I had surgery on Thursday and went back to work the following Monday... I'd have been better if I waited till Wednesday, but it really wasn't so bad! Days 1, 2 and 3 wre the worst... the rest was just GAS :-). Everyone's different tho!

Hi KSBandster - Potato soup blended in the blender saved my life during post op eating. I put salt and pepper in it and it was like eating food again --- not just broth. I had never been so happy to move past the broth stage even though I was still on liquids. I tried peanut butter during the mushy stage, but it didn't work so well for me. Since then I've had a piece of peanut butter wheat toast - just a little bit of peanut butter though and it did ok. However, I don't know if peanut butter qualifies for liquid. Maybe someone here will though. Congrats on your banding!

Hi Marie - Welcome! Impressive weight loss woman! Looks like you're doing great! I'm jealous! Glad you decided to visit!

Hola guys - Just checking in tonight to see how everyone's doing! P'nut - I love the funniest home video thing! Yes, getting up from the floor is funniest home video worthy! So how many situps have I done today? None! AND I just ate taco bueno. What the heck? I ate a fraction of what I would have eaten pre-band, but geez, here, here to healthy food choices . I took myself for a treat today and had my hair done. I am now suited with a new Lisa Rinna do with blonde highlights (wish I had the face, :kiss2: and bod to go with the hair, but hey - it's a start). I have decided to dust off my rollerblades and take them to work with me. I work in an industrial park area and there's great parking lots everywhere for this. Weather is gorgeous in Texas right now, so thought this would be fun excercise without really feeling like I'm exercising. So far I haven't worked up the nerve to go to the gym and I figure maybe this will get me off on the right foot. Hope everyone had a great Saturday! Kim

Carrie - Congrats! That is the day I will know everything is going to be ok. I'm so happy for you! Kim

I got mylicon drops like I used to give my kids when they were babies - helped a little.... tried maalox (sp?) and that helped a little. Heating pad in bed helped more than anything. It just takes some time to get past it. Took me about 2 weeks that I thought would never end - but they did! If you're like me, you'll start getting pain in your shoulder and collar bone area... that sucks. Like I said though - it WON'T last forever! Hang in there - you'll make it! Congrats on your surgery.... this few weeks of post op blues will be over before you know it.

LBT is what I do, but I feel like my butt is getting wider as I sit here every night. I think exercise sounds like a good idea. I'd love to say that I really would put the shoes on and go for a walk - but so far my best intentions have failed. Maybe I'll start trying to do 20 situps each time I feel like eating. All I would have to do is make myself get on the floor.... that shouldn't be too hard, but we'll see.

Betje - I see this question a lot on here, so I typed up some instructions for just such occasions. Hope these help. PM me if it doesn't work and I'll try and help you. How to set up your ticker: 1. Go to www.tickerfactory.com 2. Click on weight loss link 3. Select a ticker ruler you like by clicking the option button next to the one you choose and then click NEXT 4. Choose a ticker slider you like by clicking the option button next to your choice and then click NEXT 5. Configure your weight tracker by entering you info and the click NEXT 6. You will see a message on the screen that says Done! Your Ticket URL is: (and then there will be a long string of text starting with http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/..... 7. Click your mouse at the beginning of this text (starting with the h in http and drag over the entire line of text. (make sure you highlight the entire line (URL) 8. Press Ctrl+C (hold these keys down at the same time) to copy the text you have highlighted 9. Go back to www.lapbandtalk.com and click the UserCP link 10. Click the link titled Edit Signature 11. Scroll down to the text box titled edit signature and place your cursor where you want your ticker to go 12. Click the icon called insert image - this is the one that is yellow with the two little mountains and sun on it 13. A window will pop up telling you to enter the URL of the image 14. Press Ctrl+V (hold these keys down at the same time) to paste the text you copied in step 8 above into this field. 15. Click ok and you're done! Your ticker should magically appear. 16. Click save signature and you're done - you can update it as often as you want by going to user CP, click on your current ticker and press delete - then repeat these steps to re-add. That's how I do it anyway :-).

Did anyone else feel like they had a stomach flu post banding???
Kim_8 replied to Sunta's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Me too, me too.... I complained A LOT right after banding. I had horrible "bathroom" issues, too :-) and rumbling and port pain and gas pain and tired out eating soup pains and I don't want another suppository pains and my stomach is so bloated it hurts pains, and, and, and..... I feel ever so much better now!! Hang in there - it'll get better before long! -
Hey Wheetsin - congrats on that new band! I'm glad you're doing so well - 3 hours - that is really quick!
-
Ah - see I thought the waterpick was just as good if not better. I got one and it was so much easier... but alas, the dentist tells me it's like driving through a carwash... not everything comes off. Better than not flossing though!

Hi Guys! My name is Kim and I'm from Keller, TX in the Dallas/Ft Worth area. I've been married to my husband, Steve, for 16 years. We have two daughters - Samantha (15) and Chelsea (13) who are responsible for the onslaught of gray hair lately. I do business analysis / systems implementation work. Weight? Well, like most of you, I've been on every kind out diet out there and managed to lose and then gain back plus a few each time. I eventually made my way up to 235 lbs or so (all time high). I lost down to about 185 and swore I'd never gain it back.... but alas.... I had made it back to 218 when a friend of the family had lap band surgery and talked to me about it. I decided to do this thing and tried to get my dad and sister to join me, but for now I'm the lone ranger. Hoping they'll watch me and follow! So here I am - banded for almost two months now and really pretty happy so far! I am back under 200 AND I now weigh less than my husband by 12 lbs - that hasn't happened in 15 years! I have never in my life felt "thin". I haven't worn a normal size clothing since my 2nd child was born (and even then it was for about 2 months after she was born). I look forward to these things! Weight is a pisser - it makes me too embarrassed to do things I think I would find to be great fun! It zaps self confidence that could make my life so much more enjoyable. I look forward to this journey with great optimism and I've enjoyed being a part of this board. Great stories and support here - thanks guys. By the way - I've been stuck at the same weight now for 5 days. Hopefully this is the kickstart I need! 3/1/2006: 218 / 192 (-26)

I love the food discount! :-) I'm off to golden corral for a midnight snack.....

I was on liquids/mushies for 3 or 4 weeks after surgery - 1st two weeks were definitely liquids. When I started eating real foods I found some things easy and some things not so easy.... Dry meats tend to be a problem for me. If I have meat, I always have sauce of some kind and I make sure the meat is tender. Lots of people have issues with bread (I have a problem with gooey bread, but not with wheat bread *so far*). It's different for different people from what I've read. So far those are the only two things I've tried that I personally have had a problem with. I make absolutely sure that I chew everything up really, really good though. If it sticks together and won't chew up well, then I don't eat it. I've seen lots of posts on this subject - check the food threads and see what else you find. Good luck with the new band - go easy for a while! France, huh? wow!

Good name. Good game plan. Wednesday's are cool. Would be fun to find out a little about others. Aren't you guys organized? :-) Thanks for starting this!
-
Alex - caffeine counts AGAINST your daily intake of fluids????? OH-OH. I have to be the most dehydrated person on the face of the earth! I drink at least 15 cups of coffee a day (and that's a real AT LEAST). I try and drink water, too... but geez that would be ummmm 23 glasses of water a day to counter the coffee and get my water in? UGGGGHHHH. And I can't drink before or after I eat. That's a lot of water in a short period of time! I'm off to get a catheter.... :-)

Ah - congrats ArcherMom (and Clo)! It is indeed an exciting time! It will be here before you know it! Good luck with surgery guys! Get Gas X. :-)

How would you know if the band came off?

How would you know if the band came off?
Kim_8 replied to April10's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
April10 - my guess is that your swelling has just gone down and so you don't have the restriction you had before when you were very swollen. This I hear is normal. As my swelling went down, I was more and more hungry. I was eventually eating alot more than the 3/4 - 1C of food. Once you start getting fills, you'll have better restriction and won't be able to eat as much. Cross fingers! I haven't read any posts about bands falling off and wasn't aware this could happen??? -
Elisa - Just speaking for my experience only - I felt fine after my first fill. You're on liquids for a few days though - so maybe it's hard to tell until you can get some food down. Have you checked to make sure you can get in for a bit of an unfill if you need to before your cruise? You'll only have a little time on real food to see if it's ok..... Probably lots of folks with more experience than me, so good luck on replies. *bump* again for you . Have a great cruise!
-
been there - done that! better at home for sure - you only gross out the spouse and kids! Although if you decided to give it a go at Outback, you'd probably have a great quiet table due to the outflux of dining guests. :-)

Are there any smokers out there (yuk I know it is bad)
Kim_8 replied to karenj's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I quit a little while before banding - part for the surgery and part because I had pneumonia. Then I got banded. Then I chewed nicotene gum for a month and a half with no smoking. Then I bought a pack of cigarettes, then another, then.... ok, so I'm back at it, but only am smoking 1/2 pk / day or so. I need to go back to the gum, but I hear it's bad for the band. I could try a patch but for some reason can't bring myself to put one on... I actually kind of like the gum, so it's too bad that's not good for the band. I think the main reason for not smoking was because of the respiratory complications with surgery - not 100% sure though. I did have one of those breathing things after surgery to see how high you can make the little ball go to exercise your lungs. Mine was pathetic. Try and quit if you can before surgery.... even a few days without smoke may be a help??? Respiratory complications would suck. At any rate, if at first you don't succeed....... :-) Hey - good luck on Friday! -
hey wheetsin - best wishes for a safe surgery and a SPEEDY recovery!
