  1. Hiya...I think I've just realised that I must be losing more centimeters than weight and that's why it's not showing up on the scales. I have just managed to lose 2kgs FINALLY after my last fill (currently at an even 5ml) so I'm very happy with that, but that is the first amount of weight I have shifted for a good 2 months now...that being said, my pants are all falling off me!! I decided I would measure myself and now I will only be looking at my measurements rather than standing on the scales. I feel as though I'm losing weight, but when the scales tell me otherwise - its very discouraging. It is somewhat fascinating though as I don't do a heap of exercise...just the general housekeeping, shopping etc that is associated with being mum. Anyone else lose more cm's/inches rather than weight??

    Meats ?

I don't even try eating steak anymore. No matter how small I make it and how slow I eat it, I always end up getting stuck. I do attempt chicken sometimes, but I might have 2 or 3 bites and thats it. Fish is fine. I am basically living on minced meat. I make stirfry's with it, rissoles, shepards pie, meatballs, spag bog w/ vegies, satay's....I will be starting to take my Iron tables more regularly now though, went to the hairdresser today and she asked me if I wasn't eating red meat because the top of my hair has become very thin...I couldn't believe she actually knew that I had stopped eating it. Hmmm...it is hard to get the iron w/ just mince. Oh, I am also growing silverbeet/spinich in my garden which I have started to eat everyday to get some iron in too. I miss my steak :wink2: lol

    Worried about my mum...

my mum also had the lap-band put in a week after me. Wednesday night I get a call from my sister (they live 3hrs away) saying that mum had "muscle pains" in her chest and between her shoulder blades and was being sent to the emergency room. They did a CT scan but couldn't see what was wrong so they transferred her to the hospital that she had her surgery at. Her surgeon has decided to send her back into surgery today to see what is going on but they suspect a slipped band. Is it possible to just re-adjust the band or replace it or do the band have to be taken out when it has slipped?? I am really really worried about her and her health is my first and foremost concern - if they have to take it out then so be it, but she is hoping that they will be able to leave it in and just adjust it. Neither of us have any idea what's going on and I live so far away, I can't just dragged my littlies and leave. (However I will be going to see her on Monday). Anyone had or know of someone who's had a band slip?? What did they do?? Did it get fixed or did it have to be taken out?

    Worried about my mum...

Hi girls...we are being very supportive of her, we feel as though it's going to be easier for her to keep on track this time as she has had 4 months with the band in (she knows portion sizes now) and because I am still banded, I am going to help her along aswell...she is in a lot better spirits today which is good to see! :tongue2: I am just glad she is feeling better! Her band didn't slip. It was infected. They think partly due to her body rejecting it, but it became inflamed etc due to her vomiting since her last fill. She had her last fill about 2.5weeks ago (upto 6mls total) and she was having trouble eating anything, constantly pb'ing and sliming. I told her she should get some taken out, but her, being her though she was ok and she was getting used to it. Unfortunately though the last straw came when she tried to eat a piece of bread and then she started vomiting continuously (weds night when she was sent to the emergency). The surgeon has said that it would have taken a while for it to become as infected as it was, so for her not to blame herself. The band isn't meant for everyone, but she still doesn't regret getting it and is still super supportive of me aswell ..so this was just a setback, but she and I will get there!! Thanks again for all your kind words, the last few days have been very stressful...it's hard to know u'r mum is in hospital and you just can't get there . Going tomorrow to finally see her!!!

    Worried about my mum...

Heya thanks for your comments , mum went into surgery last night and unfortunately they had to remove the band. She is very upset and feeling like a failure now as they have said they won't be able to put another one in because the whole area was infected. I am upset for her but so glad it was found when it was. Thanks again for your support.
  7. It's now been 4 months since I was banded and I haven't been losing much weight at all...I'm still at 129kgs which is what I was a month ago. It's hard not to get depressed about it. At my last appointment (exactly a month ago) I only got filled to 4cc in my 10ml band (he only put in .3ml). I am feeling some restriction but obviously not enough. I just really want something to look forward to - my 1yr goal was to get down to 113kgs which was my weight at my wedding 3yrs ago, so that's another 16kgs I have to lose which seems like it's taking forever. How much weight did you lose at the end of 1yr? I need some inspiration
  8. Ok so I had my third fill today...my doctor asked me how much I wanted (I had 4cc in a 10cc band) and I said "just a little"...he called me a chicken and so I relented and said "ok, put in however much you think I should have"...and he put in 1.5ml which brought it upto 5.5cc total. He gave me my little cup of Water and told me to hang around until I had finished it. Well I couldn't finish it. I could swallow the water but could still feel in there in my chest so I asked the receptionist/nurse etc what they thought I should do and they said maybe I should get a little taken out. So I hung around and he took me back into his office...I said I think i needed some taken out and he said to me "well, if I take any out, you won't lose weight. You know that it's just like this because it is swollen atm from jsut having it done and it should settle down within a couple of days"...anyway, I still said I would like at least .3 taken out so he took out .5 and I tried drinking the water again and this time it went down a lot easier...I can still feel the restriction - I just tried having 1cup of thin pumpkin Soup and I couldn't finish it. Has anyone else gone against their doctors recommendation for the fill amount? I feel incredibly stupid atm because I want to know that this is going to make a difference but I just couldn't see myself losing any weight at all if I couldn't even swallow some water. Anyone???
  9. Hi Annie, just touching base - it's been a while :) How are you doing? How is the weight loss? I have just been filled to 5mls so I'm feeling some restriction now! YAY! Struggling with decision making re: foods I should be eating versa foods I want to be eating LOL...but I'm getting there. Hoping to see some results soon! :) Is that a new avatar photo? You look fantastic!!! Hope your well :)

  10. OMG, I honestly cannot believe how well you have done!! It feels so achievable seeing someone who lives close to me lose so much weight. Which doctor did your lapband? I had/have Kevin Dolan @ Joondalup. He has been fantastic for the most part :)...I read that it only took you 7 months to get to your goal weight? Is that right?? How on earth did you do that? I am struggling at the moment to not think of myself as a "failure" due to the fact that I have been the same weight for almost a month now :( I have just been filled to 5mls and am now feeling a good restriction so I'm hoping the weight is going to start dropping again now. What size is your band? What level are you filled at (was your sweet spot?) Sorry for bombarding you with all the questions lol...I'm truly inspired by yoU!!!

Tell me why you love your band.

I love my band because for the first time in my life I can honestly say that I feel full after eating. I hate my band because it prevents me from eating what I want ...example....warm fresh baked bread with butter.... I love my band because it prevents me from eating what I want ...example....warm fresh baked bread with butter. LOL... I hate my band because it makes me feel so uncomfortable and painful when I get something stuck... I love my band because it is a physical reminder that I shouldn't have tried eating what I just ate to make me get stuck... I definitely have a love hate relationship with my band....I'm hoping once I have got the hang of it, It will be a mutual love relationship!!!

How much in your first year?

Thanks everyone for your comments....I will admit I am struggling at the moment with my food choices, I tend to go for the foods that I think/know will go down easiest which I know is not the right thing to do, but I am working on it now that I have realised that is what I have been doing. I am happy with my weight loss so far, I am happy losing gradually as long as it does come off eventually - just feels like forever!! The last fill I had has definately helped so I feel as though I am on my way again now...hope it lasts!! Thanks again - your all an inspiration to me!

Did I do the right thing???Help!

Thanks again everyone for all your support. I honestly feel as though I did do the right thing, especially after hearing what you all had to say!! I will definately be sticking to my guns again next time too!! Thankyou!!
  14. TeganRheana

I am doing this for me.

When we slip up and try to eat a couple of chips (fries) from one of our kids meals and spend the next 15 mins trying not to bring it back up, have a cry and then tell yourself "I'm doing this for me!!!!"
  15. OMG!!! I can only hope!!! That is fantastic!! I bet you feel awesome :frown:

Wow! Just rec'd the bill from the Hospital...

OMG!!! This is definately a moment when I feel very very proud to be Australian....I didn't pay a cent for my op. Lap Band is covered by our medicare system if you go public. You have to wait 12mnths + to get the op done, but when you do, it's free. I only pay $40 per fill (total bill is $150 but medicare rebates $110 of it each time). I cannot believe how much it costs to get the surgery over there
