nausea but never threw up. I was 7 days post op before I could sleep on my side. It is common not to be able to pass urine post op. That won't last. I promise it will get easier. Just take each day as it comes. This will all be behind you very soon. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    30/30/30 rule

I had the sleeve in February. I was also told the 30/30/30 rules. It takes some getting used to but once you're in a routine it's easy. I don't have any problems with it at all. Just find it natural now to clock the time when I finish eating/drinking. I manage 2 litres of fluids and 6 meals/snacks a day. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

As I said...it was my CHOICE to pay. No regrets/ jealousy or any other negative feelings about paying for it it was worth every single penny. So don't jump to conclusions. Just like you keep telling everyone else! Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

Touchy! You haven't hit a nerve...You're just getting on them! I didn't HAVE to pay for my surgery. I chose not to drain an already overstretched NHS and pay for myself. It will take me 2 years to pay off the loan I took out to pay for it. That was my choice. I've paid into the system for over 30 years but think the money is better used elsewhere. You think people have an interest in you. They don't. Quite the opposite in fact. They just want you to stop whinging and move on! Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

Wow. Gina...I really truly think you need help. Seriously. I know you don't like comments I have made before as I work for, and support our NHS. BUT...I don't believe for 1 minute that in 2 years of preop planning/ research that you weren't aware of the risks/ side effects of surgery. I paid for my surgery and only had a couple of weeks between my initial consultation and surgery. And I found out all these potential problems within that time. Gallbladder removal is common after ANY type of large weight loss...not just surgery. There are risks with any surgical procedure and I don't believe you were consented for surgery without being informed of them. You go from being in bed and so debilitated by your surgery to going to pizza Hut for a family meal the next day! None of your stories are consistent. You slate the NHS but you were prepared to let them pay for your WLS. I'm interested to know how much you've paid into the system over the years. And yet you're prepared to continue to use them for your current/ future needs! If you don't like it then pay and go private! I know you don't like people not agreeing with everything you say but tbh people are just getting bored of constantly reading the same things. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    1500 calories?

Frustrated with losing 28lb in a month? Are you serious? How much more did you expect?! Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  20. I had a brilliant recovery. Surgery took 25 minutes. A couple of days of nausea but that's it. No pain at all. Sailed through the food stages. I can tolerate everything. I eat anything I want. Even bread, rice, carbs etc BUT not every day and in very small amounts. I lost my sweet tooth which helps. I've never had surgery before so can't compare. I was tired for several weeks until my calorie intake increased. Suffered from constipation but I've fixed that by having flaxseed daily on my cereals. I'd do it again tomorrow. I had it done on 26th February and I'm 80lb down. Good luck with your decision. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    Does anyone regret their surgery?

Gina. .you CAN complain without repercussions. That's what PALS are for. You can also try and sue if you wanted...trusts pay millions every year for insurance to cover claims. I'm just very concerned about many of your comments. There are people on here who may be waiting for surgery on the NHS and it needs to be made clear that your experience IS rare. For instance.. I wouldn't have got through WITHOUT cyclizine post op! We use it regularly without problems. I know many people who have had successful, uncomplicated surgery with the NHS. Same about your post op Meds. I didn't have a problem getting my GP to prescribe them. What medication can be given to prevent gallbladder problems? I don't know of any...it's a side effect of rapid weight loss, with or without surgery. I understand you're upset and frustrated but people need to know it is not common to go through what you have. Once we lose the NHS people need to worry. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  22. I'm in the UK but have you seen a physiotherapist who could advise you about the correct exercises you should be doing to help? I also agree with topical treatment. I've been using voltarol gel for my joint pain. Maybe swimming might be a better exercise atm? Good luck. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

How to Make the Most Out of Buffets

That's sounds like good progress. Have you tried anything a bit thicker?how do you tolerate say a little cottage cheese? I found rusks easy to digest early on. You can make them thinner. Weetabix now do a Protein version which you could try things with milk and Protein powder? May give you more energy. When you go out please be careful. You might make yourself Ill if you try solids and can't tolerate them. Why don't you ring them before you go, explain your situation and ask if you can take some soup of your own and they can bring it out in a bowl for you with the others food. I've done this before with my son at pizza Hut. He didn't eat pizza but they allowed him to take in a macdonalds and they just put it on a plate for him! They're usually very accommodating.
