Today, I am wondering what I have done to myself

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. I'm seven years out from the DS and I can tell you, as those who posted before me, it does get better. Follow your doctor's advice. Learn what your body can and cannot handle then push forward from there. I can honestly say 95% of the time I don't feel like I had surgery. xoxo bariatricbutterfly

    HELP! HELP!

Let's be honest here. We know what to do to lose weight. Protein shakes are full of so much crap. They are good for when you can't get to anything else. Real food eaten at the right intervals is all you need. Stop skipping meals. Make sure you're consuming enough calories. Drink Water. The formula is simple. Surgery is a tool. Wondering about wls youtubers channels

This thread is encouraging. I've been debating myself in starting a YouTube channel for those of us years out. I'm 7 years out. I'm also looking into becoming a Personal Trainer and Health Lifestyle Coach to WLS patients only. Maybe something to consider heavily going into 2017. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Muscle Gain.

I just secured a coach. I've been reading a lot online and trial and error with my body. My coach is aware of my malabsorption and we tweak accordingly . For instance, I don't absorb as much fat as others, so I consume good quality fat at 4 meals vs 2. My body tells me quickly when I've been short changing it on the Protein. Carbs are touchy. I do well on high protein high fat low carb plans. At my physical this year my Bariatric surgeon couldn't believe the progress and how long I've maintained. Muscle Gain.

I've den weight training for a good solid year. The change has been phenom. I caught a glimpse of my back and was cheering all day from the gains. This pic was right before I did my arm lift surgery. I've decided to take my workouts to the next level and signed on to do a bikini competition. I have a good solid 24 weeks to prep. I may chronicle the journey on YouTube Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Back fat?!

Watch you diet. No such thing as spot reduction. However with proper diet and incorporating some challenging weights properly you can bring about change. I've developed my back really well by just cutting back on carbs, increasing Protein and hitting the Iron consistently Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Lifters- How do you work your macros?

I've been lifting for a good year and the results are phenom. What has helped me is getting 4 - 5 oz of Protein with every new which is roughly 4 to 6 meals depending on the day. I'm not big on cardio but I do manage about 20 minutes 3x a week. Although I lost over 215lbs since surgery the heavy lifting and splitting my body work out over 6 days has done wonders. Read read read. Find support as you already have here. And remember what works for one may or work for you. But what is true, adequate protein is needed to build and repair muscle. Give it time and trust the process. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Having a hard time sticking to my diet

@@aimeebatson1 At about 5 years out I hit that point too. I had even crept back up 20lbs. If you know what your stressors are, do what you can to eliminate them. The impact stress has on our bodies is amazing, surgery or not. Yoga, afternoon walks, waking up early and meditating. Whatever you must do to find peace with yourself. Next, as suggested, go back to basics. Protein and veggies. I can't stress it enough. That along with weigh lifting (my stress reliever), I lost 20lbs plus 5 more. I'm working towards and additional 15 - 20 for now. As I always say, the quick weightloss days are behind us, however, with some hard work and consistency it does get easier. BTW, my inner fat girl name is 'Shelly' and she is a beast. She rears her head on stressful days, such as this, and tell me how much I want to indulge in all of the sweet treats I have for my kids. But I fight her one day at a time. And it feels good when I go to bed at night and realize the new me has conquered the old by not giving in. You can do this. Just take it one day, one meal, one step at a time. xoxo

DS veterans lend me your history

To echo @discodawg I don't have any issues either. Not even with constipation. I can eat carbs and not have any issues. I do limit my carbs however just to avoid any excessive weight gain. I will say if I eat something really really greasy/fatty, the bathroom isn't too kind the following morning . However, I may eat like that 2x a year!! What I'm learning is it can be managed for some with diet monitoring. Your body will tell you what's good and what's not. I'm 6 years out and enjoying life. Hell some days I don't even realize I have surgery.

Having a hard time sticking to my diet

Stick to the basics. Proteins and veggies. Lots of veggies. If you struggle with getting veggies in, you can brown some meat (chicken, lean turkey, buffalo), saute peppers (green bell, yellow bell, red bell) and red onions, combine and add some low sodium taco seasoning. You can eat on that through out the day. Pick one to two days a week (not back to back) where you can get a few more carbs in (old fashioned oats, sweet potatoes (skip the butter and sugar), brown rice) then do the Protein and veggies on days in between. You'll be surprised at how much weight you'll drop just by following this along with upping your Water. There are no shortcuts to healthy living and keeping the weight off. There are videos on YouTube that you can workout to in your own home. Surgery is a tool not the solution. So start establishing healthy habits now!! Much success to you.

7 year veteran slowly gaining weight.....HELP!

Let me add my 2 cents here. Anything worth having is worth making time for. Although supplementation is great, getting quality Protein in is key. I hate cooking by all means. Therefore, I suck it up and do all of my meal prep on Sundays. I'm 6 years out. Started at 385 and now fluctuate between 173 and 177. I'm currently working to hit my goal of 160. I attribute it to ensuring I get quality protein in and having something accessible throughout the day. Plus I bust my tail at the gym. Do I indulge? Hell yeah. On the weekends I may go to IHOP with kids or enjoy a naughty meal at the movies with the family. Life is about balance and finding what works. When I gained 20lbs at year 5 I knew I was at the point where I had to put in work just like my thinner peers. Surgery is a tool not the solution. You over eat, you gain. You under eat, you stall. Also remember, consistency. If you're looking for that over night weight loss that you had in beginning, hang it up. It's time to go to work. Be consistent, throw the scale out and trust the process. You will see the results. With Love BariatricButterfly
