14 months post-op and carrying: help!
kbuck3779 posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I was sleeved 7/12/16, and my husband and I just found out this week I'm pregnant. This is #2, but the 1st post-op. Of course, I let my surgeon's office know, and the secretary gave me the recommendations because the Dr and RN were off on Friday. So naturally I turned to Dr. Google, and it's made me a wreck! I've been taking prenatal vitamins since we started trying for #2, supplementing my B12 and calcium. My B12 was already sky-high, and studies I've been reading say that such high doses can increase risks for autism. I also am worried about what my intake should be. Should I be increasing my proteins at all? What should I be aware of with weight gain? Any thoughts or ideas would be super helpful. -

I'm officially 1 month post op!! And while this is awesome, and I've made a lot of changes, I have noticed something huge that is affecting me seriously. I work overnights, 7p-7a, and am having serious trouble with getting enough rest, and making sure I eat enough on my recovery day (usually I work either 2 nights back to back, or 3 back to back and then have a few days off in between, and the day after my last shift is my 'recovery day'). I am really trying to get everything I need to do on that day, but it's next to impossible unless I carry on with a night schedule. Having a toddler and husband who miss me makes the whole stay up all night and sleep all day routine a bit tough. I've contemplated talking to work about what's going on. They know I've been wanting a daytime position for a few months now, and while they're waiting on results of a civil service promotion exam that was given in April, I feel like working nights is starting to burden and burn me out more than pre-op. This is honestly the first time I've really needed to stand up for what I need to be healthy, and I'm not quite sure what to do or how to do it. I can't afford to go part time (insurance) and I'm getting worried that sooner or later, whether due to lack of sleep or lack of self-care, I'm going to have a huge blunder at work (police and 911 dispatcher here) or during my hour long commute home. How did you learn to stand up for what you need to be healthy? ⛵️♌️

One month out expectations
kbuck3779 replied to cogal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@cogal I'm just about a month out myself as well, and am in the same boat- I'm on soft foods, and in the past week only lost about 2-3 lbs after a great 2 week start. I'm trying not to notice the weight as much as I'm trying to focus on how many inches I've lost already, even just visually. I feel a bit aggravated, with trying to come up with new ideas to eat high Protein meals that are well portioned (I've been trying to use a lot of "muffin pan" recipes) but it just seems everything is very...not what I want haha. But I'm trying to keep up with protein and fluids any way. ⛵️♌️ -
Central Jersey Sleeved 7/12!

@@jersey0601 So far not too bad, I've definitely hit my 3 week stall, but I'm glad I'm not solely on liquids any more!! I've been doing a lot of walking, trying to stay somewhat low impact, but I've been using light hand weights to help with upper body. ⛵️♌️ -

Did i really need the surgery?
kbuck3779 replied to jaysmm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@LowBMISleever Very well put!!! I've had family question why I had my surgery as well, and no matter what I did, I simply couldn't get the weight off. I have a nearly 2y/o toddler that is always in motion and couldn't keep up with her. Sure, I was in the smaller side compared to many others. But nearly 1 month out, I feel better than I have in many years. As you pointed out, the decision for surgery was up to my surgeon, PCP, and myself. No one else. @@jaysmm I think your post title is really throwing people off. It seems, (or so I've read) many, if not all of us at some point feel a sort of buyer's remorse. We hear that people lose double digits in their first month- which doesn't always hold Water for those with a lower starting weight. Also, most sleeves remove up to 90% of the stomach- based on each person individually and what the surgeon and doctors this is best for that person. It's hard to learn to take our very high expectations and put them in a box, and say goodbye to them. Self-criticism is more defeat when now is the time to get to know and love YOU for who you are. Be kind to yourself. Trust your team for making a committed decision with you. Hang strong, and know you DO have support here!! ⛵️♌️ -

Feel a bit lost?
kbuck3779 replied to missblonde20's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I struggle with the same thing!! Have you considered something that does make you chew some, like the ricotta cheese bake? I find cheese to be a comfort food, and it's soft enough to eat, so I find it's a perfect snack to grab 1 slice of provolone (which is only an ounce), and I get the satisfaction of feeling like I ate real food lol ⛵️♌️ -
Hey all, I'm officially 3 weeks out of surgery today, and started on soft foods last week (day 15). Maybe it's me adjusting to my sleeve, or not taking small enough bites (I count to 30 when I chew!!), but I feel like whenever I swallow, I'm also swallowing air and feel like I need to burp but can't. Is that just my body saying I'm full now? I know it seems silly, but sometimes I'm not tuned to fine alerts like something as subtle lol ⛵️♌️

Can't get protein in
kbuck3779 replied to MarieLouise's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@MarieLouise I've found Isopure unflavored to work well with a lot when I cook, but it needs to be dissolved in cold fluids than just dumping it into a hot Soup (it'll clump up and it's super gross ) and it helps me make sure I'm getting enough Protein in everything minus my flavored waters or decaf iced teas ⛵️♌️ -
