I was banded in Mexico in Feb and still have not had a fill because I really don't know where to go. I was told it would be no problem to find a fill doc. The only ones I can find are in Detroit or Montreal. I would be going alone and am debating whether or not to just go back to Mexico which is free fills but the airfare costs. I don't really want to drive + the price of gas and most likely a hotel room + the cost of a fill. Anyone going through this crap? I feel like I wasted a lot of money cos I really haven't lost much either. My band is empty and now I can almost eat as much as before. I have to go soon. Anyone considering Mexico should really figure out wher they will get their fills.

Is there anyone else? I'm trying to get a fill without having to go back to Mexico for it. Help?

I was also banded in Mexico and have only had one fill in almost 2 yrs. Where are you going for your fills...Troy? Please tell me more. -
I'm looking for anyone who does fills on Mexican patients in Toronto. Anybody know anyone near or in Toronto?
-
Yes! Please!!! I need a fill in Toronto desperately. Please get back to me asap! I was banded in Mexico in 02/08 and have only had 1 fill. I didn't realize it was going to be so difficult to get filled here. Much Appreciated
-
No I did not as all of a sudden his price went up to $500 plus transportation & accomodations so I have not had a 2nd fill.Very frustrating!

I was banded in Mexico and can't afford to kepp going back for fills. I was banded in Feb 08 and have only had 1 fill. I didn't realize it was going to be so hard to find a fill. I'm very frustrated as I paid $8,000 and have only lost 20lbs. I know I need a fill but can't seem to find anyone here who will do them for a reasonable cost. Do you know if your nurse is still taking patients? I live in Barrie, Ont. Any help with this would be much appreciated.
-
Make sure you have a fill doc lined up and you know the cost! I can't find a fill doc in Ont. I was told that Dr Cristou in Montreal would do them for $100 consult and then another$100 for the fill but after 6 wks of correspondence, sending op reports & x-rays by mail, they finally called me with an appt and all of a sudden the price went up to $650. Do your homework!!! I'm going back to Mexico for a fill...it's cheaper to fly down
-
I was banded in Mexico and cannot find anyone in Ont who will do fills. It took me 6wks of corresponding with Dr Cristou's office in Montreal only to find out that I have an appt but suddenly the price changed from $350 to $650! I said forget it! It will cost me another $300 to get there and then a hotel room. That's $1000. If I go back to Mexico it would be cheaper and at least have a mini vacation. Does anyone know of a fill doc or nurse anywhere in Ont or close that will take Mexico patients with a J&J band?
-
I was banded by Dr. Aceves on Feb 13/08 but still haven't had a fill. I'm still trying to find a fill doc close to me. I'm waiting to hear back from a doc in Montreal. It has been very frustrating! I haven't gained but I have only lost the 15lbs that I orginally lost the first month after surgery. If this doc in Montreal won't take me then I will have to go back to Mexicali. How long did you go between fills and how many cc's did you get? I have the J&J band. I really wish I had researched the whole fill thing a bit more. I live in Ont and if you were banded in Mex, they won't touch you.

Keeping it a secret
Bandsternan replied to Chellets's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told everyone I had gall bladder surgery...same scars. It explains a lot and no one even questions -
Where r u? Fofo I wouldn't mind a travelling companion if u r going to Montreal. Juney...I haven't told anyone because they would just tell me that I should go to WW and join a gym. everyone thinks it's ridiculous to have surgery. I don't want or need their judgement so I've chosen to keep it to myself

Of course you shouldn't drive after anesthetic but I'm sure you can drive as soon as it wears off like the next day or two. They made me get up and start walking an hour after surgery. I was only given Tylenol so maybe some people had stronger pain meds? I was fine to drive the next day. -

I have not told a soul so far. It's possible. I even flew to Mexico for my surgery while my daughter looked after my house & pets for a week. I told her I was going for a vacation. So far so good. I didn't want to tell anyone either. You'll be fine. I was terrified but everything was fine. God luck with your journey. -

People who don't know I've been banded think I have an eating disorder!
Bandsternan replied to Just Banded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't told a single soul, not my friends, family, kids, hubby....absolutely nobody! Everyone thinks I had gall bladder surgery and that I now have problems eating. Don't know what I'll do if I ever have to have my gall bladder out but it's working for me. I did mention the LB to a few different people and got a negative reaction. I was only 190lbs so I wasn't quite "fat enough for surgery" I'm only 5' tall and my mother died at 52 of a stroke and my father had a quadruple bypass by the time he was 50. I'm 43 and desparate to lose the weight. I have become a hermit over the last 10yrs because I gained 70 lbs after having a near fatal car accident and becoming depressed because I couldn't do the things I used to. I am limited in my activity level but the scale can't keep climbing. Whenever I see anyone I haven't seen for a long time, I get wow you put on a few! Thanks, I hadn't noticed! I can't wait to start feeling good about myself again. I love this forum. It's nice to know I'm not alone. -
Just wondering...have you gone for a fill yet? I'm still trying to figure out where to go. Detroit or Montreal? I haven't told anyone so I have to go on my own. I may even go back to Mexico but right now I'm getting very discouraged. I have only lost about 15lbs but my band is empty. I know I have to get a fill soon or else this was just a waste of money. Anyone have to go soon? Anyone gone to Detroit? I can't afford another $3000 to go to Toronto. At least if I have to go back to Mexico, I would make it into a vacation to make it worthwhile. Not sure what the hell to do?! Any suggestions?

Wow!! Everyone is doing so well!! I was banded on Feb 13th and My band is empty and was told no fill until 8 wks out. Well I can't eat very much anyway because I get major gas pains. I'm a lower bmi so I had no pre-op diet either. I've only lost about 10 lbs so far. It's very discouraging. I am doing the protein first thing and usually have about 3oz. I am really having a hard time with the gas. I'm trying to eat slowly and chew but still end up with pain. I take the gas x and rolaids gas relief chews. I don't eat any starch at all except popcorn and sometimes those Quaker mini crisps. Just wondering if anyone else is having a hard time with gas? I'm starting to wonder if something is wrong or if I'm just swallowing too much air.

I can't find anyone to do fills on Mexico patients in Ont. I was told that the Surgical Weightloss Centre will do them for $3000. Yeah right, that`s ridiculous! I have a J&J band and he doesn`t fill them. There`s a Dr Nicholas Cristou in Montreal that will do them for $100 a fill + initial consult of $100. I have to go for my first fill soon. I was banded on Feb 13. Anyone else know of anyone closer

Who Should I Pick In Mexico?
Bandsternan replied to queenie's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Dr Aceves in Mexicali is a wonderful, caring person as well as a great doctor. I researched every doc in Mexico for the past year and I finally decided on Dr Aceves. His credentials are exemplary. My experience was awesome. I went by myself and they took such good care of me. It was almost ridiculous how much they fussed over me. I would send my own daughter to him in a heartbeat. Research! Research! Research! I'm glad that i chose Dr. Aceves. -

Keeping it a secret?
Bandsternan replied to Fluffy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Crazy but true...I haven't told a soul. Not my boyfriend, my grown kids or my friends or family. I am embarassed that I had to resort to surgery. I already have self-esteem issues and don't want to deal with any more guilt. I did this for me...to feel better about myself and to possibly live a healthier life. I went to Mexico, scared to death, all by myself and I had the surgery. I told everyone that I was vacationing with a girlfriend, told her not to call my house that I was having a fling for a week. When I came back, I told everyone that I had a gall bladder attack and had to have it removed. That explains my diet for now and I've got the scars to prove it. It's my decision. I guess I will tell my family dr. I have no intention of telling anyone. If I hear of anyone needing information, I will definitely share all I know but would just say that my girlfriend had it done. I do actually have a friend that had it done. I might tell her but I might not in case she slips up and tells someone. I only had my lb on Feb 13. I have only lost 10 lbs. I think I will be a slow loser because I only have 60lbs to lose. I'm hoping that talking with other bandsters on this forum will give me the support that I need. -
The Weightloss Surgery Clinic in Mississauga does fills just not J&J, I think it has to be Inamed. Good luck.
