You have a lot of stitches around your port, It is sewn to the upper layer of muscles to hold it in place. Sometimes stitches pull, I know mine did and for a few months. Sometimes I would wake up in the night with a position that gave me pain there, and underwire bras are OUT. Now with a little weight lost, I hardly notice it anymore. YEAH! Do you think it could be the stitches just getting settled? If it doesnt go away, call the DR.

This is a very common reaction to the sedation drugs leaving your body. The drugs used to make you sleep for surgery cause this withdrawal syndrome. I had it happen when I had other surgeries too, I wish that more Dr.s would prepare people to expect this. It can really confuse you if you dont see it comming. I believe that mourning the loss of a friend, (food) and the shock your body gets, adrenalin and trauma from surgery, and finally sitting still long enough to think about what just happened to you, these all contribute to getting emotional. Just normal Id sayl

The sweet spot isnt really sweet. It just is the point where you dont feel physical hunger between your regularly planned meals. If you keep hydrated, this usually makes most adjustments sweet, untill you do not continue to loose at least 1 lb per week. My Dr. feels that this moniker is unfair as it causes some people to believe that they can feel no hunger, eat what they want, and still loose the weight. I agree with him after not finding a sweet spot after one year, adjustments and all. I now know that it is called sweet because you continue to loose weight, with minimal hunger. I hope this helps, If you eat the foods that pack your pouch, and chew carefully, and drink no sooner that 30 min after eating, your hunger, satification, homones have the opportunity to complete registration in the brain. The sweet spot does nothing to alleviate head hunger, just tummy or true hunger. I dont know, perhaps there are people that can explain what they mean by the sweet spot. There isnt a hard and fast definition in my mind.

Best 0 calorie/low calorie foods?
Victoriana replied to BabyGotBack's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Trader Joes makes a great rice cracker, Savory Thin Mini,37 crackers only 130cals and the Multi Seed with Soy Sauce, 35 crackers has 110 calories. I eat smoked salmon with mine, and they have a great crunch. Really satifies the munchies. -

Dear JulieG, I hope that you can take what I say as helpfull, and I am sad that your main support person has opt-ed out, it really leaves a big hole. What concerns me is that we all need a network for support, not just one person to bear the main burden (as it were). I dont know, perhaps you do have a network of face to face people, not just us here. We need human companionship, but as Jahair said, sometimes we dont realize that some relationships arent really support, but enabling. Sometimes the forbidden relationship causes it to appear more appealing than it really should be. I hope that your can connect with several people, even be the support for someone elses journey through thier rough places. We all have them. Please do not isolate and focus on what you dont have, it will drain you of happiness and ambition. Your sound like you have a heart of gold, and its breaking. You are worth the effort it can take to reach out to others. Dont let the rejection of this relationship cause you to not reach out for help with someone else. You have recognized the value that a supportive friend adds to life, Just think if you had ten of them! I really hope you press on with this, the need for relationship is normal and inside each of us. Did you know that if a newborn is fed, clean and left alone without human contact they usually die? I wish I could cite the research I read on this once. I was stunned and I never forgot how important the touch from another person was so powerful. I dont think you are odd, or wired wrong, I just think that now you are recognizing your need and that is the first step in getting it met, right? You are precious. Dont forget it.

Sorry, it seems like this is an uncommon symptom as no one has posted for a few hrs. Hang in there, tomorrow someone may relate to this. I understand that we store estrogen in our fat supply and as we loose, we get a surge in this hormome. Perhaps you are sensitive to this. If the pain persist, I would check with my band Dr. and then my gyno. Another thought, are you sleeping in very different positions from before the surgery? I was and I got sore in other spots, but now things are totally better. Hope you feel better soon!

I have noticed that when I am hydrated properly, all seems to go well with my band.I can eat just about anything, but not much of it if I chew well. If I get behind in my water drinking, my band becomes fickle and almost impossible to get anything down. Has anyone noticed this with their band? or is this just one of my goofy personal quirks? It is so predictable for me that its the first thing I check when my band is naughty. But it is a good thing, it keeps me full of water!

Cats are from Outer Space, who else would have the nerve to turn down good food! The only cats I found at parties wear spiked heals, and they arent purring either!

Wow, Princess what an ordeal! Are you alright now? Something like that would surely raise my BP. Im glad you posted this info, I hope this word gets out. I think Ill copy it and send it to my Vet. They probably know about it but if they do, I wasnt told anything. Ill ask them to post it somewhere and hope they do, as if anything happened to my bebo, and it could have been avoided, I would have a hard time forgiving myself. You deserve lots-o-hugs!

It is true that good hydration is good for retaining water and for dehydration. I seems opposite though, but I also was removed from the bp meds, and I was removed from the diuretic. I rebounded about 9 pounds and had to re-loose it, that was a curveball! I am very happy to be off both of those meds. I believe that vitamine c helps with proper fluid levels, so I try to get some every day also. Thanks for the replys, I was hoping it wasnt my imagination!

Steri-Strip Fall off Time
Victoriana replied to IlliterateJedi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All the small incisions healed without any scars and the strips came of in about 8 pr 9 days for the large incision. The thing I didnt know was that most colloidal scars come from the reaction we get from the internal type of stitches. I have had extensive surgery in the past, one incision was about ten inches long. That healed without any bumpy scars and It had the staples. It is almost completely faded. If I knew beforehand that the internal stitches caused colloidal scarring, I would have insisted on staplels. Oh well, live and learn! -
Dont worry Carlene, He will get his at the pearly gates when he sees the message "access denied". Why dont more people think in terms of eternity? So sad for Mrs. P. she sounds precious, Whos husband is He? She may be in a state of confusion, but I still hear the confliction in her. Thank God that He will never leave her or forsake her.

You still have the band and it is still working, but the only thing that can ruin your operation is getting it removed. The operation is a physical thing and is going to stay there. If you eat more calories than you burn, you will gain weight If you eat less calories than you burn, you will loose it. Shakes and Icecream and stuff that is soft and high calorie goes right through your band. If you eat good fish, or other good protien, it has more solid form and you can "pack" your pouch and little by little it goes through and gets digested. You feel full much longer, but if you drink while you eat, you rilnse it right through. You need to cooperate with the mechanics of the band, it is a tool, it doesnt strain our calories, it just makes it harder for you to continue to eat large portions. A shake or pudding or mushie cakes are just not going to give you the good nutrition you need to be healthy. Once in a while, we all eat something wrong, but it is a lot easier to get back with the program. Your band will remain, you can return to your good habits and continue to loose pounds. It wont ruin your operation.

day 3 of pre-op liquid diet- Ug! *seattle
Victoriana replied to siyah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would encourage the best you can do, be hydrated, and yes your liver does need to loose all the excess it can because all the surgery is done underneath it. I has to be held out of the way to do the banding. Every little thing helps. As far as liquids, I onlyneeded to do two days before I could have mushies. The surgeryl causes your stomach and stoma to swell and liquids are easy on it, you dont want to agrivate that area. It will be worth all of it truly. Im down 60 lbs now and cante even begin to discribe how great I feel. Good luck! -
Starting my beginning stages of Lapband!
Victoriana replied to 1Life2Live's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I want to second Dr Montgomery. He did my band and is so professional and compasionate. I never felt embarased about anything and he really wants to help. He understands what we are all about and his seminars prove it too! -
Wow!!! Take care and I sure hope you have all the emergency supplies on hand in case of a power failure.. We in Seattle had a horrible wind storm statewide. Power lines down everywhere. There are still 60 thousand people without power. I was without power for 7 days and we could see our breath inside!! our home went to 42 degrees inside and it was miserable. I will say though that the big trees in my yard stayed up and I have no damage to my home. That is an amazing blessing. We are all alive and well too! So many others are still in shelters. We had to toss our entire refrig and freezer contents out. Shuch a waste! but better safe than sorry. I do hope you are prepared to be inside a while. Do you have a way to heat your home in case of a power failure? I sure hope so and please be careful of carbon monoxide. We have had several deaths and about 70 people hospitalized, its an epidemic. People had put their bbqs inside to heat, and some had there generators inside the garage, all really serious, and sad as it is something avoidable. Please be carefull! and what a beautiful sight! Thanks for the Pics!

Organic Food Lables (Poll for school paper)
Victoriana replied to soniacan's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I buy organic, and local dairy that uses no hormones. The thing that makes me mad is how lables can say natural and be as little as ten percent natural. The other thing is how they can say whole grain and have a majority of processed flour, just because they use a little whole grain they can say whole grain. Now I know I have to look for 100 percent whole grain products. It really does make a difference in how your body uses the food, I believe anyway. And I like the taste better! -
I also take lots of pills, some are vitamines and minerals but there are 6 that I need to take every day. I take one in the morning with warm water, then 1hr later I take the second, this helps me to remember to drink my water etc. My evening pills get started befor dinner and I take about one an hour, and the largest ones I cut intofourths, and swallo the little chunks. The powder is awful!!! I sympathise wilth you, try the little chunks and try taking them about 30 min apart. I also used a teaspoon of olive oil just after the pills that were the worst ones. I know its fatening, but its the good fat, and I may be all wring but I think the good fat helps move the bad fat out. Best wishes on the meds. I know its tough, but you will find your own routine and rhythm.

Hi Phatty, I get this way once in a while and I need to go a day or so on liquids like Jack said, then I drink hot teas, sip slowly and put the cup down between sips, I also get a little more active to get my mind off of everything, I go shopping! and walk and walk and get my eyes full of eye candy. and I drink a lot of water, but not in big gulps, and my rule at those times is "easy does it" like bugs bunny used to say as he sank into his hot bath water!

Hello Sivan, Welcome and Shaloam! I know of several people who have several different support structures in place, and my Dr. encourages me to explore any avenue that will help me in my weitght loss. I believe that we are all very different and special yet there are common issues with obesity. Thats why support groups are so helpful. Catalina, How did you come to the understanding of about one fourth of the bandsters have difficulties? Im curious about that statistic as I am discussing this with a friend that might do this and she is one that would be scared off with that stat. Im not challenging you I just need more info. Thanks.

That belly fat is called omentum, remember, not momentum but omentum! Thats what he said and thats why I can remem ber it. Hes so funny and by the way my DH was in the room when he said the men can add an inch for every 35 lbs lost! I was so shocked that he could say that on tv, but I have been trying to get him to take his weight seriously, and I think he began to wonder!
