Can't take deep breaths...
TeganRheana replied to TeganRheana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No they didn't tell me anything about lung exercises. I felt sick at the hospital and the nurses just told me to breath it out...deep breaths in and out. That's all. I am usually ok...like right at this moment, I am fine with breathing in and out deeply..it's just occasionally that I get light headed/nauseous and vomity after it - usually first thing in the morning or after a burp/cough....sometimes it seems to just happen out of the middle of nowhere....I wonder if its my body fighting the band or even the lack of food??! I just hope it passes. If I am still having problems next week I will give my doc a call...at least then I would have given it a good week post op. -
I just wrote a thread about this same problem!! (Can't take deep breaths...) I'm finding it extremely hard to take deep breaths-especially when I first wake up, yawn or cough- and when I manage to do it, I end up dry reaching (sorry prob too much info). Had an awful time last night with it....its like I'm vomiting but nothing actually comes out....sometimes it will just happen to me at any given time - I went to the shops the other day and had to stand still for 5 mins to stop myself from vomiting...i felt very dizzy and nauseas....It can't be the food cause I'm still only on nutirtional fluids and only having 1/2cup every 2.5-3hrs....maybe our bodies are just trying to fight the band???

Anyone banded May 7 2009?
TeganRheana replied to TeganRheana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh good, I'm so glad there are other people out there who are going through the same things I am at the same time....the pain in the shoulders is a killer...I'm feeling a lot better again today...only occasionally get the pain back in my shoulder and my stomach is feeling a little less tender. I'm finding it extremely hard to take deep breaths though especially when I first wake up, yawn or cough- and when I manage to do it, I end up dry reaching (sorry prob too much info). Had an awful time last night with it....its like I'm vomiting but nothing actually comes out and then of course when it's over - the pain starts again. I might start another thread on it to see if other people have experienced it.... How are you all feeling today?? -
Scared it's going to slip/stretch...
TeganRheana posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm terrified that I'm going to eat to much and I really don't want that to happen. I would love it if we had a gauge we could look at to see how full we are (because I can't feel it - I feel full all the time- I haven't been hungry yet)...I'm sticking to the 6 servings of 110mls of nutritional fluids (thin custard, yoghurt, sustagen etc) but I'm still nervous that I'm going to stretch it. Is anyone else scared of stretching or having their band slip? -
Heya
Yep, aussie here Everything has gone pretty smoothly so far. Went in for my op, had it, came out the next day. Had a couple of days of extreme pain in my shoulders and neck couldn't move around much although I know that I should've - it could've help fix it faster. But today on day 4 I'm actually feeling ok. Haven't felt hungry yet surprisingly considering I've been on fluids for 4 days!! lol...have you been banded or you looking to be banded ?? Where in Oz are u?

TeganRheana replied to TeganRheana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thankyou! :frown: I haven't actually felt hungry yet which is amazing but is annoying at the same time because I am basically eating when I know I need to and it makes it hard becuase I can't tell if I'm more full then what I was before I ate....lol...confusing I know! That is great to know about upto 1 cup of food per 2hrs...currently I have been having about 1/2cup of food every 2.5-3hrs...and I still haven't been hungry - so I might stick with that until the 2 weeks post op is up. I was banded on 7 May - 4days ago. Thanks again for your suggestions  -

Gas pain in shoulder - 10 days post op
TeganRheana replied to emjay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also just had my op on 7 May 2009....so I'm into day 3....I was in soooo much pain last night, the pain in my right shoulder and neck was excutiating....thankfully today it has settled down a lot in my shoulder and is now just my neck is sore so I'm able to move around little more...the nurses said it had soemthing to do with wind, but I'm not so sure.... I really really hope it doesn't take too long to settle down, I can handle the stomach tenderness but the pain in up top is horrible! -

TeganRheana replied to TeganRheana's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey again, well I'm home from the op...got home yesterday...I haven't felt hungry at all yet which is great so it's making it very easy to stick to the post -op diet. Went with clear fluids all yesterday and today woke up, had 50mls of sustagen and have just had about 80mls of jelly. I think the hardest thing so far is remembering to drink water!! I'm so used to having large amounts of Water at the one time rather than small sips every 10mins or so, but I'm getting there. I was in soooo much pain last night, the pain in my right shoulder and neck was excutiating....thankfully today just my neck is sore so I'm able to move around little more...the nurses said it had soemthing to do with wind, but I'm not so sure.... Has anyone else felt so sore in other areas than their stomach after having the surgery?? And if so, how long did it take for it to settle down?? -
Hi just wondering how long everyone had to wait to get their band in from the first appointment with the specialist??? Interested to hear from both public and private patients!!!!
-
I have no idea but i have also heard that you can get tummy tucks/excess skin cut off etc through the public system for free!!! Will be keeping an eye on this thread, sorry I couldn't help!

Perth - Public patient = longer wait???
TeganRheana replied to TeganRheana's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for all the replies girls...sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I am in a bit of a dilemma at the moment, not sure what I am supposed to do... Nov last year my doc referred me to Sir Charles Gardener, because I didn't hear from them and it had been 4 months already my doc then referred me to Kevin Dolan (joondalup) and then I had an appointment with him only 4 weeks later. Anyway, so I had my appointment with him about 2 weeks ago, i filled in the forms and now i am on the waiting list for the surgery in Joondalup (we currently live in Landsdale NOR) which he said will be around the 12-18mnth mark. Then today I get a phone call from SCG saying that they sent my letter (appointment) to the wrong address and that they will send a new one to my address here so now I am waiting on that. Then I will go to that appointment fill in the forms etc and get on the list at SCG. NOW my dilemma is...I will be on 2 waiting lists haha...and we are moving to rockingham in a couple of weeks. After hearing one of you say that Joondalup WON'T do patients out of the joondalup area...do you think that once I am on the list with SCG that I should just cancel it all with joondalup OR should I just wait it out and see who will let me in first??? I don't want to have to wait another 3-4yrs (if that is true) for SCG to do it for me!! I need it now!!! haha... What would you do???? Thanks for reading!!! -
Getting band April09 but TTC Aug/Sept09???
TeganRheana posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hey there, well I have an appointment with the specialist in April to discuss when I will be getting the band. Looks like it will be April next year ('09) which really can't come fast enough for me - If I could have it done tomorrow - I would!!! Anywayz, problem is - we were going to start TTC around August/Sept next year ('09) which now I am not so sure is a good idea...thinking it may be better for me to wait until April ('10) to start TTC as it would have been a year with the band in....I am really unsure about what I should do - of course the health of myself and my baby is no#1 so just wanted to know what you all thought - would you wait that extra 8 months or would you start TTC when you originally planned to??? Also, who has become pregnant soon after getting the band in and had a non-complicated-healthy pregnancy, and how soon was it that you became pregnant??? Also - did you need an unfill and if so - what did this involve doing?? Thanks!!!! -
Rastis100 wow...$12000!!!! I was told by both my GP and by Dr Dolan that it would be covered by Medicare and all I would have to pay was the intial appointment fee of $150 (which I would also get some back from medicare)...the timing sounds great but youch...am hoping my doc was right re: pricing!!! Thanks for the infO!!!! Have made an appointment to see him on April 11.

Me again haha, people who had their band done by Dr Watson (is this the Dr Watson in Murdoch??), how long did it take to get the band in once you had your first appointment with him and were you a public patient??? Thanks!!!
-
Hey girls...I am also in perth, I was put on the list to have the band put in at Sir Charles Gardner in November however after still not hearing from them I have now been given a referral to see Dr Kevin Dolan in Joondalup on April 9. My concern is that I have already waited this long and still haven't had my appointment yet - it honestly can't come fast enough - and then I have been told that I most likely wont be getting the band in until April NEXT YEAR....first question is: has anyone been to Dr Dolan before and if so, what did you think of him??? Second question: Where does Dr Watson practice??? It seems that jsut about all of you had yours done by him and he sounds like he does it a lot sooner!!!!
-
Hey everyone - I have an appointment in April to see Dr Kevin Dolan (Joondalup). We're looking at hopefully getting the band early next year which to be honest can't come fast enough!!! Just looking for some other peoples experiences with him - were you happy with him as your doctor??? Very nervous about it all but also very excited!!! Thanks.
