    May 6th Banded-First Week Question

I was banded May 8th and I am having some gas discomfort. Have not had a BM yet. The last time I ate solid food was Tuesday, May 6th, and my last BM was Wednesday, May 7th. I spoke to my doctor yesterday and he said if I didn't have a BM by Tuesday, then we might have to do an enema, but he said a few days is nothing to worry about, especially after moving to an all liquid diet. Best talk to your surgeon, but I wouldn't be really concerned about it. I'm still on the Clear liquids and not hungry at all. Actually, I become like stuffed (like I just ate at a buffet or something) after drinking 1/3 serving of Protein shake. I had 1/2 of a sugar-free popsicle for lunch and it was delicious. Passing gas, the very rare times I can, is such a blessing. It relieves a great deal of the pressure. But it happens maybe once every eight hours or so.

    Two Days out ....

This sounds absolutely freaking delicious. I am going to have my fiance pick up some on the way home in preparation for the 15th when I can go to mushies.

Less Than 24 hours Post Op (My Lap Band Surgery)

Get all your food ready to go and line up your clothes for after the surgery as well as your entertainment. Makes life really pleasant during recovery.
  4. Pre-op guys-- This might help you. Everyone else's stories helped me. It is the link to my op story. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/less-than-24-hours-post-op-my-lap-band-surgery-62744/#post835579 I am so much better than I thought I'd be. Good luck all!!!

    Dr. V Pre-Op Questions

My friend is going with Dr. Kuwada witha surgery on June 2nd. She is on this board... wrestlersmom.
  6. My biggest problem was with his staff. In general, I liked Dr. Moran. However, this is a very PERSONAL decision. I encourage you all to see the Doctor you choose, but if you do not like him/her, CHANGE! This Doctor is very important and if you guys don't "click" you'll regret it later. Dr. Moran is a great doctor, just wasn't the right fit for me.

    I am scheduled for May

I'm kinda wanting mushies too, but I can't have them until 5-15. I am having the exact same experience with the incisions. For some reason my throat is still hurting where they tubed me. Dunno why. Hope that gets better soon.

    Two Days out ....

I was banded on the 8th (Thursday) and I am having a few small issues. My throat still hurts where they tubed me. I'm told that's normal. I ran out of pain meds so I called for a refill last night. I know some of you are saying you took none and this makes me feel guilty. It makes the tightness and gas pains go away, so I love me the hydrocodone. *sigh. I feel alright otherwise. Lil weak. But, I think that's just from reduced calories.

Less Than 24 hours Post Op (My Lap Band Surgery)

Stay strong and stick to a light diet pre-op. Don't think of them as "last foods." Hell, later on, if you want a bacon double cheeseburger, you can eat it, just 1/5 of it. Your band is coming up so soon. Good luck!
  10. I was weighed the day of surgery and I had lost a few pounds but I was never put on a pre-op diet. My doctor showed my family pictures of my liver. I had no fat around it. I was absolutely paranoid about my liver. Goes to show you... never know your situation on the inside... don't get yourself worried and just stick to it from here on out.
  11. $175 for my psych eval. I am insured but hadn't met my deductible yet so I had to pay out of pocket. No problemo. IMHO, 1200 sounds REALLY excessive.

    Gas Pain!!! UUHGGGG!!!!!

I am sending my dad out for GAS-X strips tomorrow. I got Gas-X chewable. Not helping. I'm walking a lot. Still feel like I am going to burst.

Less Than 24 hours Post Op (My Lap Band Surgery)

Thanks! There is actually this hard, plasticy material covering them. My doctor calls it glue and that's kind of what it feels like. Clear though. The stitches are on the inside. I am able to take a shower. They asked me to wait 24 hours so I took one his afternoon around 4PM. Felt great!

    One Week Away

Hey Andrea-- I had my surgery yesterday. I'm 24. Don't be freaked out. I was sooooo SCARED on Wednesday, was balling my eyes out yesterday morning. After the surgery, I felt better. Hell, I feel pretty good now. I think our age gives us a pretty strong advantage in the healing department, so yay for that! My main motivation for this surgery was so that I can get healthy enough to have children in the next few years. My fiance is really supportive of the decision. Life will go on pretty much unchanged except for the food part. I still love video games, partying, etc.

    Thinking about Surgery

    1. I got banded yesterday at 1PM, home by 4PM.... 2. I expect to be back in work (I too have a desk job) by Wednesday or Thursday. Sore, tender, sleepy, but to be honest, if I wanted to push it, I could be back by Monday or Tuesday. The pain is not intolerable in any way.
  16. I was banded yesterday. I chose to be banded because I can lose weight on diets like CRAZY... and gain it back in triplicate. But in all honesty, what is the point of a DIET. To lose the weight just so when you go off the DIET you can gain it back? This is a life style change, no DIET anymore, just portion control and reasonable food choices. It's been 24 hours and through all the soreness and gas pain, I still LOVE my band. Good luck on your choice.

    Considering it...

For number 3... I just had my surgery yesterday and am feeling good enough to mess around on the puter and stuff. I see myself back at work by Tuesday or Wednesday. For number 4, yes. The surgery wasn't anywhere NEAR as bad as I expected it.

    A Happy Place

I am a very high-strung person. I'm a hypochondriac. I usually am taking 1-4mg Lorazepam to get me through the day. I am calm right now. Collected. Reserved optimism and excited. I am no longer nervous about the surgery, no longer scared. In fact, I am more happy about being able to play Wii on my parent's new 52" LCD during my recovery than anything. I think what helped me down the nerves was going out and buying absolutely everything I will need for the first three weeks after surgery. Everything is all set up and ready to be consumed as needed. I set up the couch at my parents with all my favorite pillows for when I stay over there and I made arrangements for who will be taking care of me every day for the first 5 days after surgery. I think this really helped my nerves and helped me settle down. I am now actually on my very own pre-op diet (as my doctor didn't put me on one) and am consuming only liquids. Thank god the month long last supper is over. Lol. May 8th. Only 2 more days of work after today. Lol.
  19. Hey all-- I am going under the knife in about 48 hours, and I prepared a letter for those taking care of me, as it will be done in shifts for the first 72 hours or so. Lol. My dad on Thursday, my fiance on Friday, and my mom on Saturday. After that, I'm hoping not to need care and attention, but if so, who am I to complain. Hehe... Anywho, here is a little memo/reference guide I put together for them in case any of you would like to use. Make sure to modify for yourself, as I'm sure your individual surgeon's orders are different. It's good for a general overview type of thing.
  20. Hello All You Sexy Bandsters! I'm getting banded in 6 days! Yay! DH and I went out to Vitamin Shoppe last night and spent $176 to get prepared for the big day. Along with the DaVinci dissolving B12, liquid Multivitamin (VitaminShoppe brand), and Chewable Calcium, we got 8 different types of Protein for me to try. I got a big container of Designer whey (Chocolate) because it comes strongly recommended, RTD Muscle Milk (Cookies and Cream), RTD MetRX (Peanut Butter Fudge), as well as an assortment of others I can't remember now, the most interesting flavor being "banana Walnut Fudge." I'll post a review of all of them once I get going. I'm not trying them till next week when I need them, as they cost way too much money. Lol.

    Letter To Your Caretakers

    OOOOOooooo! Grats on your approval!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:lol::lol::lol::lol:

    Praying for Patience

I FEEL your pain on this. I thought that waiting for approval was the most devastatingly stressful thing EVER. I'm 48 hours from surgery and I find I am now sick to my stomach with anticipation. For some reason, across the board, office staff at gastric clinics don't seem to GET it. This is LIFE ALTERING for us... a little thing like insurance approval becomes completely ALL consuming. We can't focus, think straight, anything, until we know for sure. I'm sure her vacation was important, but the least she could've done is followed up with a more definite timeframe or had her assistant do so.
  23. Ha! This is ridiculous. My brother calls me Coley  My name is Nicole too. You'll need a fax number... check out efax.com or fax2mail.com or just get your RI doctor to fax the medical release form to your current doctor and you'll have to go in and fill it out.
  24. Thank you. I am excited  No, the Doctor's can't obtain them themselves because of HIPAA. I have TONS of family members that work in the medical industry and HIPAA is a blessing and a curse. It makes communication a LOT harder. You will have to sign a medical release form to get your pediatrician to send the records to your surgeon. Pain in the butt.

    Can I do this?

No. Your provider needs to submit it with the proper codes. I'll be honest with you, I was with a doctor that was slow, unresponsive, etc, like that so I switched doctors. YOu need them through every step of the process and you don't deserve to be strung out for 3 weeks.
