  1. I had a 6 week lifting restriction with full lifting after. I did take it easy tho to make sure nothing happened. I was nervous about messing something up. I see my surgeon every month and he does my fills. That's HIS policy. I've heard others say they hardly ever see their surgeon after surgery. Oh and my lifting restriction was 10lbs too.
  2. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do. My mom had bypass about 5 years ago and while still overweight was diagnosed as anorexic. Your mom sounds just like mine. My mom was kind of shocked into reality by that but it took her doctors getting pretty brutal with her. She still has some head issues with eating but she's doing well. Your mom really does need upwards of 1200 calories a day to lose and not put her health in to jeopardy. Try getting her on here. Even if it's not to post anything and just to read (OR you read and print off things to show her!). Hopefully she'll see how the rest of us are doing it and realize she needs to make some changes. Would you be able to get her in to counseling with someone who knows how to deal with WLS patients? Can you go to her next appt with her and talk to her drs? As painful as it is (and I know) it really IS up to your mom to make the changes she needs to. There just isn't much you can do except be there for her and keep talking to her. Don't harp on her but just keep talking. My mom said it helped when I did it. She'd never say much but she's go away and think about it for awhile. Hang in there. I'm sorry you're having to go through this.

    update on me ...

LJM, it's strange, I was just thinking about you and then you are posting! I'm so sorry you're having a rough end to your pregnancy. I'll add you to my prayers if you don't mind. Sorry you're so bored! UGH! I remember being on strict bedrest after our IVF (ended in failure) and it was soooo hard. I can sympathize with you some! Hang in there! (Are there really stalkers on here? UGH! ) Oh, FYI Heather. Just to let you know, this is LJM's first "biologically" born baby. "Natural" born usually refers to vaginal vs. c-section delivery. :tongue2: Oh and Heather, how are YOU doing? I'm so excited for both of you!

    Valentine's Day Challenge

Oh this is scary! <deep breath> Okay... I'm in! I'm nervous. I'll shoot for 10lbs! Now: 191.2 V-day: 181.2 I lost 4.4 during December so this makes me really nervous. I tend to shoot myself in the foot when I set goals! Okay, it's on my calendar. Are we doing a certain day as a WI or just our regular day (Friday for me)?

    who did it....

Yep, me too. Ate more junk than normal. Had some things that I literally only get once a year. Didn't gain any weight and actually lost a pound! Not saying I didn't feel a little icky from eating some of it. System just isn't used to it anymore. I've also discovered that I just can't handle the sweets too much anymore. They don't make me sick or anything, just too sweet tasting. And some of it doesn't even look or sound good anymore! My plan is the same as Jacqui's. Really, just to be normal again! (I didn't start gaining weight til my early 20's!) I think that's all any of us really want. That and to be healthy and live longer than we would have had we not lost the weight.

    Post Holiday Blues

Neptune, Hang in there! I agree with OD and RM. You should think about joining the Holiday Detox thread that BBK started. I'd give you a link but I'm typing one-handed right now. My lap and other hand/arm are occupied by my sleeping, and sick, 2 1/2 yr old! She was in bed!! Anyway, a favorite saying of mine is that they did stomach surgery, not brain surgery! The head stuff we have to now deal with since we don't have all of our time taken up with eating! I'm finding that to be the hardest part of this journey so far. Again, hang in there! You're doing great! Even if YOU don't think so! Oh and something else to think about: How many skinny people are you hearing moaning about how much weight they gained over the holidays? A few? A lot? Guess what? YOU DIDN'T!!!! Ha!!!

    Lap-Band, the easy way out.

Congrats on being banded! I'm so glad everything is going so well for you! That's fantastic! In some ways I would have to agree with you, in others, not so much! LOL!! When I have good restriction, I don't think about food as much and unless something just sounds really good, could care little about what I eat. But when I lose restriction, as I am now, it gets harder. I start thinking more about food, eating when I shouldn't and eating more junk. I've never been a good loser so even with the band it's coming off slowly and that's sometimes hard. But it IS coming off!! I'm completely amazed, even with little to no restriction right now, at how little I'm actually eating!! Anyway, I could go on. I really do hope that you DON'T look back at your post and wonder what you were thinking. Though you may have "those" days, I'm hoping they're few and far between!!! Best wishes!!
  9. Oh Good Lord 2b!!! I'm so sorry your knee got busted up! At least you know how you toddler will react tho! Got keep the positive! LOL! Please take care. Heal well and soon and hopefully you can have your surgery quickly! Best wishes!
  10. DO NOT CHEAT!!!!! Your surgeon has these instructions for a reason. Please go by the PROFESSIONAL you entrusted with your body and your surgery, not by a layperson who just happened to have the same surgery as you! That's dangerous and irresponsible of you. You CAN do this! It's only 2 more days! You can do anything for just 2 more days. Best wishes!
  11. Try to get that off this weekend if you can. Do you have any Protein shakes you could replace a couple of meals with? Make sure you drink lots of Water. I always bloat if I don't drink enough and that can mean a 2-7lb gain for me! My surgeon told me that if I gained an ounce, he'd cancel me and send me home! My scale never reads the same as theirs. What I'd do is weigh before or after at home and whatever that number said, I'd make sure to stay below it. Their scale typically weighs a lb or 2 more than mine. So I'd just make sure to stay below what mine said at the time. Best wishes!!!
  12. awwwwww  What a wonderful realization and a fantastic post! Thank you for sharing!

    Struggling badly...

I don't have any advice for you but wanted to throw my support behind you! 100%!!!! This is all a learning experience for us. I'm having a hard time with wanting to snack when I'm not even hungry. Another thing I realized is that I fix something really good for dinner and want to eat a lot of it. I'm forcing a little more than I should in b/c I know I'm not going to be hungry later and able to come back to it! That is just plain sabotaging myself!!! It just dawned on me this AM that that's what I've been doing! Got to work on that before I stretch my pouch. Hang in there! Keep coming back to the site for support! We're all in this together! HUGS!!!!
  14. Shockingly I had a loss! Last week: 192.2 This week: 191.2 Total Loss: 1lb Wasn't sure. Wed and Thurs had some challenges. Made some bad choices but overall, did okay. WAY better than what would have happened before surgery! Did feel icky with the stuff I ate. Not used to eating some of this stuff anymore! Made sure to get all of my Water in yesterday. Will work on that again today. I was getting lazy with that. Was also able to get on the treadmill a couple of times this week and that felt good. Need to remember that feeling to keep me motivated to keep getting on that thing! Have a great week all!

    drinking during meals

I'm getting much better about that. I don't think you have to worry about stretching your pouch this early BUT you do need to get in better habits for yourself now. According to my surgeon, it's not so much that you can stretch your pouch, it's that you're washing your food through the pouch faster, so you end up eating more and you don't stay full as long. Again, that's what MY surgeon told me. BigPapa, if you can do this without drinking it, order a glass of Water and just leave it on the table. That helps A LOT! Wait staff have a hard time with this as they are so trained to keep drinks coming and filled, they just don't know what to do with someone who doesn't want a drink!
  16. Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry you went thru all of that. I really hope that fever turns out to be nothing but after surgery, you have to be careful!!! I had surgery at 8:30 the morning and went home about 4:30PM the same day. I didn't have any major problems. Just the standard pain and gas but even the gas wasn't too horrible and the pain was totally managed by the Lotrab (sp?) that I was taking. Took me 1 1/2 weeks to lose the 7lbs gained during surgery! I hope all goes well for you! Take good care!
  17. Congrats to everyone just for DOING this!!! I've been able to get on the treadmill a couple of times. It feels REALLY good to get back to that. Wed and Thurs were challenges but not too bad. Even the bad choices weren't NEAR as bad as before surgery. Felt kinda icky tho since I'm not used to eating some of that stuff anymore. Lost a lb so far this week. Keep up the great work everyone!

Should Their be Laws/Requirments for Becomming Parents?

Oh and I forgot to add that I don't agree. The government has their nose in to things they shouldn't already. They do not need to be regulating who can and can not become pregnant.

Should Their be Laws/Requirments for Becomming Parents?

Interesting. As an adoptive mom, DH and I DID have to jump through those hoops and laws to become parents. If we hadn't wanted it [to become parents] so bad, we wouldn't have made it through the process. It was long, tons of paperwork and in some cases utterly ridiculous. BUT that was what was required and so that's what we did. Are there regrets? NONE!!! We have a beautiful daughter who is 2 1/2 years old now. We picked her up from the hospital when she was 2 days old. She's smart, funny and a total delight, even when she's in Drama Queen mode which is often since it includes when she's happy or sad or ... ! It makes me angry to hear of what people do to their children. We have a case near us of a 4 year old girl who was kidnapped from a van, beaten, raped and partially buried alive in a near-by raisin field. She and several other children (cousins, siblings and friends) were sleeping in the van in the driveway while their parents were at a Christmas Eve party at a relative's house. A family friend at the party is the one who took her. Her parents and some family members are the ones who found her shortly after, then called police. Everyone is crying poor little girl (of course, it's horrible what she went through!) AND oh those poor parents! EXCUSE ME! They are the ones who put her in danger to begin with! How dare they put their daughter in a VAN with other children in the DRIVEWAY to sleep! Let alone we had a storm coming in and temps were in the high 20s, low 30s that night!!!!! Could it not have troubled the family (extended) to clear a bedroom for the children to sleep in while the party was going on?!! Could it not have troubled the parents of this poor little girl to have not asked for a place INSIDE the home to lay their precious girl down for sleep? If that wasn't possible, why then did the parents not go home where their daughter could have slept warm and comfortable in her own bed? Just boggles my mind! There is no talk of charging any of the parents with neglect in putting their children in a van to sleep in frigid temps in the driveway. The man who beat, raped and tried to kill the little girl is in jail at this point. I just hope that little girl gets the counseling and care she needs in order to have a somewhat decent life in the aftermath of what was done to her. I doubt that will happen though based on the activities of her parents. Whew! Okay. Can we say hot-button issue for Michelle? LOL! Sorry I went off. This has been pissing me off since I first heard about it. I have nightmares about the horrible things that could happen to DD. The least of which is what happened to this 4 year old girl. I feel a HUGE responsibility to protect and raise my DD right. She was voluntarily placed in our arms by her birthmother b/c she thought we would be the best parents for her daughter. I take that very seriously. I would too if I had given birth to DD myself BUT there is a little added pressure b/c DD is adopted. Anyway. I'm done now!
  20. God willing, it could be! It's not the band itself, it's the WL. Being overweight seriously messes up the hormones for most of us. Estrogen is stored in our fat cells. The more fat cells, the more Estrogen is stored in our bodies. That's also why a lot of have a lot of period bleeding after surgery and when we're losing pretty fast. Myself, I can't get pregnant, even with intervention (we finally tried IVF after all the other stuff we went thru). BUT even when I was thin, I couldn't get pregnant. My hormones have been messed up since I started puberty! Seriously! I'm on Depo shots now to stop everything altogether. Not interested in getting pregnant anymore. We have our beautiful daughter (thru adoption) and so my dream of being a mom is fulfilled. Doesn't matter to me how it happened. I really hope you are blessed with a healthy and wonderful pregnancy! Take care!
  21. My name is Michelle and I too am a scale addict. I will actually weigh myself in the middle of the night when I get up to go to the bathroom. It sits right next to the toilet, how can I NOT get on the scale to see what it says?! Feel like I'm doing pretty good. Not doing the full liquid thing but am doing part-day liquids. Dinners are really healthy and I'm cutting back on my portions again and feeling full anyway, so I WAS eating too much. Monday AM was 192 even and this AM was 191.4. Threw out the last of FIL's peanut brittle. I just needed to be DONE with it! What little is left is stuff I won't eat so DH and DD can have it if they want it. DD isn't a big sweet eater so she pretty much leaves it alone except for a small taste once or twice a day. At 2 1/2 she's really good. Loves her veggies and fruit! Very happy with myself. I was up before everyone else this AM. Threw a load of laundry in the dryer, another in to the washer and then got on the treadmill for 45 minutes and did over 1 1/4 miles. Felt REALLY good! I'm officially re-motivated to getting back on that thing more often! Glad to see every one is doing well. Keep up the great work!

    Lettuce/Salad

Call your surgeon. I'd say it's too soon for salad items. Anything with lots of "roughage" actually. You stomach is still healing and your stomach has to churn to digest food. With things like salad, it'd have to churn a lot and for a long time. I'd wait but at least call your surgeon to find out from him how soon he/she thinks it'd be okay to try it.

    Can I delete my info?

DESI, hang in there! Sometimes it takes awhile. Blogs usually just get read. Threads, depending on the question or issue at hand get any where from 0 to tons of answers. It just depends on who happens to be on at any given time and who may have an answer to the question or is having the same types of issues, etc. I've been on the boards since Feb and I've had threads that have not gotten any answers to threads with a couple of pages. That's just kind of the way it is with boards period. They're all like that. Most people on here are great and so willing to help or give you the kick in the butt that you need. Just keep trying. As far as checking on here all the time to check your threads, set it up so you get an e-mail when you have a reply. That would make it easier for you. You can change that in your profile stuff or you can do it for threads as you post. I'm on here often enough that I don't choose to do that. I check my subscribed threads first, then if time allows, I'll head to new posts. Best Wishes! And WELCOME!!!!

    Hair Loss

I get my [chewable] Biotin from my local health store. It's got 5000 mcg in each tablet. I take it 2x a day. If your grocery store has a nice natural foods section, check in there to see if they have it. I don't know that it would be in the pharmacy section, tho it could be. B/c my DD is taking a multi as well, I just buy the huge bottles of kids gummy vits at costco. I actually take 2, 2x a day. Your Centrims should be plenty. I would split the dose. Take 1 in the AM and 1 in the afternoon. You'll absorb more of the vits that way. Are you getting enough Iron? That's been a problem for me and I'm feeling better since starting a nice liquid one (that doesn't cause constipation) about 2 weeks ago. I just keep reminding myself that this too shall pass... eventually! The amount of hair I'm losing is really upsetting me. Tho I am blessed it's not coming out in chunks so I have no bald spots. It's just an overall loss and my hair is getting pretty thin. Hang in there!
  25. Hi Brandy! I'm in too. I have a dinner thing to go to Mon PM so that will be tough. I'm just planning to do the best I can. I haven't gained but I've gotten off track just by eating stuff I haven't eaten in months, let alone since last year at this time! (MIL's Christmas Applecake, FIL's homemade fudge, peanut brittle, Cookies, etc.) I'm a little worried about stretching my pouch too. Seems like I'm eating too much at one time. I'm having a really hard time with the exercise. This time of year just sucks for that. Work is going to be getting busier with tax stuff and that's just exhausting! Anyway. Thanks for doing this!
