Considering a lap band - scared after reading this forum!
SiSSi829 replied to Elrix's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I hated my lapband ( placed in 4/2011) BUT I really believe it saved my life almost 4 yrs ago. I had my 1st slip 4 months post op due to losing 50lbs. I could feel my food funneling down, making a stop and sometimes even feeling the food getting stuck in my band, feels kinda like swallowing a rock or something. I kept insisting to my dr that there was something not right about but he kept assuring me that I was fine. That it was just that I was eating inappropriately. I started to get really bad heartburn around 12/2013. For about 6 months I would have to go to the ER at least twice a months due to these heartburn episodes until finally I told the ER tech to give me an X-ray because I’d been throwing up for 4 days straight and I wanted to check on my band. I got discharged. I received a call at 3:30am from the ER asking me to come back ASAP cause there was a mass the size of a grapefruit in the middle of my chest. So after being admitted to the hospital and spending almost a week there I really didn’t catch on the oncologists and the students coming into my room. Not once did I think “ why are they here?” I checked myself out of the hospital because my mother-in-law was in her final moments ( stage 4 metastatic pancreatic cancer) and our youngest at the time was running a fever. I went down to get all my medical records and was fine for about two weeks which in the time frame my mother-in-law passed. I had another one of my severe heartburn episodes and decided to drive a bit further this time to another hospital where I was caught in mid air by a nurse due to my fainting from the pain. I woke up in a hallway of the ER where a dr asked me what I was feeling, I handed her my records, asked her for something for the pain, passed out and woke up admitted to the hospital. The next day I was once again surrounded by an oncology team that told me that they needed a biopsy of the mass because they considered that just by looking at it via X-ray it could potentially be a stage 4 mass. (Yay me!) 🤦🏽♀️ thank GOD I had my biopsy done the next day, had results three days later. Not stage 4 but stage 2 of a thymoma ( that are usually benign, but not mine) aka thymic carcinoma and due to its size I’d have to start chemo. And to make my longer story short-ish, I thank my annoying little device that I hated so much because if I wouldn’t have had that 1st slip and that 1st experience I would have never asked for that X-ray to check for another slip of my band. -
Morning sickness aka all day sickness
SiSSi829 replied to courtb86's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Saltine crackers. Ginger ale works for some. That can last for a while, though some women just experience it for the 1st trimester. I had “morning” sickness at any given time of the day up until I was like 7 1/2 months. Water made me nauseous too. -

Hello. I had my gastric sleeve conversion surgery (from a lapband) on 6/15/16. On the second day of my surgery I was confused on weather I had gas pains or if I was hungry. I was discharged on that Friday but the whole time that I was in the hospital I could drink all the 4oz cups that they brought in to eat. I saw my dr a week later and he chewed my head off telling me how much he regretted doing my conversion surgery because I had a piece of bacon, 3 tablespoons of Cereal and milk because I was feeling so very hungry, weak, dizzy ect and eating a bit of something or other took the edge off. I'm actually at the point of regretting getting this second surgery. Feeling depressed at times and all I've lost is 20lbs. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
What's the every day difference? Band to bypass
SiSSi829 replied to onmyway11's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I really can't compare yet since I'm almost a month post op from my sleeve. BUT I can talk about the lapband. I had it done in early 2012. I lost 50lbs in about 2-2 1/2 months which caused it to slip and I had to get it repositioned. I totally agree with that annoying "stuck" feeling. We'd go to eat and I had my hubby n kids watching me the whole time to make sure I didn't put my "in stuck" face . It was really hard to be the center of attention at the dinner table. When I did get stuck the only way to feel better was to wait it out ( pretty painful moments) or go and make myself puke. I'd txt my dr and I would tell him that something was wrong because the 1st thing they tell u is that with a band it's NOT RECOMMENDED TO VOMIT but it's the only thing to alleviate all that's going on ( shortness of breath, chest pain/compression, the "yo-yo-ing of the food, the sharp feeling while the food goes down) all at the same time. Overall I lost about 80lbs with the band. I kinda got used to the discomfort and figured out a way to word around it I guess. What's weird is that I thank god that I did have this band, because of this band and the going through the discomforts I noticed that my "stuck" feeling wasn't at the pit of my stomach (or more anatomically correct, right under my breast bone) but it was now dead smack in my mid chest area. So I started telling my dr, he kept telling to eat smaller bites and to eat slower this started 12/31/2013 I was literally at the ER every month; twice a month with this "heartburn" that was killing me making me nauseous and making my "stuck" feelings 10x's worse Looong story short, I went to the ER and I told the nurse that I had this band and I wanted to have an X-ray done since I'd been throwing up for 4days straight couldn't even keep Water down. So they did this X-ray, discharged me 12 hrs later with the all famous OMEPRAZOLE RX like they've done every other time that I went. I get a call at 3am (after being discharged ) and the ask me how long would it take my to be back at the ER and I'm just like why?! What's the problem.... so they tell me that I have to came back because the dr was just going over my X-ray and found a mass the size of a grapefruit in the middle of my chest and they neede to admit me for more tests and a biopsy. Conclusion, the band worked for me, I guess. I had all the messed up "stuck"feelings u have BUT in a indirect way it also save my life. I chose to get the conversion because I didn't like the overall feeling that the band brought and i gained 70lbs due to all the chemotherapies and meds and whatnots my dr had to open my band so u could go through my cancer treatments without having all the other junk too (also I had a slip too) So here I am on another of my many journeys WLS 6/15/16 Miami,Fl 33yrs /5'6" highest weight 300s in 2002-03 lowest weight 193 in 2014 -
So emotional!

In Friday I'll be a month post op. I know what u're feeling the first week was bittersweet. While I was in the hospital (2days) I was fine but when I went home something just clicked. My hubby is very supportive. He set up a table next to a recliner where he put all my mess and in the morning he'd put my Jello and broth but still just watching tv i noticed how 80% of the commercials are about food and that just pissed me off and caused me to make horrible choices not even 2wks post op. BUT not all days will be bad. They do eventually get better. Trust me. Hang in there. If u have any religious tendencies or practices or whatnot. Pray, sage, chant, crystal-curei it, (what ever that case may be) on it. WLS 6/15/16 Miami,Fl 33yrs /5'6" highest weight 300s in 2002-03 lowest weight 193 in 2014 -

Wow! That's crazy and kinda scary cause my dr also told me that I was dehydrated but I didn't have that dry young/mouth feeling nor pain in my extremities, they determined I was dehydrated cause of a very dark yellow urine and strong smell too. The nutritionist told me that I have to drink at least 7 bottles of water a day. WLS 6/15/16 Miami,Fl 33yrs /5'6" highest weight 300s in 2002-03 lowest weight 193 in 2014 -

Yes, plain water was the hardest thing for me to drink for a while. Try decaf tea, Herb tea, crystal light, etc. Also, try different temperatures. It was easier to sip room temperature for a while, too. It gets better. Just keep sipping. I've tried with other drinks and the it's the same think. So I thinks it's just me drinking to fast or too much but I did notice however the other day I had to take a pill and I had a bottle of water in the car (mind u, I live in Florida) and I took a gulp of that and nothing. I didn't feel a thing and according to my car the heat index was of 105. WLS 6/15/16 Miami,Fl 33yrs /5'6" highest weight 300s in 2002-03 lowest weight 193 in 2014 -

I was giving Omeprazole for after my surgery but I had prior gastric issues ( G.E.R.D) but I really haven't felt it much after either of my recent surgeries. BUT I have read that instead of feeling that actual burning sensation in my esophagus and it's related areas heartburn can feel like hunger who knew lol And a recently I tested theory and it was right. I feel hunger and I took a Zantac and and hour later I was fine WLS 6/15/16 Miami,Fl 33yrs /5'6" highest weight 300s in 2002-03 lowest weight 193 in 2014 -

Well I just got out of my Drs office, guess he was more relaxed 2day. I've lost a total of 23 lbs in 23 days. Today was pretty productive u got to see what my stomach looked like before and after surgery and it's really small. I got to talk to my Dr and the nut and they advanced my diet yo full liquids and I'm happy about that cause I guess I'll be getting more consistency in my stomach. Overall I got to ask questions that were answered and I got some insite on some workouts that I can do at home or at the gym. I was having some rough days but today I woke up more relaxed and trying not to so annoyed with everything and everyone. Once again I thank every1 that has something to say no matter what it may be and here's to another day on this journey WLS 6/15/16 Miami,Fl 33yrs /5'6" highest weight 300s in 2002-03 lowest weight 193 in 2014 -

I get the tough love approach but that doesn't work one every1. I mean how many of us went through the tough love phase while we were gaining the weight and lo and behold here we are. (Change the "we's" to the "I/me" cause I don't want no drama) I knw of people that had the phases in middle school, high school and through most of their young adult life go through the rude comment and harsh remarks and it didn't especially coming gon family who is supposed to be our/my support system. But anywho, I'm here for insite not approval. I'm here information not "pats on the back". No1 likes to be attacked but evry1 expects me to take the "tough love" like a champ and not have anything say. Oh well. It is what it is. Yeah that's the bad part. I don't either. It's sad but true. But hey it's just the beginning, it can't be all horrible. I've read on another page of folks that eat 6-7 jellos and 10popsicles and over here like ok. Uummmm, I thought that we were supposed to learn how to eat smaller portions and how to control ourselves but I guess that's the way it's supposed to be. Eat what as much as u want as long as it's what directed?! I dunno. I'm just confused. BUT don't take any advice from me plz. I haven't made the choices with my new stomach, I'm not proud but it's done and I've moved on and I'm trying to do what I'm supposed to do. I guess I'll just keep reading or YouTube-Ing and see if I learn something. it's just this thick consistency of funky smelling (supposed to be orange flavored) goop. I drink it because I have to, because it really did help with all the weakness, drowsiness and stuff that I was feeling but it didn't help with the hunger that in feeling. Which I've read that might be dehydration or reflux and some other stuff. I knw I don't have to defend myself from no1 but at the end of the YES I made a mistake.l but then again I could've just sugarcoated the whole thing and never mentions the damn piece of bacon that really wasn't big enough for this whole fiasco BUT it's never what u say it's how u say it. Then again I really could careless what any of u think of me cause like I said no1 knows me and I can turn around right now and stuff my face and die and not one of u would knw nor care! It's not the point. My point is that "tough love" doesn't work with every1. Besides all I can say right now is THANK YOU all. I can just skip all the negative comments and move on to folks that can point me to YouTube video or a website where I can educate myself since no1 has the curtesy to talk like human beings without putting their two cents in. My life doesn't influence yours in the slightest way. I can take some1saying something to me and I can get some insight on it but don't expect a gracious response when you're on here trying to make me feel like I'm an idiot over a HUMAN MISTAKE and no I will not ignore either because I did make a post for a reason far from having someone tell me something that I already knw ( that I was wrong) so how many times is everyone gonna tell how stupid my decision was?! I got the memo. No need to retouch again again on the subject do t u think? The mistake was done and I'm trying to move forward in the best way I knw how.
