Morning everyone! Posting a quick note before I start in on doing some chores before the sun gets up...then I'm going to go outside and enjoy my day off. The snow is almost gone from the yard, so perhaps I will get a chance to rake up a bit, and do some deadheading, and just 'putter'. Shiny - pm me some good recipes or link to a particularly good recipe. Here's hoping that you get to announce some good news (either pregnancy or job) related! LilMiss - Sorry to hear you are facing mind over stomach issues - I know all about them! Pop in here every once in a while and 'talk' with the VVs. RSG - Hope the weekend is going well. Audone - Getting ready to go clothes shopping???? I think we should do a roundup call of the missing VVs...just to get them to pop in and say hi: Marathinner, Ezma, Jamie, Crystal, Gibson,etc.....come out come out wherever you are!!

Mornin' all... Whoo hoo - a non-work day, and the sun is supposed to shine AND the temp above freezing...happy days are here ! So, once the sun is up, I may get to go into the garden, and do some raking - although I suspect the ground will still be frozen, but still outside playing in the dirt!!:w00t: Until then I will post here, do some inside housework, maybe watch a movie... Beth - congrats on the NSV Heartfire - I love sugar snap peas; wish I could get some fresh ones here, but that's months away yet. Lulu - pear martini? Time to fess up - I've never had a martini in my life, and since being banded I have consumed MAYBE 6 glasses of wine (my choice of alcohol) in total - that's over 14 months. CC and Beth - Will check out 'Knowing' - you're the first people I 'know' who have seen it. Sick - I'm not a cooking snob - pm the recipe to me.

Way to go, Ebony. And yes, a weekend away is probably a good thing right now! Sorry to hear about the insurance snafu, and delighted to hear that the nurse and receptionist were so kind. **snort** Very subtle. Excellent question!! Well that's it for me, guys. Have a great afternoon!

Ebony - At the risk of sounding paranoid....don't trust your fellow clericals tooo much; one of them may 'report' back to the boss on how you are doing - hoping to hear you say something negative. It is very sad that you are in this situation, and certainly your desire to be treated fairly is NOT too much to ask!

Weird combo of movies last night: The China Syndrome - 4 (spookily prescient of the Chernobyl disaster) 11:14 - 2.

Typically we have glazed ham, but perhaps turkey is the choice this year? As for dessert, I am thinking of a lemon chiffon cheesecake, and (because the nephews are chocaholics) some kind of chocolate concoction - but I don't know what. ideas anyone. CC - even when it is just DH and I, we cook the big dinners, and then the freezer and stockpots get used - creating soups/stews/lasagnas whatever... nothing like having portion size bags of shredded cooked chicken/ham/turkey in the freezer, or lots of soups readymade, or potpies made etc.
-
Hi Shiny - I'm thinking cheesecakey and/or chocolatey. In the past Ive done a mile-high lemon cheesecake for Easter, and I've done different chocolate cakes...what ideas do you have? Re the weight gain - are you grazing at all? Is your portion size slowly but surely increasing?

happy Thursday everyone! It is (for me) the end of the work week - finally !!! I have booked my next fill appointment, but it isn't for another 10 days...I hope I don't gain weight until then, but really and truly I am fighting the hunger. I have been in touch with Ezma; she has been very busy between her husband, her new house, and going back to work. I keep hoping she will sign on; perhaps it is time for me to followup with her again (although I hate to bother anyone but I am sorta mother hen-ish...) I'm having family in for Easter dinner and am trying to think of something new to create for dessert...any ideas?
-
Oh no you don't, Barb.... I am the winner!

There are veins on the back of hands?!?! Guess I have a ways to go yet...sigh. Feet too?!?!? **Louder sigh*** Yes indeed. Hope it was a good sleep Hope you Dad does well. And WAY TO GO on meeting this guy...of course, now we will all want to know ALL the details of the next encounter. CC - Hope the little guy improves. I was a soy-baby - the only result of that was that I never learned to like milk. I haven't had milk in my life...dairy products, yes, but milk by itself to drink or on cereal or anything, nope. Can't stand the taste. Whew ! I think Im caught up. It is a glorious above freezing sunny Thursday...and my last work day this week! Yahoo!!! Any ideas for a nice Easter-ish dessert for a family dinner?

I'm sure I could contribute volume 2 with 'tales from the other side'.:glare: Bottom line - people are well...people! Good bad effective ineffective honest liars lazy energetic etc...and therefore both management and staff are subject to the characteristic whims/idiosyncracies/lunacy of the species! Of course you and I are the examples of the exemplary!
-
Ebony - You sound as though you handled the situation with grace and professionalism - kudoos to you! I think Lulu has a great idea - document, document, document. (although as a manager, 'they always slip up'???:glare:) susan has a great point about why the head of HR??...big stick for small issue sounds more like the manager has an issue managing than you have in performance If the knife was in your back before, it will be worse for a while - particularly if your boss was hoping to force you to leave! It might be a rough few weeks - keep your head down, your eyes on the details, and document document document

Glou - your DD should be glad you didn't 'knock her into next week'...my mothers expression!

You are so dedicated, Shiny! That's right, RSG...just start again. Hope you have a great trip, and that Marcie and her sister enjoy a wonderful birthday celebration. What are your april goals, RSG? I did my Y routine this morning, and vowed again that I would follow the eating rules today...I have to make this commitment daily, it seems...too bad I can't KEEP it! It was sorta depressing when I realized that today isn't Thursday....I was all pumped up thinking my work week was over, but nooooooo, it's only Wednesday - RATS!!!
-
Morning everyone...the sun is shining, and the snow has finally stopped...2 days AFTER it started! It appears that yesterday was NOT Wednesday...which was quite a shock to me this morning as I was bubbly in anticipation of being off tomorrow!

That's a lab for you! **I miss my lab, but NO MORE PETS** I hope things went well... Beyond belief! My family back for the 6 generations they have been in this country (mat and pat) are both of the 1 marriage lasting 50 or more years. My parents almost made it to that, but my father died 3 weeks before their 50th.

I ditto the **oh crap** sentiment. As for the souvenirs, I've had a few things dragged in to me over time - besides the assortment of (mostly) dead mice, birds, rabbits...altho' one dog brought in a fresh baked pie, still in the pan...

Do you floss your teeth?
tapshoes replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I USED to go to the dentist every 6 months, and then when I was around 25 the dentist said it was a waste of time for us both...no need to come more than once every 2 or 3 years. I have very strong teeth, excellent gums, the few cavities I had were when I was a youngster and still have those fillings. I brush faithfully multiple times a day, rinse and gargle 2X day, but floss periodically. I LOVE going to the dentist...it is like getting a massage for your mouth. I usually just fall asleep ...obviously I haven't had dental issues; no needles, no scrapings, no ouchiness! -
There are tons of geneology records around - and the Mormon historic records online are fabulous (assuming you can get on....very busy site). (for those reading who don't know this, they aren't records on mormons only). My paternal and maternal history is well researched back to it's very early european roots; DHs family has very little. So far he has not discovered any Rockefeller's or mass murders, but enough minor 'scandals' to keep him digging...

Glou - a really bad movie is Doomsday. It is now my standard for horrid movies and all others are rated against it. So, the Alphabet Killer rated a 2...

When I started my career in healthcare, I began in hospitals where not having children made me the 'go to gal' whenever anyone wanted a holiday off, a night shift off, etc. 'After all, I want to be with my children for their first christmas/birthday/day of school, it's mother's day, it's father's day, or I want to be home because now they are old enough to understand and really enjoy the event or this will be the last 'event' before they go off to university or this is the first grandchild... it was never-ending! I didn't mind doing extra shifts, or shift changes occasionally, but after that everyone would come to me...It didn't take me too long to become a hard nosed b***ch. When I became management that experience served me well. My oft-repeated phrase: "hospitals are open 24h/7days/52 weeks a year. You knew that when you were hired." I survived - and have the thick skin to prove it! Leaving that environment did wonders for my mental health!

Don't you just hate that - knowing it is a dream waking up, and then returning to the dream?? Although DH and I are both from coastal locations, we are not big fish eaters. Real tuna/salmon are wonderful, and many of the white fish, but shellfish we can take or leave. For me, the flavor of shellfish is fine, it is the texture that I can't stand...sorta like garbage bags (or at least how I imagine they would be to chew).

Last night's movies: Alone with her - 2.5 (Great premise, just thought it was a little overacted by male actor, little unrealistic near the end) Valkyrie - 3. Despite Tom Cruise, a good movie but still could have been better.
-
If this thread came to life I think I'd be institutionalized...some of the images (thanks Plain) are just toooooo much to handle IRL let alone adding the dramatic flourishes of dreams!
-
Glou - even if you like your coworker, you HAVE to talk with her. This kind of stress is NOT healthy - PBing a breakfast shake is not the way to start the day!
