I'm coming up on three years in January postop gastric bypass. I've been very happy with my success, from 365 to 225. I have to have my gallbladder removed in the beginning of August and I'm a little nervous. The reason I'm nervous is not because Of the surgery but the fact that it's going to interfere with my routine that's been so successful. I go to the gym a minimum of five days a week with a combination of cardio and weightlifting. The surgeon who is going to remove my gallbladder already informed me that he wants me to avoid strenuous exercise for about six weeks, this is going to drive me insane! Any suggestions on how I can avoid any regression during my exercise layoff. Thank you for any help

This looks like the place I want to post About Me HW= 364 CW= 224 Height= 5’9” RNY 1/5/17 I’m 53 years old and have been exercising consistently since my surgery. Started out easy as per doctor’s recommendation and after six months started weightlifting and aerobic exercise five mornings a week. Not doing real heavy weight, in the 8 to 10 rep range. At this time, I’m at about 23% body fat. Would love to get below 20%. I consume approximately 1200 to 1500 cal daily, my weight has stayed pretty consistent for the last 4 to 6 months but my muscle mass has increased. Any suggestions on how to get below 20% safely would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any suggestions in advance -
I am coming up on a year and a half post op. I have lost over 120 lbs but in the last week or two I feel like I’m slipping into old habits. I have gained 6 lbs in the last 2 weeks and I do not want to go back to my old habits. Still exercising 4-5 times a week but eating poorly. I still want to lose another 15-20 lbs any suggestions on how to get back on eating right? thanks for the help

I am 11 wk post op and can eat just about anything at this time but i seem to be having an issue with steamed carrots or broccoli. I cook them till very soft but I still feel almost nauseous. is this normal? I have had other vegetables in Soups with no problem

i cook them till they are soft and chew them well, I am a little afraid to eat them raw. I enjoy the taste I just get nauseous for a few minutes after I eat them

I am six weeks post-op and have just been given the okay to work out with no restrictions with the stipulation of (don’t go crazy). At this time I am walking inside a mall around 3 to 4 times a week between a mile and ½ and 2 miles with no problems and it takes me anywhere from 35 to 45 minutes at a very leisurely pace. I have an elliptical that I couldn’t use up until now and I would also like to start some type of light weightlifting. I don’t want to go crazy and injure myself and slow my current progress, I’ve lost about 30 pounds and am currently 296 pounds. Any suggestions on how to work into a more well-rounded exercise program would be greatly appreciated Thanks

As you can see I’m still very new to the post-surgery world. But today I had a little success to share with everybody who will be going through the same thing in the near future. An update on how I’m feeling, gas pains are all but gone (keep walking!) I’m now at the point where the sites are very itching and some of the bandaging is coming off. I’m still a little slow but I have very little to no pain, except minor at the incision sites. Now for the little success, I just started full liquids yesterday and today I decided to have some tomato soup, I heated up a can of soup which was about 12 ounces, I sat down and started taking small sips to see how I tolerated it (no problem) it’s shocking how good tomato soup tastes after the journey I have been on. I started falling into my old eating habits of, it’s in front of me I have to finish, it’s at this point my little breakthrough came today, after eating 4 or 5 ounces of soup I realized I wasn’t hungry anymore, the old me would’ve been like, it’s there you gotta finish it, but this time I stop myself and put the remainder of the soup in the fridge for a later time. I know this is not earth shattering but I guess this is a good success on my journey going forward.

I am almost 3 weeks post-op and I’ve been following my eating instructions very closely. I know I’m early on in the process but I was wondering, when should I start tracking my calorie intake again like I was pre-op? Up to this point I have had no issues with eating, but like I said, I’m following my instructions closely. So at this point I’m not really worried about overeating, I’m just trying to make sure I get my protein and water in every day. At this point I have only been hungry maybe once or twice I’ve been losing weight at a rapid pace and my blood sugars have been a little high to my liking but stable. Any information would be greatly appreciated thanks

I am a little over 2 weeks post op and the suggestion of sleeping in a recliner for a little while worked great in a few more days you will feel much better good luck -
I really don’t know if this is normal or if I am just lucky but on day five I feel a lot better. Gas pains have subsided, got a little more sleep, and any pain I’ve been having seems to be general soreness at the incision site and a little pain if I move faster than I probably should. I didn’t do anything special for the gas pains, just try to keep moving and the hint from James Marusek on sleeping in a recliner for a little bit seems to be a big help. I haven’t felt like I had to take any pain meds and in all honesty I’m getting a little claustrophobic so I think I’m going to head outside a little later this evening. My primary food right now is still water and Jell-O, but at this point it doesn’t seem to bother me. I’ve spoke to a couple people who call this the honeymoon phase and at some point you are going to get some type of craving, I’ll just have to wait and see.

Had my surgery January 5, was released from the hospital 8 PM January 6. I’m sore, as to be expected, but honestly not that bad. My biggest complaint so far has been the gas pains, I know walking is supposed to help a lot but Philadelphia just got hit with it's first few inches of snow for the season so going outside is not the best option at this time, so I’m trying to walk back and forth at home as much as possible. Right now I can only lay down and sleep for about two hours at a time because of general discomfort, I don’t think it’s bad enough to take the pain medicine I was prescribed, plus I understand that the pain meds can slow your bowels down, and that’s the last thing I want at this time. I look forward to improving every day and I commend and congratulate those have taken this process because it is a long journey and I am aware there will be trying days to come but I did not come to this decision lightly and I am in it for the long haul. I’m scheduled for gastric bypass surgery on January 5, 2017. To date I’ve lost around 20 pounds but I still have some fear of the two week liquid diet that starts December 22. Any recommendations on how to get through the two weeks before surgery would be greatly appreciated and I will keep you up-to-date on how things are proceeding. Thank you for the support in advance
