Nervous -- How about some stories on how much better you feel?
anrobe replied to sc101071's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thank you all for sharing! This is exactly what I needed to see. I often feel like an 80 year old in a very overweight 42 year old's body. My body just hurts. I'm out of breath so much of the time. I can't do the things I want to do. And I really want to be able to buy clothes in a regular store! Every one of your comments is just reminding me that this is the best decision I can make for myself. I can't wait to finish my requirements so I can get the surgery done and start a new life! -
YAY! Congratulations!

The chocolate is my favorite hands down. But, I like the caramel, strawberry and vanilla as well. Still need to try the Banana - I can't seem to find 4 packs in my area and I hate to buy a case. What if I don't like them!?!?

I quit caffeine recently and I found that it got easier by about the 5th day. The headaches stopped at that point anyway which made life a bit more manageable. It just takes time. You can do it!!

My Diet Coke has been laid to rest........
anrobe replied to Armygalbonnie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I quit Diet Pepsi cold turkey. Best decision ever. I feel SO much better since moving away from it. I think it was contributing to my feeling sluggish and tired all the time. And not drinking it seems to be changing my taste buds! -
I just 'quit' Diet Pepsi after years of drinking it ALL day and ALL night. It was tough for a few days but now it tastes terrible to me - very syrupy and overly sweet. I'm drinking mostly Sparkling Water products or using Crystal Light. When I had a Diet Pepsi the other day, I felt tired and icky the rest of the day. Then, I tried again yesterday to see if it was the Diet Pepsi making me feel tired and icky, and I did feel yucky after drinking it. I think it was making me more tired and triggering me to eat more sweet things. My taste buds seem to be mellowing out since stopping Diet Pepsi. I feel MUCH better since quitting them - physically better. I'll still drink it here and there - usually as a treat at a restaurant since I think the product from a fountain is more palatable. I'm not anti-Diet Pepsi but I think it's been making me feel worse.

Instant Pot! Good recipes and ideas?

LOL, ok, thank you for clarifying. I was so confused and didn't get the joke. -
Instant Pot! Good recipes and ideas?

Why are they illegal in some states? I've never heard of them described as instant pots - just pressure cookers. -
I'm also a type 2 diabetic so I'll be following this thread closely as I get closer to surgery. Thanks for sharing!

Chantix really helped me when I quit (it was about 8 years ago). It just helped make the cigarette taste like a cigarette. Within a few days, I'd quit for good. I'm not sure the vaping would have worked for me as a big part of it was letting go of my little habits around smoking. But, in the end, whatever works, right?!

I've told just a few trusted friends and family members about my upcoming WLS. Soon, I will need to ask for time off from work for surgery and I'm pretty sure my boss will ask what surgery I'm having (even if he's not supposed to) and I'm not sure whether or not I want to tell him. But, if he asks, I'm not sure how to politely say I don't want to tell you. LOL I'm not sure if he'll be overtly non-supportive but I have no idea. People react very strangely about WLS in my experience. If I hear one more time about all of the terrible things people have heard about WLS, I'll scream. I'm just trying to tackle this work discussion and how to approach it. Any suggestions?

Those are great suggestions ... thanks so much. Yes, I don't want to lie ... I just want him to not keep asking me what surgery lol

Monthly Vitamin Costs
anrobe replied to Jellybean55's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Another tip is to buy when the drug stores have sales. I know CVS does buy one, get one sales constantly. I almost always get my vitamins during those sales and it saves me a ton of money! -
I'm in the process of getting everything ready for insurance submission while I also am trying to change some of my habits so the transition will be a little easier. My question is about protein. I've really never been big on protein - like chicken, for example, is usually so bland and dry. I love red meat and seafood so that's one area I'll focus on to increase protein but I was hoping to get some ideas from all of you in terms of how you increase your protein intake. I know I will need to supplement with protein shakes but I'd love to have a solid list of ideas of proteins (and ways to eat them) going into surgery. I don't dislike chicken, I just find it bland. I'm open to new things and trying anything. I'd love to hear your ideas! THANKS!

Thanks so much for your responses! I'm definitely feeling reassured that I'll be able to figure it out. My NUT appointment is in 2 weeks so I'm sure she'll be able to help me at that point as well. Lots of great ideas here! Thank you!

I'm going to be getting the sleeve. I keep hearing how tastes change after surgery so I'm hoping that I may find that I enjoy more Proteins ... like tuna, for example. I wish I liked it and could enjoy it. Thanks for note and I'll definitely plan to experiment!

Sending hugs your way! I'm so sorry that you're going through all of this. I hope things begin to turn around for you!

I'm in Richmond. I've just recently started the process. My doctor is Dr. Schroeder. I've had my initial consult, decided on the sleeve. Now, I have my NUT appointment next week and my psych eval the following week. My insurance doesn't require much which was such a relief. I'm hoping to submit for insurance approval by mid-August. I'm really excited! It's time to get going! My next steps are figuring out my out of pocket expense and how much time to take off of work.
