Let's get the ball rolling!
tapshoes replied to Emily'sDad's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Brad, It is paradoxical isn't it, that you don't have the problems and therefore may not be eligible for coverage for the surgery to prevent the problems! Ah well, I too did not have the multiple problems of many others. I went the self-pay route, and haven't regretted it. Good luck on your journey -
I absolutely concur; a second opinion is a good idea.

Things People Pass Off For Compliments and Things Skinny People Say That Piss You Off
tapshoes replied to j_war06's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Aubrie - I am so angry at your story! Write a firm letter to the stores manager and head office customer relations and head office CEO or whomever and speak up! I would also say that you have told this story on the internet site of MANY women, and although they mayn't all cease and desist shopping there, some will. (I sure as #### will). There is power in numbers, and no change is possible without people taking action. -
HI Eazes, You will discover everyone's experience is slightly different; there is no common uniform answer! For what it is worth: I went to the clinic at 11, operated on at 12 and out the door (walking slowly) by 4. This happened on a Friday and Monday (3 days later) I was back at my desk job. By Thursday I was back to walking home from work - about 30 minutes normally; about 45 minutes for the first week or so.

A fellow gardener - Hi! I too enjoy my time in the garden - but as I have recently moved into a home where the yard is one big weed-infested sloped yard with nothing in it, it will be a decade long adventure to put it into shape! I started this past week - I created a very small herb garden (oregano, basil, rosemary,, and pulled 3 green garbage bags of chickweed, dandelion, and other weeds. I've started some mass plantings of hosta's - just to quickly fill space until such time as I can get a real plan done. Happy diggin' in the dirt!

That is absolutely fantastic, Janet. Congratulations! You should be so proud! 9 months, and under goal - what a fabulous achievement! -
Am I right to be mad about this? Advice needed..........
tapshoes replied to nesser081982's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As MandyJo said the issue is NOT the surgery, the issue is breech of trust. This is deplorable, and (as far as I am concerned) actionable. I would absolutely go to the head of HR and the organization with the facts (not the emotions), and demand that at a minimum that you be accorded a formal apology. Good luck. -
Things People Pass Off For Compliments and Things Skinny People Say That Piss You Off

This thread has entertained and disturbed me. So many similar stories, so much pain, and yet we have all survived the thoughtless words and actions of others. I too have had decades of 'You would be so pretty, if you lost some weight" "You have such a pretty face" etc... The most recent example: the receptionist here is very thin. She is thin by both nature and by her lifestyle choices - and that is fine by me. She sincerely complimented me on my recent weight loss (thank you), and then finished it with 'when you get older like you though, weight isn't as important'. Where to begin...being overweight is acceptable once you reach a certain age? OLDER??? I'm 50 not 95. -
1st Annual National LAP-BAND Convention in Dallas Ft. Worth
tapshoes replied to CoachCher's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This is fabulous! I may slightly change my holiday plans to 'swing by' - I had been heading to California, but this could be a stop en-route. What a chance to mix and mingle - and a clothing exchange would be a great...assuming I could lug all my clothing on the plane! This may be the beginning of regional and then later international events...want to be planning coordinator, Coach CHer? -
Jamie that is fabulous! You must be so proud, and rightly so!

I concur with LilMiss...why not post some pics? Your posting is such a freaky co-incidence - for the first time ever, I have donated one of my quilts to a fundraiser. I too have made lots of them, and find the errors, irregular hand stitching, not perfect angled seams, etc. and have them either wrapped in plastic in a cupboard or given to friends (with an instruction to never let them be seen by 'real people'). However today I said there will never be perfection from a mere mortal, get over yourself, and do some good. Congratulations to you, and post some pics...I know of a few artists who sell all their artwork that way. The web is a great way to build a clientele without having to tote things around and setup shows etc.

I too have not reported in lately..nothing to report really. I had my 3rd fill and I have some restriction (finally). I am not at my 'sweet spot' yet, but definitely I am feeling restriction. And for those not there yet, it really does make it easier - I haven't had to exercise great physical and mental control to NOT to eat something above 1 cup of food. The band is doing its thing! Although I am somewhat disappointed in my weight loss since surgery Feb 22, the weight is going down, and now I think it should be a little easier. The fill nurse thought that beginning with the next fills it will be at 0.5 cc per fill - not too much which can result in de-filling, or an unhealthy weight loss (above 1-2 lbs/week). We shall see when I go for the next fill because she may have an argument from me! To everyone - we can do this. We will do this...come hell or ice cream!

I have never had any problems post-hysterectomy - with arousal or orgasm! And of course because the issue of pregnancy had been permanently removed, there was more spontaneity, fun, and frequency! Two years later this is still true.

I too appreciated gift cards - for bookstores especially. At my last teaching gig, as I was leaving that area forever, the class got together and donated in my name to my favourite animal rescue. That was so appreciated - I didn't have to pack it, tote it somewhere new, I didn't have to dust it, feed it, shelve it, or otherwise find space to store it. It was for me the best gift ever - supported a worthy cause and reflected an understanding of who I am as a person (rather than 'teacher').

I agree - this thread (while sometimes unecessarily volatile IMO) has been a fascinating read. Protecting is one thing; denying or damning another viewpoint is another. As the product of an atheist and a Christian, I was exposed to both views (and was taught to respect both). I was encouraged to attend a church - any church to appreciate the beauty and peace that the structures and the people offered. I attended christian (of all denominations) churches, a synagogue, and when I found one a mosque. Equally, I was encouraged to read science and learn how the marvelous entity (the body) has changed over millenia. I read everything - from religious, to science, to fantasy. I saw movies from the Wizard of Oz (is it fantasy, demonic or a parable), to religious (and I don't mean a light hearted Going My Way with Bing), and found pleasure in all - and never thought of any of them trying to 'convert me'. I thank my parents for not shielding me - I believe it has enriched my life and made me accepting of all view points, exposed me to wonderful literature, architecture, and movies. I can remember having great discussions with a minister asking difficult questions about different religions and the role of evolution on earth, extra-terrestrials, and the limits of knowledge. I had good discussions with religious and atheist friends about behaviour and punishment, evil and choice, angels and life after death and going to the white light. Every parent must do what they believe is right; I just hope parents present alternate views without hatred or ridicule. Life really is too short.

I wish I could excuse some of the language and/or formatting issues with 'they are young' or 'it is the result of texting'. However, alas, it is not. One of my activities at this time is editing a textbook for university students. The chapters are written by a number of esteemed educated (PhD) leaders, but you wouldn't know it. There are a few stellar communicators, but others have had my blood pressure on boil or laughing hysterically; some are truly appalling. And these are the ones teaching the courses across the country. I recognize that not everyone shares my desire for clarity of thought evidenced through presentation. However, a textbook that will be used to instruct those with less knowledge on a subject should be written as to be understood. I have a new found respect for editors, and a healthy dose of skepticism about the language skills required to graduate from university!

Congratulations - and welcome! Like the best parties, there is always room for another fun person!

In Which I Come out of Hiding and Show my Naked Belly
tapshoes replied to jnbwilds's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I watched the blog Becca. Very educational - maybe it should be on the introductory page as required watching for newbies! Gotta say though, just as all of our post-op liquid to real food transition instructions were different, so are our fill experiences. With me, there is no numbing injection, and then in less than 5 seconds the nurse has the injection done...no partially sitting up or moving arms or anything. Weird. Oh well, it is obviously working - you look fabulous, you have achieved a tremendous weight loss so far, and retained a great sense of humour. Thanks -
Is anyone else starting to lose their hair?
tapshoes replied to Mom2_4's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No, it is the reverse for me...I swear I have more hair growing faster! And my nails are turning into talons - I am cutting/filing them daily! Protein overload perhaps.... -
A week - a very long week!

I understand not searching for it - I too did not go around palpating my body after surgery. When I went for my first fill, the nurse found it within seconds - just below my belly-button. The nurse found it odd that I hadn't been looking for it - but then had me locate it and press it, and get to know how it feels. IT is not buried deeply so it is easy to find and feel.
-
That is fabulous...what an accomplishment! Whoohoo!!!

Post surgery and for about two weeks - mild constipation;used Milk of Magnesia (MOM) once or twice. After the mushie's stage, things reverted to almost normal. Whereas I used to have a BM daily, it is now every two days or so but no constipation or other issues. The physical body just hasn't accumulated the same amount of excrement because there is a lot less going in.

Flying affecting the band - I hadn't even thought of it. hmmm. I am flying next week (first time post banding) and although the duration is not bad 3.5 hrs, there will be a significant altitude change from here to my destination. So, perhaps my issues (if I have any) will be compounded - or maybe they will cancel each other out! I guess I will know next week. I hate the thought of my first holiday in about 3 years being less than ideal because of my band!
