I'm getting wayyyyyy ahead of myself since I'm not being sleeved for 13 more days, but I like to plan ahead. Is plastic surgery eligible for FMLA and/or Short Term Disability?

I've been approved for STD for my sleeve already. I'm wondering if I'll be eligible for it when I decide to have plastic surgery (hopefully late next year).

My initial surgeon at O-Band Center in Brooklyn led me to Dr. Illan and BariatricPal Team MX. I was going through the 6 appointments mandated by my insurance. On my 3rd visit, I met my surgeon for the 1st time and asked him about the pros and cons of the band and sleeve since I still had not decided which one I wanted. He gave me 2 statistics on average weight loss percentages and then told me to go home and do my research. I was taken aback by his answer. Yes, I fully intended on doing my research, but I wanted to hear from an actual doctor (MY doctor). His answer and demeanor coupled with several other things that left me feeling very uncomfortable about O-Band Center, led me to the internet. I don't remember what I started off researching, but eventually it led me here, and thus, to Dr Illan. I emailed O-Band yesterday to cancel my remaining appointments. :-)

I'm having my surgery two weeks from today with Dr. Jalil Illan in Mexico. It is costing me $4,399 + airfare. My experience so far has been good; my emails and questions are promptly answered, and when I call, an actual person answers rather than getting a voicemail. I don't know yet if there will be a single incision, but I can certainly let you know in approximately two weeks. :-) There were no qualifiers that I'm aware of, but I did have to fill out a 2 pg questionnaire.

I'm the Store Manager of two retail stores (clothing). I'm on my feet for 8 hours a day. I move boxes weighing approximately 40lbs, climb ladders, disassemble and re-assemble walls using hardware. Although I can delegate a lot of these tasks, I can't count on delegating everything 100% of the time. Also, can I use FMLA for the surgery or no? Thanks in advance for your input!

How long do I have to wait to take a shower after surgery? 4 years ago, I broke my arm and had a plate and screws put in my arm. I had to wait several days before I could shower due to the incision. Do I have to wait again?

You just described me to a T. Glad I'm not the only person who does this.

Where in Brooklyn are ya? And how's that going? Do you have to do a liquid diet before that too or do you just go for surgery? I live in Bensonhurst. Moved here 3 years ago, and I love it. Do you live in Flushing? I start the liquid diet tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to the 1st couple days, but I know it gets easier after that.

I was told to take off 4 weeks due to my job. I work in retail and do heavy lifting.

My surgeon recommends taking 4 weeks off due to the restrictions on lifting 40lb boxes. I'm actually looking forward to this time off. I live very close to the beach, so I plan on soaking up some rays :-)

Can I use a menstrual cup, or is it pad only?

I keep reading about the need to walk after surgery in order to alleviate gas pains. Are we talking about farting or some other type of gas?

FYI regarding Biotin... It doesn't just promote the hair growth on your head if you know what I mean. Your pubes are going to grow like crazy. You may want to look into finding a salon that provides a frequent customer discount on Brazilian waxing. Either that, or start buying your razor blades in bulk at a warehouse club.
