I'm so completely over Protein shakes, too. The only one I don't have to choke down is the slim fast advanced (the 20g Protein one) in caramel latte. Best day: went to Outback with the family for Father's Day and had myself a very tasty, delicious and satisfying bowl of French onion Soup broth. Ordered it without cheese (the best part) or bread or even the onions. And I'm sure the sodium was high, but damn that was sooooo good! First time I've felt satiated since surgery!

kgarrettsatx reacted to sleevenv in BMI 31-32
@@tenseintexas it's not just the carbonation you have to worry about in soda, it's the ACID. Get off the stuff now, before surgery to help you transition. I'm 13 months out (reached 23 BMI at 7 months post op) and have had carbonated mineral Water a couple of times. It hurts because you can't burp as efficiently. Now if I indulge, I put it on ice and let it sit yo flatten out a bit. A year or so ago a nurse on here told the story of her WLS brother who ulcerated his small stomach with soda and almost died. Please find that post. It's sobering.

What were your expectations? 18lbs in less than a month is fantastic! If you are getting all of your Protein, fluids and Vitamins - and not eating off plan - your not doing anything wrong! Celebrate your loss! -

kgarrettsatx reacted to KristenLe in Telling my daughter...
@@debd80 I would tell her. It's a great time to discuss healthy eating and exercise and explain how you wish you changed your habits before they got bad enough to need surgery. Find great activities to do together. Make fun and healthy recipes! Turn your experience into a lesson. Honesty is always the way to go - especially with a 13 year old. She's old enough and smart enough to know something is going on! Good luck and Congrats on your weight loss!
Make it about her helping you and not that she needs to do anything herself!

1. you have a lot more time to be a good example both of food and exercise. 13 is not even close to being raised up.
2. I told all my kids. (4 boys, 3 girls ages 28 down to 16) some approved, some didn't and a couple of them didn't really care. none of my kids have a weight problem, and I know that may complicate the issues - when you tell her I would just tell her you had this done to combat your own obesity so you can be more active in her life. if she has questions answer them honestly.
hopefully just by your family making better choices this is a problem that will resolve it's self for her without any long term effects. She's just coming into puberty, so her body has a lot of crazy changes in the next few years.

kgarrettsatx reacted to CNOEL3 in Surgery tomorrow morning and I'm thinking about cancelling.
I am experiencing all of those things. The gas is the absolute worst right now. Everyone else who had surgery in my ward yesterday seemed to not have any gas problems, since I was almost the only one up walking 5-10 laps every hr to relieve it. I've been home now for about 4hrs and I am super sore and tired. I cant have more than 3 baby sips of my broth, and about the same of my Water. I am miserable, but I don't regret the surgery 1 bit. My grandma always tells me "this too, shall pass" I just wish it would pass sooner!!!! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

kgarrettsatx reacted to SilentBotts in New relationship after sleeve surgery
I'm not shy about talking about the surgery at all. For the most part anyone I've talked to has been supportive/curious. It's probably a good bellwether for continuing the relationship. If he has issues with you having had the surgery not sure it's someone you would want to stay with anyway.

Had a weak moment the past couple of days, telling myself I should eat one last big takeout while I could. I didn't do it, however being on this pre-op and having to say no to that voice really highlights my food addiction. It's like an addict wanting another fix. I'm seeing results from the pre-op which has helped me stay strong. And it's good to know I can hear that voice and talk myself out of it. Here's hoping I get stronger at saying no as the journey progresses.
And to those with nerves, I hear ya!

We are sleeve sisters! Mine is July 26th also. I meet with my surgeon tomorrow to get preop diet, etc. The closer it gets, the more nervous I get! I'm in the same boat as you. On top of it, I've put all these things I want to get done b4 the surgery on my plate (have windows and carpets washed, house clean, laundry done, etc.) I know realistically what gets done gets done and what doesnt is no big deal. The fear of the unkown is what we have right now and there's nothing we can do about it till we are going through it. (Except ask lots of questions, watch youtube vids of other people's experiences and read) We will be fine, and we will take it one hour/day at a time. Everyone who's had it done has said its the best thing they've ever done for themselves. Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App

I go tomorrow as well and would be lying if I didn't say I was nervous. No problem with the liquid diet today since I don't even want to think about anything going in my mouth. Looking at everyone's post-op post this is completely normal and just some anticipation anxiety. Think of it this way, this time next week you'll be well into recovery. Best of luck and prayers for everyone going tomorrow.

My surgery is July 26th. I am 2 days into my liquid diet. I have been so excited, but I am now starting to freak out. I'm a nervous person anyway, but now I am asking myself all of the questions and what ifs. I am terrified of the actual surgery and even more scared of making all the right decisions after. Any other worry warts out there and what are you doing?

UGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS SUCKS!!!!!!
I had VSG done Wed. July 13th @@Kaiser Richmond and I have had so much pain from the anesthesia gas and I've been walking like crazy. Dilottit every hr, with zofran for nausea. Its worth it for sure, but it sure has been difficult to get this gas out of my chest. Plus it took me forever to go pee for the first time!!!!! Aweful. I feel a bit better today, possibly from all the walking. But its hard to drink since my throat Is sooooo sore from the breathing tube.
Sorry to sound like a whining baby, lol, I know it's what I signed up for, just wanted to tell everyone how my experience is.
