  1. @@Mudgy6 Do you mean the nicotine patches? It depends on your surgeon. I would call and ask. I've never wanted one as bad as I do now. This hunger is crazy! LOL At first my surgeon said no, but then he said it was better than smoking and if it would keep my cravings down that I could start using them again. When did you start the pre-op diet? When's your surgery? This is not for the weak, that's for sure! LOL Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  2. @AlexBrecher Thank you so much! I'm so thankful for the support at home, I'm very blessed. I'm doing a lot better than I was last week. I'm still not fully satisfied after a meal, but I'm not craving junk nearly as much. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  3. @@Kari1985 I just had my pre-op physical and surgery meeting last week too (as well as routine blood work and EKG.) The meeting (for me) was basically going over everything; pre-op diet, post-op diet, the surgery, pain, waking after surgery, DOs and DON'Ts after surgery, what to look out for, your hospital stay, etc. It was really long, but 99% of it you probably already know. You don't have to do clears at all before surgery? I'm so jealous! The low carb/high Protein isn't too bad (which is what I'm on now,) but there have been moments where I have just wanted to binge eat everything lol. Good luck with your surgery, and if you need to talk about anxiety or anything, just shoot me a message. I'll be praying for an easy surgery and gentle recovery! 4. A week from today, my surgery will be over, and I will be recovering in the hospital. To the few who do know me on here know that I have very bad anxiety/panic disorder. Today I am not excited than anxious knowing that the surgery will be over with soon. Yesterday was a very hard day anxiety wise. I'm sure this week will be filled with ups and downs. The good news is I met someone online in my local support group who actually works in the OR with my surgeon, AND she had the sleeve done in January. She told me she will be with me from the moment I arrive at the hospital and she'll be there during my surgery. I won't know the time of my surgery until the day before when the hospital calls. She did tell me that she will request that I'm the first surgery of the day though. (which gives me less time to worry.) She also understands my fears because it's normal. She actually backed out of her surgery at the last minute, and then went through with it. I guess this is more of a "Dear Diary," post rather than a question lol. I'm sure in a few days, hell, maybe even tomorrow, I'll be writing on here about how terrified I am and that I'm having second thoughts.... it's crazy how bad anxiety can be... 5. @@SheilanLee Each surgeon has different pre-op diets. Some people are on Clear Liquids pre-op while others are on low carb/high protein diets. My surgeon has me on a low carb/high protein diet for 2 weeks before surgery. On Saturday and Sunday, it'll just be clear liquids since my surgery is next Monday. Do you have a surgery date yet? 6. @@Kari1985 Yes! I'm so thankful she found me...haha! I posted in my local support group, and she reached out to me in a private message. It may sound odd, but while I'm having surgery, I always ask either the anesthesiologist, scrub nurse, or tech to touch my face as I'm being put under. Lol. It's just really comforting to me. When I had my children (3 c-sections,) my ex husband was in the room, and I wasn't put under and I was comforted by him holding my hand and the doctor talking to me. I am terrified of embarrassing myself. In 2007, I had sinus surgery and they didn't give me any anti-anxiety meds before they gave me anesthesia. I went from an 8 on the anxiety scale to a 10+ within 30 seconds. I sat up on the OR table, and told them "My legs feel so heavy, I must be having an allergic reaction!" They told me it was the medicine, but I didn't believe it or course. The next thing I remember is just waking up from surgery. I was so embarrassed when I remembered what I had said and did. I hate, Hate, HATE anxiety !! I hope our surgeries go well, and our anxiety is as minimal as possible. How's your pre-op diet going? You can message me anytime! Pain Pill Absorption/Chronic Pain

I'm having the vsg done next Monday, and I'm on Butrans 15 mcg for chronic pain after a car accident. My PCP said pain Patches won't change the effectiveness after surgery, but short acting pain pills can. I would ask your PCP about a patch. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App

    High blood pressure after surgery?

How high? Both pain and anxiety can cause high bp, so if you're still in a significant amount of pain, it could be from that. Please let me know how your doctor appointment goes. Sending my love and prayers! Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  9. Today (day 3) was a LOT better! The first two days were really hard! After reading feedback on here, I'm going to try the things suggested. We got this !! Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App Thank you so much! Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  10. Yes, we can! ????My fiancé who actually used to worked on the bariatric floor at the hospital recommended trying the broth from wonton soup. Definitely picking some up tomorrow. Thank-you! Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App Thank you, I'll pick some up. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  11. YES! I have a bad back, ankles, and my right hip which i know will improve with the weight loss. I also suffer from migraines which my surgeon said may reduce after losing weight. I keep re-reading that list, and feel better everytime. Tomorrow will be day #4, and today was much better. The first two days, I agree, were pretty rough. 12. I've been constipated too, UGH!!! You're completely right though. I think it's the act of eating I miss. Today has definitely been better than the first few days! Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  13. Let me start off by saying I am pre-op but haven't had to do a pre-op diet yet. I have had broth before though! I like the packets of broth you add Water to. I think they're in a green box. You can try some canned Soup like beef consume or strained onion soup (just drink broth) or you can make your own broth (or just add spices to box broth). Hang in there! It's wonderful your family is adopting a healthier lifestyle too - that will make it so much easier!I'll definitely try all of your suggestions, thank-you! I am so thankful for all of you, and my fiancé and 5 little monsters are Godsends. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  14. Thanks! I'll definitely give it a try! Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App I keep telling myself "This too shall pass..." We can, and WILL get through this! Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App Thank you! Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  15. Definitely filling up on Water and sugar free liquids. The bathroom has been my second home these past few days. ???? LOL Thank you for your support! Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App Thank you! I'm so glad you're not having a hard time with the pre-op liquid diet. How wonderful! When's your surgery? Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  16. Thank-you sweetie! I was just talking to the surgeon at my support group this evening, and he said the pre-op diet is one of the hardest parts because our stomachs are so stretched out that it's normal not to be satisfied. Oh my Gosh, you sound like me! I suffer from migraines too, and I usually take Excedrin or ibuprofen for me It is killing me not to give in and take one. I'm hoping losing weight helps decrease my migraines in intensity and frequency. When's your surgery? Good luck!! Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  17. Thank you so much!! The support at home and here has been tremendous! I kept telling my fiancé I don't think I'd survive the pre-op liquid diet for 2 weeks if I had to do it. Lol but you're absolutely right, it's getting easier and I want to be healthy so quitting isn't an option. I went to a support group tonight, and talked to the bariatric surgeon and he said the pre-op diet is usually a lot harder than the post-op because our stomachs are bigger before surgery than after (makes sense) which is no wonder why I don't feel satisfied. 18. I'm a late eater too! I rarely eat Breakfast, and drink iced coffee all day. (not healthy at all lol) then I eat a small late lunch, dinner, and snack at night. Now I've been eating first thing in the morning, lunch, and dinner before 7. Today has been easier. I'm going to have to adjust to this new lifestyle so better now than later. 19. I don't think I've shared this before, and I certainly hope I'm not the only one here that's a former smoker. I quit smoking on April 1st of this year after 15 yrs. I used the nicotine Patches. When using nicotine patches, they recommend using them for an average of 6 months. I just took my last patch off. Even while using the patches, I still had cravings which have decreased with each passing day. I fear tomorrow that my cravings will come back 10 fold. Tomorrow is also the day I start my pre-op diet, and for those who have quit know that a lot of the times you crave more food, sweets especially, but I absolutely cannot cheat. And I know nicotine is a huge NO-NO post op. I've come way too far to give in to a cigarette which will only destroy my lungs, health, and eventually, take my life. Any advice? If you're a former smoker reading this, how did you quit? What kept you motivated? My kids are my motivation; they are as vital as oxygen to me. I can't leave this earth prematurely. I want to watch them reach every milestone, as well as my grandchildren. As always, thanks for listening. XO Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  20. Wow, that's AWESOME!! I'm so proud of you! It's definitely a very hard addiction to overcome. I'm more sleepy than usual, but I know that's normal because of not having nicotine now. I'm looking forward to the money I'll save too. My fiancé said just the other day "Think of how many new clothes you'll be able to buy!" Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  21. Thank you for your encouragement! I was a little weepy this morning, cravings were strong, but I HAVE to do this! Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App Thank you! I'll make a list right now. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  22. Well, I got my clearance from all my pre-op testing yesterday, and my approval from the insurance company the beginning of last week, so this is it! July 25th is the date! (which what it was set for, but getting the clearance/approval made it all so surreal.) I'm feeling excited, nervous, happy, anxious, ecstatic, and scared out of my mind! I spoke with my surgeon about my fears and anxieties, and he helped reassure me that it is completely normal to be anxious. As I was leaving my final (pre-op) appointment, he said "I'll see you in the pre-op room before surgery." I have one more appointment on the 14th for normal blood work. Okay, sorry for rambling! I start my pre-op diet on Monday, the 11th. I'm not on a liquid diet until the last 48 hrs before surgery. My pre-op diet is pretty much the bariatric diet; very low carbs, little to no sugars, lean meats, Protein, veggies and fruit. I will be meal planning tomorrow and heading to the grocery store on Sunday. Any recommendations on what I should pick up (aside from the obvious) and/or high protein/low fat/low carb/little to no sugar recipes? Breakfast? lunch? dinner? As always, thanks in advance! Went to the local health store, and bought all my Vitamins tonight too. I was excited just buying the vitamins; I know it must sound silly, but I'm so excited and beyond thankful for this. 23. Another July 25th! I'm on a 2 week low carb/high protein diet, and the 48 hrs before surgery will be a clear liquid diet. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  24. I start today too! Although it's still the 10th to me because it's 3:53AM here, and I haven't fallen asleep yet lol. You can message me anytime! I'm getting really anxious and really excited. My mind is a whirlwind of emotions! Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
