Had my 1st appt with the Dr. at Beaumont in Rochester last Friday. She said she expedited me seeing the psych dr & to get the results so hopefully I can have surgery Possibly October, if not, November. Really nice office staff. I came in with clearance from my primary care Dr & from my cardolilogist as well as previous testing I've had done. Also, 4 of my family members have had this surgery so I told her I've been ready to have this done & with Medicare you don't have to have the 6 month weight loss under a physician so with all that said she expedited my Psych appt & the results to get from those to her as that is what takes the longest she said.

Im worried about aging with the sleeve surgery. Ive had a few family members have this done & they aged. They were older when they got it done. Im 37 years old & my BMI is 35, lower end, but Im so nervous to age 10 or 20 years with the surgery, I might not want to get it done. Does Everyone age? Is it a guarntee that you age with the surgery?

My 1st eval appt is next month. I received paperwork to fill out & read in the meantime.. I'm going through Beaumont (Troy).. It mentions that you have to get a body composition test & bone density test. Do you really have to have these done? Or does it depend on the person & their BMI? McLaren Flint does Not require these tests so wondering if Beaumont makes you OR they may request you get it done? It's more testing I'd rather not have because of the dye they run through your body so I miay go through McLaren if it means less testing..

Good question, Id like to know as well. Im 37 with a BMI of 33 & wondering if you have less to lose if you still have the loose skin..

My pcp documented my last appt as a weight loss appt & she has me coming back next month so Ill have 2 under my belt Before my 1st eval with Beaumont So with that being said, will those appts count as supervised visits Or will it Not count thru my pcp & it has to be 6 visits from the beaumont weight loss place??

Also, do you get weighed in at all these appts? The nutrition classes, psych eval & etc? I hate being weighed, my anxiety goes up bc Im embaressed being obese:(

How doe sthis process work with Medicare? I have my seminar in 2 weeks which is my 1st appt going towards the sleeve surgery. Other than my Primary care, she is on board, but whats the steps with getting this approved under Medicare? Normally hard or easy? Wait time?

How many visits with Medicare? Does anyone have original Medicare insurance & knows the exact requirements as far as how many visits of supervised weight loss? When I call medicare, they won't tell me much & they said it doesn't say how many visits, just that I need to have failed diets in the past & to have my docs office call them to get exact info

My BMI is 35. I have 2 health issues, high BP & cholesterol. I go to my 1st eval next month & I should be covered under medicare. But Im 1 of the folks on the lower end of the BMI scale. If I even lose 2 pounds, I won't be qualified under my insurance. I've been on the roller coaster of all the diets out there for years & Im done with that..

Ive been on zoloft for awhile & it helps with my depression. I havent been approved for surgery yet, but are they going to deny me bc I currently take meds for depression? My 1st eval appt is Aug 13th & I just wonder what to expect when I tell the psych doc Im on meds for depression

Mrs Robinson, So did the insurance have you do the 3 month appts? I seen my primary care last week, she's on board with this surgery so if I need a letter from her (Im sure I will) she said she would write one up I have seen her on & off for 2 years for weight loss so not sure if she wrotes that in a letter, If that would be good enough or if I need to see her once a month for 3 or 6 months in a row? I called medicare, they won't tell me anything, they said my surgeons office has to call & Im not there yet, My seminar is on the 20th then Ill get my 1st appt with their doc.

Sassysleeved, I sent you a message re: your BMI. You said bc of what your bmi is, you don't have to do the 6 months visits. My BMI is 35 & the 1st plave I called (barix clinic) they said bc Im on the lower end of the bmi (35) I wouldnt have to do the 6 month appts with the dietician & etc so Im curious what your BMI is. Ok I was wrong, I assumed I was off by 5 pounds. After talking to my drs office to confirm my BMI, I do fit the criteria. My BMI is 35, I weigh 219 & height is 5'6". Sooo my question now is, since I cant afford to lose ANY weight, how will that work with these 6 month diet plans I hear everyone tell me? When I called Medicare, they told me I need documents that diet plans have failed, nothing about 3 or 6 months at a drs office. Thanks for all your help I have seen my primary dr in May & had a lot of routine labs done that are normal, I womder if they'd make me go through that again? Also, when they measure you, do you have to be undressed for that? Im really weird about being heavy & undressing in front of people I dont know Where are they measuring you at? Thanks

Thanks, that does help. Yes its the red white and blue medicare care card. I know I have 20% copays, but its better than not having the surgery covered Ill check the link you, thanks! Also, went to my primary dr today, my scale at home is off & Im 5 pounds too light for the surgery. 5 pounds! So frustrating:( Im so close to BMI 35 & have high BP & High cholesterol for years.

I went in to my primary care dr. Guess my at home scale is off Im 5 pounds off from getting the surgery covered. Thats a bummer 5 pounds!

How do you get weighed at weigh ins? Nude or with a gown or fully clothed? My mom told me prolly nude. If thats the case, I would be embaressed

Original medicare as far as I know. Its my primary, only insurance I have. Im on disability

as far as my BMI, Im borderline, My BMI is 35 with high BP, high cholsterol & asthma. If I lose ANY weight, I would be denied I was told. I have Medicare insurance, I wonder if I can get a block appt & go all day?

Hello, I'm in Michigan. I have the seminar in rochester to go to July 20th at Beaumont for the gastric sleeve at Troy, Beaumont. I have Medicare only. Anyone else have Medicare? Also, do they weigh you in at the seminar? what are the steps at the seminar & there after so I know whats expected & maybe can be prepared before I go to the seminar. Whats Block testing? Thanks
