    Reflux and Lapband.

Hiya, just wondering if anyone else has experienced or have been experiencing reflux since being banded. I've only recently started having it during the night (usually first thing in the morning - it's what wakes me up!) but once I'm up, I'm fine again. I don't think my band is too tight, I haven't had a fill in about 2 months. I have been trying to think of what may be causing it and am thinking that it could perhaps be because I haven't been drinking enough Water?? Has anyone else had any problems with this and how do you stop it?

    Reflux and Lapband.

Thanks guys, I made sure I didn't eat anything too close to bedtime last night and tried drinking more water during the day..and I had no problems. It isn't a regular occurrence so I'm thinking that may be the problem. Will definitely be keeping an eye on the times/nights/days etc that it happens and if I get too concerned, I will be making an appointment to be checked out. Thanks again!

  5. YES!!! It was my 1 year bandiversary on the 7th May 2010 and I have been absolutely struggling with losing weight for the last couple of months. One week I will lose 1-2kgs, the next week they are back on again. I go to the gym 3 times a week, I walk my son from school 2 days a week, I've been trying to be careful with what I'm eating and yet I'm still struggling. It's hard to not become discouraged by it and I'm petrified that I'm going to get too much put in on Wednesday (when I have my next appointment) because of not losing enough weight. About 8 weeks ago I was upto 6ml (I have a 10ml band) but I was barely able to drink Water so he took .5 ml out. I was then able to eat some dinner but couldn't eat anything for Breakfast or lunch and at my appointment I had GAINED 1kg. So then he reduced it again back down to an even 5ml (which I am at now). It is extremely frustrating but at least I haven't gained weight this time so I'm trying to keep going....I'm sure one of these days my body will give me a break and eventually let me break this 3 month plateau !!

    Living with Too Tight Band

I have been too tight twice since being banded. The first time I only lasted 3 days before I went back (I had lost 3kgs in that 3 days) because I couldnt even get liquids down. This last time I had .3ml put in last wednesday and was only able to drink liquids - very very slowly for a WEEK! I was having reflux at night and would bring up anything "solid" i tried to eat. I went back yesterday (so 7 days) and had .5ml taken out. I can now eat small breaky, lunch and dinner with no problems. I feel sooo much better. Go and get some out!! :bored:

  10. I was doing sooo well until I hit Easter with a bang and somehow I have extended the 3 day holiday to a 2 weeks chocolate binge (by this i mean a chocolate bar every second day or so  *slaps self* which I have since Sunday stopped doing!). It hasn't been helped by the fact that I find it hard eating much at all until about 3-4pm (as previously discussed in my other post). I'm trying so hard not to let this get me down, I have my checkup appointment tomorrow which I'm so nervous about as I'm sure the scales are going to tell my surgeon EVERYTHING ...this is when I am so thankful I actually have my band in because it would be around this time (when I'm feeling so dissapointed in myself) that I would sit and binge on everything and anything. I guess I just have to look at the positive, I may not have lost anything recently, but I haven't gained and that's definitely a plus. Thanks for reading my rant. Feels good to get it out...I'll check back in tomorrow post-appointment!

    LESS restriction at NIGHT?

Oh wow, thanks for the last 2 posts - they really help and I'm definately going to try the suggestions!! THanks everyone else for showing me that I'm not the only one!! I'm extremely nervous about my checkup appointment tomorrow, I haven't been doing too well with the food that I have been eating (too much choc over easter etc!) so I'm trying not to let it get me down but it's hard knowing that I'm going to be weighed tomorrow...and I expect it won't be good news!!...Anyway, I will be back on track after my appointment I think- enough is enough...easter lasts 3 days, not the 2 weeks I've extended it for! LOL Thanks again everyone for their suggestions! I'm definately going to be trying them out!
  12. Hiya just wondering if anyone else is finding that they can eat more at night?? For the last couple of months (I'm on 5.7cc in a 10cc band) I have been struggling to eat during the day right up until about 4pm. I told my surgeon this at my last appointment (about 7 weeks ago)and he was tempted to take some out but told me that he wouldn't if I was able to at least consume Optifast..which I can and which I have been doing since (optifast shake for Breakfast and lunch). It's still happening like that though and my next appointment is next week so I'm thinking I will probably get some taken out this time. I wouldn't usually be so concerned but I think I've GAINED about 2kgs since my last appointment and the only real thing I can attribute that to is not eating enough during the day and too much at night?!... Anyway, just wanted to know if anyone else is having the same thing happen to them?? Would be great to know that I'm not the only one!

    Horrified at Australian surgeon

I believe we are extremely lucky to have the high standards and quality surgeons that we have here in Australia. As far as the woman only having a BMI of 33 - if she had to go what I went through to get her band put in (GP appointments, dietitian appointments, pre and post op appointments with the surgeon etc) and they still felt as though it would benefit her, then I think it's great she had it done. It's not as if the surgeon forced her to become so skinny - she (the patient) has every right to say when or when not to have more fill put in their body, so that cannot be blamed on her surgeon. Also, I'm pretty sure there are guidelines for people with medical conditions. If someone with a lower BMI of the standard 35-40 has serious medical conditions eg. high blood pressure, they are in the "bracket" to get banded.
