  1. Well, not to mention I feel much better, but by losing weight pre surgery, you reduce your chances of any complications. Your surgeon will tell you, they have an easier time getting inside and doing the surgery the more weight is lost pre surgery. Also, some surgeons will require some of their patients lose some weight first before they are put under knife, depends on what the starting weight is. Also, the surgeon wants to see that you are making an effort to change your eating and lifestyle habits before surgery, because if someone isn't taking weight loss seriously, a lot of people expect the surgery to do all the work, when most importantly, it's about being ready to abandon old habits and commit to making healthier decisions. If someone got the surgery and we're not ready to change how they are eating, they would find themselves very miserable. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Yea! I had my appendix removed and it was not laparoscopic. The pain was unbearable. But with the robotic gastric sleeve it was the least painful part. The most painful thing was the gas. They inflate your abdomen with gas when they do a laparoscopic sleeve and then they close you up and you have to wait for the gas to escape through your muscles and skin. It was the most painful part of the whole thing. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

It took about 10-14 days for the approval. They also sent me a letter in the mail in addition to my surgeons office calling. I had my gastric sleeve with the robot. Makes recovery time a lot quicker. Ask about that as an option. The robot prevents the surgeon from having to pull so much on your abdomen during surgery. I'm 3 weeks post op and have not had any issues at all aside from nausea which just about everyone suffers after surgery. But other than that, life is good. 4. I am 3 weeks post op and everything is going great. My insurance is Medicaid in Colorado and I had a 6 month waiting period. I had to take nutrition classes for 6 months before they would approve surgery and I had to be at or below my starting weight by the last nutrition class. My starting weight was 389lbs Dec. 2015. Surgery was on June 13th. Weight day of surgery was 325lbs. Today I weigh 309lbs and am losing roughly 1-1.5lbs/day. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I live in Denver and was sleeved on 6/13/16. I am also on Medicaid. I went to Colorado Bariatric, where my surgeon was Dr. Irani. Medicaid pays for everything after completing 6 months of nutrition classes. If you need any more info, let me know. Btw, I just called up the surgeons office and they helped with everything. They knew the Medicaid program very well and it was a seamless process. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
