  1. I'm 6 weeks out today, sleeved 11/11. I think my experience has been fairly uneventful compared to others. I haven't had any lasting reflux, my period was a week late, but now I'm back on the pill, I can tolerate almost any food (though sausages with casing and red meat are still tough), pain only lasted a few days and I was back at work a week later. Losing 1.5-2lbs consistently per week. For me, there were a few things that were tough to transition to: 1. Round-the-clock Vitamins (at least for me it FEELS like round the clock). I'm on 2 multis, 1 B12, a D3 and 2 calciums per day, and you have to space them out otherwise you won't absorb them correctly. But that's more annoying than anything. 2. Water. This is probably the ONE thing I really struggle with. My surgeons office suggested we follow the 60/60 rule - 60gs Protein daily (no prob), and 60oz water. I maybe get in 40oz average. Rarely 60 or more. Which leads to my next point: 3. Constipation! If you don't drink enough water, you'll get super constipated. I've never had constipation this painful in my life. But it doesn't happen everyday. 4. Like others that have posted, your brain won't change right away. I still get cravings, still sometimes take more food than I know I can eat, and I still think about food a lot. So that parts' tough.
  2. Does anyone who has BCBS received a Summary of Health Plan Payments after surgery? I received a few. One for the surgery itself, and two others for like, pathology and radiology services. These aren't bills, but it breaks down the cost of the services, how much BCBS is paying, and how much I'll owe. It actually says "your healthcare provider will bill you this amount" at the bottom. When can I expect the actual bill to come? I was sleeved on 11/11. It's great that they are giving me a heads-up I guess, but I'd rather just get the bill and be done with it.

    Just Approved

Congrats! It's such an awesome feeling isn't it?
  4. I asked my PCP a few years ago for one because I wasn't planning for kids anytime soon, but she said that since I've never had a child she recommended against it. Not sure what the reasoning is. I'm seeing her next month so I might bring it up again.

    Nausea

Hi everyone, Has anyone experienced any nausea post-op? I'll be 4 weeks out on Friday, been on soft foods since 11/22. Since Sunday I've experienced intermittent nausea during the day. Also more burping than usual. Not sure if it's because I restarted my BC pills Sunday, I stopped my omeprazole around the same time, a combo of the two, or something else entirely. It's more annoying than anything but sometimes if I drink Water it'll spark the nausea.

    Nausea

I've been a bad patient and really only took it consistently for about 2 weeks. Then took it a few times after that but really haven't taken it this week at all because I forget but also haven't had any reflux or anything. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. Hi everyone, I was sleeved 11/11. I'm 2 weeks post-op. My period was supposed to come this week, but it's no where in sight. No PMS symptoms or anything either. I'm definitely not pregnant! This is also the first time I've been off the pill in about 11 years, so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it. Anyone experience delayed/absent period after WLS?

    Delayed menstrual cycle?

My surgeon said I can go back on the pill as soon as I start my period... just playing the waiting game! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Ketosis?

Any idea how low or how intense one should be in ketosis for? I bought test strips. I was in ketosis for one week pre-op and I've been in ketosis ever since (sleeved 11/11). Like, really really dark on the test strips. Is there any danger in this? Should I work on getting out of it? My WLC has not mentioned anything about this topic so I'm not sure what I should be looking for. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Hi guys, I'm Day 5 post op and looking for some encouragement. I'm having a real hard time adjusting to this new stomach. I have crazy reflux; which I've never had before - it wakes me up at night. My stomach is so LOUD too. It's hard to get all my liquids and Protein in because nothing is appetizing. I think about broth and want to vomit. I know I'm ONLY five days out, and I think it's still too early to call it buyers remorse, but I'm seriously not having a great time recouping at home. Day 5 post op - struggling

Yes I'm on once daily omeprazole and it does help a bit. My Calcium carbonate Vitamin also helps. I just hope this isn't forever because I hate waking up with fire in my chest at 3am every night. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. How old were you? What was your starting weight, how much have you lost?
  14. Does anyone miss food, or eating food the way you used to? When did you get used to eating the "new" way? I have vsg scheduled for this Friday. I think it's really starting to hit me. Don't get me wrong, I want this. I've come this far, I'm not backing out. But I guess I've realized that I won't be eating the way I used to. I could easily see myself getting frustrated after being "done" with a meal after a few bites. Then again, I'm in the middle of my preop diet and I'm constantly hungry so maybe that's where these thoughts are coming from. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. Hi guys, I'm just curious as to how many people here are the primary cooks in their family. It's just me and my husband, but I do all the shopping and 95% of the cooking. He can make eggs, grill (which we only do in the summer) and easy stuff like a frozen pre-made skillet dinner. Handling meat is very scary for him (LOL). I'm not bitter, I enjoy cooking and it's been a hobby of mine for a number if years. My favorite is making big Sunday dinners for us and maybe a few friends. So that being said, I know a lot is going to change once I have VSG (scheduled for 11/11). For a while my husband and I will probably be eating different things, but after some time, I'm curious to see if the change in diet will change how I feel about cooking. I'm not "worried" that I'll miss the food itself, so-to-speak, but I guess that I'll lose a passion that I once had. For example, we are (way, way past) due to purchase a new cookware set, and I'm kinda sad and wondering if I should even bother since I'll kinda be just cooking for hubs and I'll be on liquids and soft foods for a while. For me, it's not just the food itself, but the creation and work that you put into the food that makes it enjoyable. Then again, this type of thinking is probably why I need WLS in the first place! Any insight or tips as to how I can handle this transition better?
  16. Hi everyone, My surgery is 11/11 and I'm not sure if I'm just freaking myself out, but I'm sort of intentionally reading up on all the bad post-op side effects that can happen. Though maybe this is a better place to look than Reddit For those of you who are post op, what was your worst symptom and when did it occur? For example, did you vomit a lot, how soon after surgery did it happen, and does iftstill happen to you?
  17. Hi everyone, I'm getting sleeved in 2 weeks! Starting pre-op diet Saturday (no idea what it entails - going in for NUT appt on Friday). I'm having a lot of anxiety about succeeding at this, and doing it right. Not so worried about the surgery and immediate post-op, because I know I can't do much about how my body reacts to a major surgery. It is what it is. But the weeks and months after... I'm worried I won't acclimate. I'm worried that I'll never re-learn how to eat food, or get bad reflux, or will get gallstones. I've done so much research on this beforehand, and I know what I'm SUPPOSED to do, but I'm scared I just will fail miserably in actually doing it. Really wondering how much of this I will learn naturally and how much of it I have to be 100% conscious of at all times. Every post-op person on these boards seem so... "with it" and that they've figured it all out. I'm afraid of not being one of those people. Can someone tell me if my fears are valid? Am I just crazy?
  18. That is what I'm most afraid of immediately after surgery. They ask in the pre-admission testing if you're prone to motion sickness and I said yes. I'm the person that actually uses the little barf bags on planes because my motion sickness is so bad. When I go in for surgery, I'm gonna ask them to give me all they got. I probably should be been more descriptive - I really want to know symptoms weeks and moths after VSG. Like, do you throw up if you eat too much? How did you acclimate to your new eating habits? Did you end up with reflux where you did not have it before?
  19. Hi everyone, My surgery is scheduled for 11/11. I was invited to a work conference across country 12/3 for 3 days. I would really love to go since every time I've been invited, something else has always come up to prevent me from going and it may be my last chance this year (budgetary reasons). It's 3 weeks post-op from my surgery. I'm going to talk to my surgeon about it, but just wondering what everyone else's travel precautions were? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Air travel post-op?

Do you think I'll still be restricted as to how much I can lift after 3 weeks? Supposedly I'll be good for soft/pureed foods on 11/22 (or at least that's when the scheduled appt for that is). I'm wondering what real solids I'd be able to eat (if any) by then. We're going to San Diego and it's always been a dream of mine to have a "real" street taco. Alas, I don't think that's gonna happen

    The wait....

Nov 11th sleever here! I also have similar fears. The only comparison I have to this is when I had my wisdom teeth removed and I was incapacitated for a week+, though not sure if that was the surgery itself or the pain killers I was on after. All I have left is pre-admission testing which includes a barium swallow test, and one more f/u with NUT, Psych, and my surgeon each. 38 days can't go by fast enough! I'm passing the time by enjoying the weather (October in New England is amazing), and trying to get a jump start on the pre-op diet. I've cut out carbonation and now I'm working on cutting caffeine and trying out the chewable Vitamins to see what I like. Trying to also lose a little weight pre-op so I'm going to the gym more and meal-prepping for the week, so I feel a LITTLE more productive about it instead of feeling like I'm just sitting around. Your date will be here before you know it!!

    November sleevers?

MA here - I found the group. If I join, can my other FB friends see that I've joined? I have a lot of family and friends on there that don't know and that I don't plan to tell until **after** everything's said and done
  23. Hi everyone, My VSG surgery is scheduled for Nov. 11 and I'm so excited! I just finished my pre-op "classes" - I guess it really hit me that I'll be on multivitamins for the rest of my life. Perhaps I should have done a little more research on it, but I thought multivitamins were temporary for sleevers because there isn't the same malabsorption like the bypass. My surgery center recommends a multivitamin with iron (2x/day), B12 (1x/day), Calcium (2x/day) and a vitamin D3 (1x/day). That's a lot! And I can't take them all at once because it affects the absorption. And I can't take them all at once because it affects the absorption. Will I ever be able to pare it down to maybe a single multivitamin a day? I currently take a multi everyday, so that's not a big deal for me, but that's just so many pills to remember.

Could I be denied if my BMI goes down?

I had my pre-op class today and checked the status with the insurance coordinators. I'm approved!!! Nothing has come in the mail yet but I had them write down the authorization number for me. I'm so happy! :) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
