    Really Regretting it.

I would be lying if I said that I didn't have some of these same feelings so far. I am one week out of RNY and just don't feel good, I feel so thirsty and can't hydrate enough. I just read these boards everyday and cling to the hope that you all give me that it will get better!
  3. I had gastric bypass on Wednesday, so I am 5 days out. My doctor gave me the goals of trying to reach 60-80 grams of protein a day, 100 grams of carbs a day and 30 fat grams a day. Also, 2 liters of fluids a day. I am working very hard, but can't get all this in yet. I am trying to get something down every 2-3 hours. How often are you eating/drinking something? Just wondering what other plans look like (will stick with what my doctor is telling me in the end, but just curious about others).

    August Bypass Buddies!

Surgery update: Okay, new update. It has been a very hard few days. I was tricked at first. Within a couple of hours of surgery, I was feeling great. However, that quickly changed. Through the entire first night I feel like satan had unleashed a gang of demons inside my body. I was allergic to the pain meds that they were pushing and it was very difficult dealing with that. I was up throwing up blood for hours. The pain from that was terrible and I was very scared. I still have tons of the blood in my sinuses. The surgery day and night and the first part of the next day I was so mad at myself for doing this. However, it is getting better everyday. I am at home now so that is a good thing. I have not had more than 2 hours of sleep at a time since surgery. More positive notes: I am feeling better, I am able to hold down water, small sips of a protein drink and about a 1/4 cup of strained cream soup (not at the same time). I believe I am on the mend now.

    August Bypass Buddies!

Well day 1 has been great almost. Lol the pain meds are making no me itch like MAD!!!! and the cath is driving me nuts. Otherwise, I am great. Ice cubes and Water are going down without any problems. I have not experienced being hungry either. They are giving me gas meds, so no problem there either. When I first got to my room I was in extreme pain, but that ended quickly with the meds. Just wanted to send y'all an update. HW 274 Surgery morning weight 254
  7. I just checked in for my gastric bypass. I am nervous and excited. I have spent hours and hours over the last few months reading all your posts, books, literature from my doctor and NUT, etc to prepare myself. Thanks everyone and please say a prayer for me today!!!

    August Bypass Buddies!

Have to be in the hospital for my surgery in 3.5 hours. I can't sleep! I can't believe the day is here. It took so long getting here. I am nervous, but excited about being healthy again. I am excited about being proud of myself again and not ashamed of my weight. I am anxious to not feel like people are judging me based on my weight. I was always thin as a child, but started gaining weight at 18 and now I am 40. I have never been thin as an adult and I am ready to know this feeling. I stuck to the preop diet really well and didn't struggle much. It was hard, but I want to follow my doctors instructions throughout this process the best I can. I am ready!!!!

I can't believe that my surgery is tomorrow morning. I am a nervous wreck. Reading all of your comments helps though.
  10. Great ideas everyone. Thanks. I am saving them for sure!

    Sad

@@celibear thanks for being brave enough to share and ask. I am preop (surgery 8/17) and I am certain that this thread will be helpful to me and others in the future.
  12. Oh and sorry, yes I have only actually met my surgeon twice. The first appointment described above and at the end after I completed all of my requirements and she approved me for surgery and to be added to the schedule.
  13. I first reached out to my surgeon and did orientation in January 2016. The first appointment with the surgeon was very fast and uninformative for me. After a quick 3-4 minutes with the surgeon, weight check and height check, I met with the insurance liaison. She gave me my requirements. After that pont, I worked it all the time and complied with everything as soon as it came up. I went to all the classes, etc and had a 3 month Doctor supervised weight loss attempt with my PCP. I had lots of blood work, upper GI, etc. Having said all that (just to say that nothing ever stalled for me) I have a surgery date of 8/17. It took 8 months for me to get through the entire process and requirements, get insurance approval and get a surgery date. Hope this helps.
