Help! I've had 1 fill still no restriction.
Kim_8 replied to SRaeM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I didn't have much restriction after my first fill. I kept seeing everyone talking about being full after 1 cup (max) of food. I just wasn't experiencing this. A month later I went back for another fill - THEN I got restriction :-). Now I know what the 1 cup max thing is about. :-) I still tried to eat the 1 cup even though I didn't feel "full".... but let me tell you, when you have proper restriction, there is no doubt of when you're full. Good luck pumpkin! -
Me, too Paula! But hey - I'm willing to go back to the doc tomorrow with that little piece of trivia and see what he has to say :-).
-
Ah Tricia - I'm feeling the same way about the doc. I just don't get the treatment. I have posted on a PCOS board, but don't have any word back yet. I appreciate all your help more than you know.

I got mine at about 5 weeks.

Hey Shawn - sounds like you're doing good! I'm encouraged! I hope weight loss will fix this. Weird thing for me is that I've never had any problems with regular periods. Always like clockwork, always normal. Just the high bp, unwanted hair, acne, weight and now elevated hormones. Wonder why I'm taking something like this? They actually said it would stop my period. Very strange I thought.....

Thanks Sam! I'll go take a look.

Possible solution for PB's and restriction pain
Kim_8 replied to Jersey Jesse's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mini-me, Good thought. Does anyone think holding your breath to make the golfball go away will do any damage to the band (at least any more than having something stuck in there and sliming away?) Vera listed the science there of how the esophogas works.... but I don't know how to make the connection about whether or not it will hurt anything. I guess it expands the esophogas and allows the food to at least readjust in there (don't know if it makes it go down or not - I'm thinking not because I was still full after I held my breath - just no more pains). -
Hi guys - just picked up the prescription. It's called Medroxyprogesterone. No, no sonogram was done. They went strictly off my symptoms and off of the elevated readings on the two hormones. What they quoted me as provera over the phone is reading on the prescription as I listed above. It does say that it can cause pulmonary embolism. I thought about the pregnancy comment and was wondering if he only treats with Metformin when you are trying to get pregnant is because the other solution is some form of birth control or hormone that could be harmful to the baby?? Just a thought. I'm not crazy about taking this stuff at all. Tons of just lovely possible side effects. So, start with a new obgyn or straight to the endocrinologist? Too bad - he was pretty nice and works at Baylor Women's Center (which is pretty reputable around here). I would have thought he was informed. Also - wondering what the reason behind the one month deal is... Nurse said that if it lowered the levels of testosterone and DHEA then that would mean a positive PCOS diagnosis. Not sure how all that works. He did not test my insulin levels. Ok, well this is scattered... I'm a little rattled. Thanks so much guys again for the help!!!! Oh yea - and I'll try to get this little issue wrapped up PDQ... no July or August visits to the hospital for me. LOL

I want to be able to wear my husband's camoflauge pants. I have always loved them ---- only thing is I picture myself looking like Meg Ryan would wearing them. LOL Now my husband was a little bit of a thing when he used to wear them. Every now and then I try them on... When I started this they wouldn't go over my hips... I just got them on and zipped (sort of) but it looks like I've got pigs wrestling under a blanket. My goal is to be able to wear these and have them be baggy! (oh and to look like Meg Ryan) :-)

Pam - I have a fear of choking, too. My aunt choked when I was little and tried to come to me for help and I thought she was kidding.. she always used to be goofy and messed around alot. This time she wasn't. Since then I break into a sweat whenever I so much as hear someone who sounds like they are choking. It may just be a cough but I'm wigging out. This isn't like choking at all. It's like you swallowed something too big to go down but it gets stuck in your chest area (just about the band). It in no way keeps you from breathing... it's just uncomfortable! Hope that helps. For me the gain is worth the pain.... most of the time I forget that the band is even there. -
Elizabeth - Thanks for the info. Wow - that's pretty scarry. I did talk to the nurse this afternoon after she talked to the doctor. They want to try me on a one month dose of Provera and then have blood work re-done at the end of that time. Does that sound reasonable to you? My DHEA levels were at 342 (normal 40-325) and Testosterone was 88 (normal 20-75). They said the one dose of Provera would confirm the PCOS diagnosis. I also just talked to the nurse again about the glucophage and they said that's not given unless the person is trying to get pregnant.... I thought glucophage was metformin and used to control blood sugar... what would that have to do with getting pregnant. So confused and wish I would have chosen a medical profession instead of a computer geek. :-)

Thanks Tricia. I appreciate the insight. Maybe mine will go away, too. I would love the birth control shot - just know that I've heard that smoking is an issue with birth control. I could stop smoking --- ughhh. I've got high blood pressure (mostly high anyway, although sometimes I'll get a normal reading). I've got excessive hair growth and the hormone tests came back pretty elevated... ok I'm a guy :-). Kidding. Also acne and obesity. I'm checking on the insulin results. It's nice to hear that your symptoms are going away with weight loss. I'm down to 180 ish now... wonder how low it will have to go before I start seeing some changes?

Possible solution for PB's and restriction pain

HarleyNana - 1 pb per day - yikes! That sucks a bunch! I'll be interested to hear if this works for you! I slime on a frequent basis, but have only had 1 true PB to date since banding. I tried a doughnut - I know, I know -- that was stupid :-). I did try the meat tenderizer when I was eating chicken and it happened. That worked as well... but it's not always meat. Today it was stupid old spaghettios. Sunta & Angie - This is good news. This probably means it will work next time I try it as well! Yea! Pam - for me slime is when I eat something and feel like I have a golfball stuck in my chest. I then start producing mass amounts of saliva and have to just stand there spitting it out until it stops. The deep breath thing made this stop in it's tracks before it even got started. This is good news for me. Yep - it's disgusting, but not everyone does it :-). Read the board some and you'll find many descriptions of this activity... do a search on pb and slime. -
Possible solution for PB's and restriction pain

LOL - maybe so. I've tried the jogging around the driveway thing, but it never seemed to help. Now I do have to tell you that when I let my breath out it sounded like a baby dinosaur was living in my chest. Really funny screaming kind of noises! I think the guy in the next cube wonders what the hell I'm eating over here. -
Sus - WOW! Look at you go woman! That's awesome! Congrats... and you know me, but I'd be turning those clothes inside out and showing some new size tags! I can just hear myself now explaining away... "oh my gosh! how did I manage to get my pants on inside out AGAIN?" LOL Jacqie - I loved the leg crossing thing! It put a smile from ear to ear on my face when I realized what I'd done!

Holy crap - it works! Still a little uncomfortable, but don't think I'm dying! Thanks so much for sharing this! Your indebted friend forever... :-) -
Hi Guys - thanks for the info. I looked at the Depo-provera site and the only thing I didn't like was that if you had adverse reactions, the only thing you could do is wait for the medication to wear off - which in this case is a pretty long time. I also read about Metformin - lots of side effects with this one. Tricia - why did your PCP take you off the Metformin? What do you take now - if anything? Ralheit - did you have any adverse reaction to the depo-provera?

How cute! What an adorable little boy you have!

Possible solution for PB's and restriction pain

Oh - please let this work! My band is being weird lately. Sometimes I can eat just fine, but most of the time I slime like something out of Alien until I can get past the first bit of food deal. Thanks for sharing! I'll be holding my breath tomorrow! -
I absolutely HATE digging! I would rather walk on the dreadmill for 3 hours than dig. So lucky for me my husband will do what I ask him to! Thanks for the tips on the pond! It looks so pretty. You guys did such a nice job!

being banded on Tuesday and getting nervous
Kim_8 replied to tybalt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Tybalt. You'll be fine! It was actually much better than I had expected. Day 1 and 2 were a little rough... just sore trying to get up and down. Gas was pretty bad (although it was gas pain, not really gas coming out). I had lots of pain in my shoulder that lasted for about 3 weeks or so and then went away. Now I only get it every now and again. I went in for surgery first thing in the morning and was on my way home by 2pm-ish. I had surgery on a Thursday and went back to work the following Monday. It wasn't a great day at work, but not that bad either. I felt much better by Tuesday. Each day that passes you'll feel much, much better! Good luck on your surgery! -
Ravens - LOL - I'm in, WAY IN. A group discount... hahahahaha... love it.
-
Ok, that's it... you're all hired. I can't even take ONE picture of my yard! I'm inspired. I made a feeble attempt to plant flowers in the front but they're tipped over to the side and look pitiful.... I'm going to give it a go. I LOVE the ponds! Are they hard to put in? My back yard is pretty good size and could use something like that! Boy, a lasagna garden and a pond - my husband is going to be busy! :-)

Hey Randy - they look great. Thanks for posting them! It was nice to meet you and Ms. Joy! Hope you guys had a good trip back home! -
Ok - I got Mylicon (sp?) drops - the stuff you give babies when they have gas. Also, make sure you have a heating pad. When you get to the non-Clear Liquids stage, I found that potato Soup made with Water salt and pepper was a lifesaver. Good luck with the surgery! PS... you'll be fine! you will stop eating.... :-)
