1 year with the lapband makes all the difference
tapshoes replied to RedTulips3's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for the great post...a great reminder on those days when I just am frustrated. Reflecting on where I've been in the past to the changes that are me today is always a good positive reminder. Keep it up! -
How long after surgery did you wait to return to work/school?
tapshoes replied to NCsQueen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Done Friday afternoon and back to my office job on Monday. -
Mine is about 1 inch below my belly-button. I can feel it only if I go poking around for it. I had a low profile port put in at surgery so I am not expecting it will ever become mistaken for an 'outie' bellybutton....but who knows - maybe if I become rake thin (pause for hysterical laughter), I will re-evluate this!
-
I didn't. Didn't feel the need to. I haven't told my mother about any of my surgeries (or for that matter, any of my medical issues) since I started having them when I was in my teens.
-
You originally asked an excellent question, and my responses mirror other posters. The surgery was a major commitment (financial) and I will be damned if I waste that money (I was self-pay). The band works to make me feel satisfied with smaller portions, therefore hunger is not causing me to constantly eat and eat and eat - regardless of what it was I was eating. As for exercise, many do a LOT more than me, and it has become a necessary and fun part of their lifestyle. For me, I committed to doing it 4 times a week, and 11 months later am still doing it - not because I like it, but because I have seen the results. I do it most weeks many more than 4 times a week, but I committed to doing it 4 times - anything more is a bonus. I am puzzled by your reference to missing some foods though. Not everyone has to give up these; my lifestyle includes these foods, so I eat them. For me, restricting or eliminating foods is not sustainable. Everything in moderation - whether it is rice or icecream or (my particular addiction) nuts. But follow the guidelines provided by your physician. Good luck.

Todays weather: WIND CHILL VALUES NEAR MINUS 30 EARLY THIS MORNING. THE EXTREME WIND CHILL VALUES WILL EASE OFF LATE THIS MORNING AS TEMPERATURES RISE AND WINDS DECREASE TO 20 TO 30 MPH. EXPECTED HIGH MINUS 10. Hense the need to plug in the block heater in your car every night, and to pre-warm the car before leaving.

this morning traps and tri's with weights 20 min then 30 min treadmill variable speeds and inclines I agree with Tquad - the IPOD helps keep the rhythm and tune out the noise around me.
-
Great!! Now if we could just corral a few of the missing.....
-
No days off for me so far - still have a way to go to goal, and really want to achieve it....despite my eating frenzies! Today - 20 minutes on traps and tri's with weights, then 30 min tm at variable speeds and inclines.

Thank heavens it's Friday...this week has had a month's worth of crap at work!
-
Ceradad - ditto! Lucky you; how are the wedding plans going? It is unusual to have those temps so frequently; once or twice a season may, but never for days and days...seemingly without end! Glad you caught it; haven't even been aware of my port since surgery - other than the 5 seconds fill phenomenon. I see them as slightly different as the car is parked in my driveway not moving, but that's ok...we can agree to disagree. YAY!!! Love it!! Why thank you! Snort!
-
But if you PB on PB does it float or sink?
-
Car was in his driveway. But sure, come up with a good reason...now I feel like a meanie!!!! Don't agree with this one...legislation should be to protect us (law abiding, responsible) from those who are doing wrong, not to penalize us because others are not. I guess we can agree to disagree...I just remembered this isn't in R&R anymore, so i guess I mis-posted.... Now back to discussing Ceradad's body.....

Craziest Things People Have Said Coming From Under General Anesthesia...
tapshoes replied to kabeerah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Adding to my previous post.... I was a child (5) and having surgery. Before the operation my mother and doctor kept telling me if I was a good girl, I could have icecream after surgery. So...in recovery, I asked for icecream (a favorite food even then!!) and when it didn't come, I was ...well...um, I guess unbearable!! No one could calm me and they made my mother come and get me. Finally in the ward room, my mother went to get some icecream, and while she was gone I knew I was going to throwup. But throwing up was bad in my mind and that would mean I wouldn't get icecream, so ... i got out of the bed, went to the next bed, and threw up there....wasn't me, mom, honest. I was good!!! to this day, no one knows how I climbed out of the bed...as back then small children were in beds with rails - like huge cribs. -
saggy boobs... will they bounce back?
tapshoes replied to Babe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
To answer the question - nope. Although I am not done my weight loss yet, I have gone from a 44DD to a 34DDD/F...and like nanaHarley, I move them out of the way to zip up my pants! Admittedly, I am older than the poster, but still, nipples are and will remain the only thing perky of the girls! I am in much more need of a tummytuck - good bras hide a lot, but the sagging gut is less easily hidden! -
Just read a local news story, and my blood is boiling (may keep me warm, but not in a good way) .... Remember, I live where it is freakin' cold: a person who does not have a remote starter for his car, went outside and started his car leaving it running with the keys in, did not lock his car doors, went inside the house. 10 min later he goes out, his car is gone. Car is eventually found, and charges laid etc EXCEPT that the police also charge the car owner for having left the car running with the keys in it. Now, I am NOT upset with the police (they enforce, not create the laws), and it makes sense that the insurance company might be hesitant to pay out on any claim etc BUT why oh why would there even be such a law? My house, my property, my car....why can't I leave it running with keys in, windows and doors open if I want? The person (in my pea-brain) who is guilty of anything is the one who STOLE the car. Personal responsibility....a quaint concept that is dying a slow 'some-one-else-is-to-blame' death... OK Rant over; you may now resume hairy-arsed (or leg) discussions....
-
Oh Ezma, I am sincerely SOOOOO happy for you! (Not about missing the exercise, but about finding the perfect house!). I also marvel at your plan to eat V-day dinner on your table 2 days after closure! Me, I'd probably still be looking for a table......

Yay everyone! I did indeed do my exercise today - 30 min on the elliptical and 25 minutes of leg work with weights. My legs are kinda wobbly now...

I almost 1 year with my band and have not regreted it - not once! My decision was based on a lot of things including comparisons with other surgeries. As others have said, I decided against RNY or the sleeve becasue I did not like the idea of permanence; the band can be modulated, and removed. There have been successes, failures and frustration with ALL options; there is no ONE solution for everyone. Things to consider: 1. Permanence 2. Are you willing to commit to eating differently for the rest of your life - by that, reducing the 'slider' foods; chewing chewing chewing your food 3. Are you willing to commit to follow-up appointments with your clinic/doctor? 4. Are you committed to going through the necessary pre-and post-op regimes including whatever protocols your doc has for transitioning to solid food? This is key - if you cannot commit to this, your chances of success are compromised. 5. Are you commited to following your doctors instructions regardless of what anyone on this forum or any other forum tells you is ok to do/eat? 6. Are you prepared to eat healthy and add exercise to your lifestyle? 7. Are you willing to accept a slower weight loss, or will you jeopordize your progress to see the scale move quickly by going on starvation rations and risking your health being too tight? These are some of the things to consider. Good luck on whatever you decide.
