Anyone feeling emotional yet? I have been happy and stable this whole week. Even the day of surgery - never felt sad, and never had the feeling of regret so many sleevers talk about. Just happy and thankful for this new beginning. Then this morning, wham! Cried for no reason. Had no clue why. Just had a good cry. Only thing I could think of was hormones or the fact that I stopped taking my pain med. I've heard that that is more the norm, but it was weird for me. Anyways, just sharing. Hope everyone's having a happy Sunday! Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App

  3. I am hypothyroid also and had surgery the same date as you. Yes, weight gain/stall is normal from what I've heard. I also got the added pleasure of having Aunt Flo visit on Friday. Plus feeling very bloated and constipated. Needless to say I've not wanted to feel dissapointed so havent weighed yet. My surgeon visit is Tuesday so will weigh in for my one week surgiversary. Keep us posted...we are all here to support each other Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App

    7/26/16 VSG Surgery, Anyone else?

I was sleeved 7/26/16. Feeling pretty good...a little bloated, but pain is manageable. Am still taking pain med ev 4-5 hours. Have not had a bowel movement yet. On a clear liquid diet so have about 4 oz. per hour of bone broth (higher protein) mixed with chicken broth (to add more flavor), Water, premier Protein, Vitamin water zero and sf popsicles. All are going down fine, but I cant wait till my pouch can take a little more at one time, because right now I have to get up at 7AM and drink consistently ev. 15 min. until 11PM in order to get my required 64 oz. in. Had my post op appt with GP yest. and all looked good. A cool thing about the visit was that my blood pressure that has been borderline high for the past year was much lower! So cool to see evidence that I am already getting healthier! Happy to have peeps to share this journey with! Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App

Maybe just stick to liquids for a little bit? And try a variety of liquids. I've heard of peeps not tolerating water, but find something else. I've been drinking a mixture of organic bone broth and organic chicken broth. (Bone broth has a lot of Protein in it, but I need the regular broth to add more taste to it) I heat it up, put it in a small thermos n then measure out my two tablespoon sips every 15 min. I've also tolerated premier Protein drinks, Vitamin water zero, milk, and sf popsicles so far. Keep trying, u r bound to find something. Did the hospital give you anti nausea pills? They sent me home with zofran. Its a pill that melts under your tongue. Tastes nasty, but works. Also, if it takes you much longer to get something down consistently I'd call your surgeon. Good luck and keep us posted. Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App

Mudgy6 All I can have for 3 weeks is liquids. How is the cottage cheese and yogurt feeling? Today I had a post op visit with my GP. My blood pressure before surgery has been consistently high for about a year now. Today it was 122/67! So cool to see signs that our bodies are getting healthier! Every day is getting better pain and energy-wise. Passing gas, but no movement yet. Have been taking about three walks a day to help move things along. Yay kgarrettsatx on the weight loss!! Anyone from Minnesota?

Just wanted to update that I had my surg 7/26 and everything went well. Used about 1/4 of what I packed. Nurses were great. All in all, I'm glad I did it and was a good experience (even though there was surgery and pain, lol). Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App

I showered as soon as I got home, but they did offer it to me in the hosp. I have a surgical glue and that stayed put. Ditto what chacha77 said about baths. Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App
  14. PRE SURGERY PACKING LIST - DIDNT NEED MOST OF IT. SCROLL DOWN FOR WHAT I REALLY USED Here's a packing list I've started, although I've heard alot of peeps say to pack next to nothing. Like, am I REALLY gonna want to put makeup on? *Gas X strips (although my surgeon said dont, the nurses will be mad if you self medicate) *toothpaste *toothbrush *biotene spray *listerene strips *those little disposable toothbrushes with paste on (colgate maybe?) *hair ties *Makeup? *Shampoo *Conditioner *Body wash *Magazines (Some said we wouldnt be able to focus on a book on pain meds) *Ipad/charger *Cell/charger *Ear buds (If u dont have a long charger cord bring extension cord) *Eye mask *Ear plugs *Chapstick *Lotion *Pads *Brush *Driver's license *Insurance card *Glasses *Cpap *Slippers *Nightgown? *Robe? *Pillow (for ride home) *Baby spoons *Go home comfy outfit *Undies *Flip flops *Heating pad? *Medications (bariatric folder says to bring) *Bariatric folder ACTUALLY USED FROM LIST Ok, so only needed/used a couple things on that list *Ipad/charger (my family used, I didnt) *Cell/charger *Lip balm *Drivers license *Insurance card *Glasses *Cpap *Heating pad - I used the heck out of hospital supplied heating pad. They wouldnt let me use mine, had to use theirs. That was what really got me to a number 4 on pain scale. Before that I was a 7. Definately ask for one as soon as in room. *Outfit to go home in - i brought a maxi dress, panties and padded bra tank for under. Couldnt stand the pressure of the tank under it, had to leave hospital bra-less.

  16. Congrats! Getting sleep is definately a challenge! During the discharge instructions the nurse was telling me - ok, u need to get x oz in. It will divide up to this many hours per day to accomplish that. If you take a nap, you'll have to stay up till x that night to complete liquids....That really hit home! Good luck on your journey. So, now that you are home, how are you feeling mentally? I am a little overwhelmed with trying to get all the liquid in, plus the timing of my meds. Other than that my mood is pretty stable. I could care less about food, which is an amazing feeling. Even watching the food commercials doesnt bother me. Anyone feeling sad, scared, anxious, happy or anything else? Sorry I haven't updated till now! I've been so exhausted from the pain meds. Couldnt even type a short text without being wiped out. Had my surg 730AM Tues. All went well. Woke up in recovery with nurse having to tell me loudly over n over to take a deep breath. I have sleep apnea and apparently i kept stopping breathing while in there. That was a major struggle cuz all I wanted to do was sleep. Didnt have the gas pain, but had alot of pain in my back so it took till about 5pm to get on top of that with Dilaudid(?) once that really kicked in i slept well. Even missed visitors that stopped by, along with my surgeons visit. All is going well. Passed my leak test n started liquids about 9AM yesterday. Could only use swabs up till then. They wouldnt let me do the biotene spray so had horrible dry mouth. Havent been hungry yet. Was released to go home about 5 last night. Now am trying to stay ahead of pain. Had a bad time getting to sleep last night and started to feel like i shouldve stayed in hosp one more night. But i took the pain, nausea and spasm meds and got thru it. My challenge now is to obviously get all the liquids in along with timing out all my meds (thyroid, wellbutrin, prilosec plus the pain meds) So glad everyone is doing well. I just keep holding on to the thinking that most peeps feel much better days 3, 6 and 14. I never get all 10 spirometer breaths in per hour. Thats been hard. Can only breathe till about 1500 so far. Never had the feeling of regret or buyers remorse we hear so much about. Am so thankful that i had this opportunity and am not looking back. Only ahead to much healthier and happier days! So lucky to have all of you to share the journey! Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App
  20. So sorry to hear the nurses were so dissapointing. I had surg Tues morn n couldnt have anything till after 8am wed when dye test showed no leaks. Couldnt even use the biotene spray ????. The no liquids thing was fine except for the horrible dry mouth i had. Could only use those sponge swabs. However, my nurses were great and all in all it was a good experience. Hope the rest of your recovery goes well! Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App
