    Getting noticed

DH and I discussed this - but only because I saw this thread and asked him. He said he noticed men eyeing me etc (how anyone can detect a shape under down-filled jackets etc is beyond me though:rolleyes:). Anyway, I was completely unaware of the looks, smiles, subtle come on's when he isn't around me in a store etc..I still am. DH says that as long as he has known me (and confirmed by my ex - I just had to ask to confirm) I never have been aware of appreciative looks etc. I just think everyone is friendly and talks to strangers - I do! I still have a ways to go yet in weight loss....maybe my awareness of other people's attention will come with that!

If bless your heart is an insult (my mind is still reeling over that) then is 'Bless you' also an insult? I know that I use that phrase a lot, in fact have probably written it on LBT...I SWEAR it was NEVER an insult. Bless you is said (in my area) as a thanks - someone brings you a coffee unexpectedly, or does you a favor unsolicited. The response is either 'Thank you. I appreciate it' or 'Bless you'. Never have been hit , punished yes, hit no...can't relate at all. What's the difference between south and (as Sick used it) deep south? Why isn't Texas southern? Man oh man, I have a lot of geography to brush up on obviously. Almost 5am...I can now start to get ready for the day - the Y doesn't open until 530.

WOW - honestly, this is new to me. I can see why people (no matter how well meaning, and even speaking the same language) can get into trouble ... same words, entirely different meanings. Note to self: Never say Bless you Heart unless with your family or friends!

What kind of grannies did you guys have?!? Hitting, castor oil and wine opening? Having not had one, I often wondered what I missed. I am not being snarky...I really want to know....is the phrase "bless your heart' an insult? Where I am from, it is a statement that you bestow on someone who is genuine and sweet or generous, and you are 'blessing' them...thanking them. The things I'm learning...I did not know that. *Tap updates her 'things to know when traveling' book*. Ditto Bet you did...you couldn't resist, could you?

    Did you exercise today?

Not bad?!?!?! That's FABULOUS! I do my 30 min of aerobics and I'm spent! You do that plus more and THEN calisthenics...WOW!!
  7. As a veteran of many, many surgeries, I have had several funny experiences.... One time I had been given my pre-op meds, and was waiting to be wheeled into the OR. Beside me was another patient who was being given his pre-op assessment by the anaesthetist. Each time the anaesthetist asked him a question, I would answer LOUDLY ...much to the laughter of the nursing staff and chagrin of the doc. (I was unaware I was doing it; but was told later) Amazingly though, apparently I answered all the questions correctly... Another time I was given heavy painkillers and the physcian came in to do a rectal exam...for the rest of the day, I told EVERYONE (nurses, candy stripers, visitors to other patients in the other ward beds etc) I had a rectal exam. Over and over and over; my bf tried to tell me that I didn't need to tell anyone, but I kept saying it over and over and over. Again, I have no recollection of this. I have many years of operations all of which had some funny components....

It is in writing, so we will hold you to your word. Charm bracelets - making a comeback. Guess I can dig out mine (about 35 years old) and start wearing it? Nah, gave up jewelry a few decades ago... So my location and identity are out - I'm Mrs. Claus!!! So I guess long underwear is not in your wardrobe of daily attire! Don't share, don't share....... In that case, tell her the theatre is closed!

Leslie - OMG! Gotta say - all the women in the sauna at my Y are naked; they sit on their towels (thank goodness - the potential for fecal matter germs would be too much for me), but no one does leg lifts!

Added to yesterday - 35 min walk home on unplowed sidewalks, through snow banks and slipping/sliding on ice patches...that's gotta count for something!!! At the Y this morning, 30 min shoulders and back (the new 8 pound weights were brutal); 30 min cycling
  11. Yesterday - better than the day before, great improvement over 2 days ago, but still too much....come on fill day!! B: 1 oz cheese S: 6 brazil nuts L: 1 oz chicken with a mushroom sauce; ff yogurt D: 1 black bean cake with lime sauce (found recipe here, I think...mmmmmm good) S: my downfall.....ff yogurt, ff pudding, and about 4 tbsp peanut butter.

    Did you exercise today?

Morning everyone! A gorgeous sunrise this morning - beautiful red/orange skies. too bad it is minus 20 degrees (and with wind chill is even cooler)! I did 30 minutes of back and shoulders with weights then 30 min cycling today. Shiny - whether it is your T-Tapp or lifting weights, it is important that the form is right. Just as with weights, I have to be vigilant at all times not to let gravity do the work but to do the propoer techniques and do them s-l-o-w-l-y!! Rhapsody - yes indeed, shoveling is a workout! Glad you didn't strain yourself. St Louis - I did find (and continue to find) that exercise is making a difference...it would be easier if I LIKED it, but I don't but I do it anyway!! Keep it up. Steve- it is great that your family is involved in activities with you; everyone gets healthy and a good bonding opportunity to away from distractions.

    What do you tell people?

I took the day of surgery off as a vacation day; had the surgery on the Friday, was back to work on the Monday, and no one knew - not then, or now. As for my gradual weight loss, if someone was brazen enough to comment, I would say I work out a minimum of 4 days a week and I watch what I eat; all true.

Hey wait....are we neighbors?? Nope, you didn't mention 8" of snow falling yesterday. Snort....or should I say gurgle? Why does ANYONE need a vehicle worth that money?? A car is a means to go from point A to B. That's it. *Obviously Tap is not a car chick!* Mean you are, just mean to post about high temps in a negative way to those of us in a deep-freeze! It never gets to 100 degrees even at the height of summer here...I can't imagine temps that high, but I'd like to experience them...!! ? What's a pandora bracelet? Morning everyone! It's Wednesday....thanks be! Had to roust DH out of bed early so that he could dig out the driveway enough for us to get out this morning...he's not a happy man!

    is anyone at goal

jaunderwood - you didn't lose ONLY 40 pounds....turn it around - WOW, you have LOST 40 pounds! That's fabulous!!!! YAY!!! Would you ever in your history have been thrilled with losing 10 or even 20 pounds??? If yes, then Celebrate 40!!! It isn't a race; you will get there. Just believe it and live it - sometimes easier said then done - I know ALL about it!!!

    Did you exercise today?

YAY Rhapsody - Shoveling is great cardiovascular and upper body workout; just remember proper body form and DON'T twist and throw (says Tap who remembers the pain of a wrenched back...). The whole shopping exercise I would gladly NEVER do - I hate shopping! But going on a date on Valentine's Day is a great idea...perhaps I can get DH to agree to that (and that it is close to both my birthday and my bandiversary, this should be easy, right?) I'm not giving up either, but I am disappointed with MY behavior, not the bands. I KNOW I have not been following the rules, I KNOW what to do, I just need to do it - consistently! Fill time, hurry up!

    Was it something I said????

Short1...the great thing about this forum is that there are so many people; the bad thing about this forum is that there are so many people with different opinions!! It is unfortunate that you have had negative experiences which have cause you to visit less often. I think most of us have at one time or another been misunderstood and it is really difficult on an internet site where the 'tone' of a message isn't heard so that comments read 'tough' but weren't meant that way. And then, as with any group of people, there are some we like and others we don't. And some people can communicate even a 'tough love' opinion with respect and others who, well, jump in where angels or a sober second thought may not have. Most of us do not intend to offend. I wish you well on your journey; good luck, and maybe we will see you again!

    Some people don't get it...

Since only DH knows Ive been banded (almost 1 year too!), and I take frequent business trips and have meetings where food of all kinds is presented, I have learned how to eat and not have the focus be on who is eating what and how much. So I carry a yogurt, water, and a few nuts in my briefcase if I go to a meeting; yes, snacks before I go to someone's house if historically their food was not the best choices. In the case of someone serving me lasagna, I either (depending on my mindset at the time) would eat the filling and leave the pasta (and just say if someone rudely commented on it I'm watching my carbs), OR take a few bites including the pasta and then cut up, move around, and leave the rest. In restaurants, I usually order only an appetizer, and make it last through the entire meal. Unlike Jachut though, if there are leftovers, I do take them home - DH is a walking talking stomach and I've paid for it, so someone is getting my money's worth!
