Can someone tell me if medicaid covers lapband surgery, and is it the same requirments as regular insurance?

Please help I have just started thinking about the surgery and I am scared i won't get approved by insurance. 280lbs and I have been heavy all my life the last time i was thin i was 7 yrs old. Is it that hard to get approved

Does anyone use aetna and have been approved? is it hard to be approved by aetna?

Hi I am not sure if I understand you when you say You have to lose weight first. Isn't that the purpose of the band, because you can't lose the weight on your own. How much weight do you have to lose in order to get insurance to pay?

Thank you Mariposa I have am so afraid that my surgery will not get covered by my job. I have aetna. Where do you live down here I live in lauderdale lakes which is in Ft. lauderdale. I wish I knew some people close to me that have had the surgery. I am going to a semiar on monday the 28th of November, and can't wait. Thanks If I find out I will let everyone know I have had my tonsils removed on medicaid but that's different.

I would like to know what i will need for insurance to approve me, and how much out of pocket will i need to come up with? Do I need to come up with the money ahead of time for surgery or what? Does medicaid cover this surgery?

You look great. I haven't had surgery yet. I haven't even gone to a semiar yet. I have just decided to do the surgery do you know how hard it will be for my insurance to approve me? I have aetna. And how much will I have to pay up front before surgery?

Thank you so much for answering my thread. I am sooooo new to this. I have read so much about this lap band surgery in the last 2 weeks, I am soooo scared that I will not get approved for my surgery. I called aetna and they said the lap band surgery is a part of their insurance plan I have to just followed the doctors instructions, and do what is required of the plan. I guess that means the 100lb over weight thing and bmi score. I am 280lb's right now and can't even sit comfortable at my computer desk to write you. I saw you on the sit please help me though this. I just want to cry sometimes.
