Oops! Sorry about that! Didn't want to assume there was anything wrong, just if there was, get help. I'm glad you 2 had a talk about it. And being newly married, there's all kinds of things you'll learn that you never thought about! DH does that to me sometimes and it drives me nuts. It's b/c we're close. He would never do that to friend but ... I learned how to work on cars in HS and was REALLY good at it. Loved it too. DH and I can NOT work on a car together! He gets frustrated and I get the brunt of it. He won't do the same to a friend. So, I never get to work on cars anymore. Of course now our trucks are new enough that I can't but still. I miss it! If you decide to later, it really IS okay to have something of your own that you do and enjoy. DH and I have been married for 21 yrs, together for 22. We do most everything together. He's a fireman so he's gone half the week at work so when he is home we try to do most everything together with our DD. BUT he has his soccer on Sunday afternoons and I have my Bunco game once a month and wls support group once a month. Communication is the key. Never forget that! Doesn't mean you need to talk things to death but you need to be checking in with each other often and esp if it's something that's bothering one or the other of you. Best wishes!!

How many banders can eat bread without problems? How much and when?
heartfire replied to coloradobanding's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I get them at my little local natural Vitamin store. Heck you might even find them in the natural foods section at your grocery store. I've never looked. I should just in case I can't get them for some reason at my regular place. -
Beth, I'm guessing she has some form of insurance b/c she birthed them at Kaiser. They don't take non-insured. She probably had insurance thru her job. I'm just guessing tho. My nephew was born almost 3 months early, (yea, WAY early, we almost lost him a couple of times) and their bill after insurance and Children's Hospital forgiving a huge portion of it was still around $200,000!!! I think they're still paying them and nephew is 9 now! It's like having another mortgage!

How well do you tolerate oatmeal?
heartfire replied to smatyas's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks you two! I'm going to try more of the whole grains too. I found the barley recipe and I'm looking forward to trying it too. -
I'm so hit and miss with the news these days so sorry if this has been covered but... Does anyone KNOW how many embryos were actually implanted? If it was 8 (or more) then there are some serious questions for the clinic. There IS a possibility, as I outlined in my earlier post, that several eggs could have split becoming twins. I do know that the medical infertility community would consider this an IVF failure. Their aim is for as few babies as possible and as healthy as possible. The possibility of her losing one or more is still there. These babies are little and unfortunately, a lot can still go wrong. For the sake of the kids, I hope not. But it is a possibility. I can't even imagine how she could do this on her own. I mean, I had to go "under" while the dr. implanted, stay on my back for 24hrs, except for VERY quick potty breaks etc. I just can't imagine! The whole thing just boggles my mind anyway. I agree about her being VERY irresponsible.

Jenny Craig's new Campaign ::eye roll::
heartfire replied to Camel_Cracker's topic in The Gals' Room
Watch the sodium in those. I did NutriSystem as one of my many attempts to lose weight and the sodium in those things is insane! I don't know anything about Jenny Craig's food tho, just something to watch for if you decide to go for it. My DD (2 1/2) has decided she wants one of the hunger monsters from WW! Ms. Rashad has never looked overweight to me. And she's so excited about losing 5lbs in her first week. Haven't ALL of us experienced a huge loss the 1st week of a new diet? I know I have. It's what happens after that that isn't go great! LOL! -

I'm not sure how to help you. A lot of men are competitive by nature and maybe, without realizing it he's turned your swim time into a competition. Not saying that's right, just saying that could be what's happening. For yourself, you need to keep swimming. Even if he gives it up. That is his choice and there isn't anything you can do about it. I'd still invite him to go with you, but I wouldn't push him about it. And maybe it's not something he really enjoys. At this point you don't really know what he's thinking and until/unless he tells you, it's all a guessing game. If you two are having issues other than the swimming (the statement about this pushing you 2 further apart is what I'm referring too) then it might be a good idea to find a marriage counselor and get some things worked/talked out. Best wishes to you! I love to swim. I wish I had access to a pool year-round!

I need motivation re:exercise please
heartfire replied to thinkingslim70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a hard time getting the exercise in as well. I have a treadmill that I hardly ever use. I did get on it again this AM and felt good doing so. Just need to remember that feeling. I'm a SAHM with a 2 1/2 yr old and work part-time from home. I can make all sorts of excuses to not exercise. One thing we've started doing is walking up to the main road to get our mail. Takes about 20/25 minutes and going is uphill. It's not brisk by any means (too busy watching the road and the kiddo!) but it IS walking and getting out in the fresh air. DD enjoys it too. And it's fun. Makes a nice break in the day as well. I think the key is just finding something that interests you. Even if you think it's more game than exercise. That makes it even better! If you're enjoying the wii, then get on it and play! I hope I can find something that gets me going! Best wishes! -
How well do you tolerate oatmeal?
heartfire replied to smatyas's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I can't handle oatmeal. It's a texture thing. Long been that way, has nothing to do with banding. I did find an instant alternative this last week that I love. It's called Elements and it's from Roman Meal. Uses several different types of whole grains then adds seeds, nuts, dried fruit, etc. They have 4 different flavors. We've only tried 1 so far. I add a tsp of honey to it to enhance the flavor. I bet the Peanut Butter would be good in it too. Questions. Have any of you tried barley for hot Cereal? I found a recipe, I think in my new Clean Eating mag, that I want to try. How much peanut butter do you add? Does it mix well? I'm figuring you add it when you add the boiling Water or it wouldn't mix well. Details please! Jacqui, does the real stuff you use, taste a lot different than instant? Is the texture a lot different? Maybe that would change my problem with the texture thing. (I can't handle most yogurts or any cottage cheese either.) Thanks! -
What is your fave broth/bouillon brand?
heartfire replied to Babe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I did the same as Jodi, tho I wasn't on clear liquids. I just needed something different. What I did tho was strain the broth and give all the goodies to my 2 1/2 yr old in a bowl. She loved it! And like Jodi, no waste! Perfect! Tho, if you have a Trader Joe's in your area, they have a new line of broth. Comes in small boxes and 12 packets to a box. It's not powder and it's not liquid, per se. It's more of a thick sauce. They have veggie, chicken and beef. The stuff tastes so good! Like real beef stew broth. I've been having fun adding it to stews and such and the flavor is so enhanced, it's great. What would have been good before with another broth, is just that much better with this stuff. Best wishes with your process! -

Steelers: Pittsburghese 101 (words you might need for watching the Super Bowl)
heartfire replied to Band_Groupie's topic in The Lounge
That's funny! What's strange is that I actually figured out what most of them were before you told me! LOL! We are great Steelers fans! Despite both of us being born and bred Californians. DH became a fan as a kid in the early 70's, before they even won their first superbowl that decade! I was converted after marriage! LOL! We are SO excited! Got our Snacks planned out and we're ready! Have a GREAT Sunday!!! -
Very true. I totally agree with you!

Very strange situation. I don't know who did the IVF, tho Kaiser might be doing it now, they weren't 5 yrs ago when we went through it. We had to go outside and self-pay. I know in our situation, our doctor was considering implanting all of our embryos. (Pretty rare for him as he normally doesn't implant more than 4.) Our odds were pretty pitiful and we had 7 embryos. We lost 3 overnight before implantation. We implanted 4 so we had the potential for 8 if all 4 embryos split and became twins. We would have had 4 sets of twins! That, of course is in the most rarest of situations. We would not have done selective abortion. We didn't have to worry about it as none "took" and we lost all 4 embryos. I was shocked when I heard she already had 6 young kids at home! At first I was thinking maybe she was like that Jon and Kate show, they just wanted one more and got 6! Now I'm not so sure! No wonder she doesn't want her name out, then people can find out all about her and she doesn't want that! It'll be interesting as more gets out. ~~~~~~ And Beth, don't EVEN get me started on this state! I'm so mad right now! If the Governor gets his way, the potential is there for DH and I to lose everything we've worked for all of our 21yr marriage!

Help! How do you take all the vitamins
heartfire replied to Carolina Mom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks! I'll look into that more. I really don't want to be taking all this stuff wrong. There are tons of great herbal teas out there. If they are straight herbal only, no black tea at all, they should be caffeine free and most will say so fairly prominently on the packaging. Green tea and I think, white tea (not sure, I don't know much about it yet), has caffeine in it as well so pay attention to that as well. Black tea has the most. I don't know what brands you have in your area but Bigelow is easily found and they have some nice ones, as does Good Earth. Stash and Yogi have some great teas but are harder to find. You can order those from their websites if you want find a particular tea. Have fun finding ones you like! -
Help! How do you take all the vitamins
heartfire replied to Carolina Mom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
UGH! Had a great reply all typed out for you earlier and the site went down on me! I'll try again! All of the supplements but the Omega, probiotic, Biotin and immune c are required by my surgeon. I split up the doses to make sure I absorb as much as possible. I double up the gummies b/c they're for children (my DD takes them too so I buy the huge bottles at Costco!). I have never heard of the calcium/multi thing. Do you remember where you heard it? I'd love to know more. I read a lot and talk to my local herbalist so I know what I'm taking and why but that certainly doesn't mean I know much of anything! The 2hr thing I've always heard of for the calcium/iron. If I need to split up my calcium and multi, I'd like to know about it! Thanks! Oh! Have you tried hot tea in the AM before trying to take your pills? I'm tight in the AM and that helps a lot. Take care! -
Help! How do you take all the vitamins
heartfire replied to Carolina Mom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This is my list and when I take them. Don't know if this helps at all. Multi-Vit, gummies - 2, twice a day, AM before Breakfast and mid afternoon Immune C, gummies - 2, twice a day (during cold/flu season), with the multi Biotin, lozenge - 1, twice a day, with the multi Calcium w/D, chew - 1, twice a day, with the multi Acidophilus, itty bitty pills - 1, twice a day (during cold/flu season, otherwise just 1 in the AM), with the multi B Complex w/sublingual 12, liquid - 1 dropper, once a day, with the multi Omega 3, liquid - 1tsp, twice a day, with the multi Blood Pressure, pill - 1, once a day, with the multi Iron, liquid - 2tsp, twice a day, once before lunch and once before dinner, ALWAYS 2hrs from the calcium chew Because everything except the BP med and the Acidophilus are in liquid or chewable form, I have no problem with this. Sometimes my problem stems from a scheduling thing and making sure the iron and the calcium aren't too close together. Sometimes if I'm gone in the afternoon, but home for dinner, I'll take the iron like normal, then 2hrs later will take the afternoon dose. OR if not home til after dinner, take the afternoon dose as soon as I get home, then take the iron before bed, making sure again about the 2hrs. If I know I'm going to get home REALLY late, I'll take the afternoon stuff with me, foregoing the acidophilus and omega b/c they have to stay refrigerated (as does the iron). I'll still take the iron before bed but I won't have missed the afternoon dose of the most important stuff. I haven't traveled yet, other than to my mom's, so I'm not sure how to handle that other than maybe taking a small ice chest to keep the cold stuff in. Once you get a routine, it helps. I'm way better about taking my stuff now then I was before surgery! Sorry this is so long, hope it helps, at least a little. Take care. -
No words of wisdom. Just lots of support, prayers and hugs that this turns out okay. Let us know what happens and how you're doing. Both Jack and Jacqui have some great advice. Take it to heart. Hang in there!

Shouldn't I have more energy?
heartfire replied to als74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there. It took me a full 4+ months before I didn't feel like I needed a nap several times a day. It's all surgery. Are you sure you're getting enough of the B Vitamins? Double check, just in case. To make sure I get enough, I take a liquid multi-B that includes a sublingual 12. A dropper full a day, held under the tongue for 30 seconds then swallowed. I'll know more about my numbers next week when I see my surgeon. I don't know about the caffeine. My doc just says no calorie drinks. Mood stuff tends to happen for some time after surgery as well. Again, hang in there. All of a sudden, one day you'll realize that you're not as tired as you were and you haven't bitten any heads off in some time! LOL! Best wishes! -
Should Their be Laws/Requirments for Becomming Parents?
heartfire replied to MeatballsMom's topic in Rants & Raves
Ummm, if your post was for me. You didn't need to point any of that out for me. DH and I were NEVER told all the hoops and paperwork were for OUR benefit. We knew up front that it's all for the State's benefit. Both of us have worked with/for Government for years and darn well know where their interests lie. But, uh, thanks, I guess. -
That's a great idea, Mac! Never thought of re-directing the granny! You're so smart! I'm trying hard not to do food rewards with my DD (2 1/2yrs old). She's potty training now and I've gotten lots of advice () and some of that included candy every time she goes, has a dry diaper, etc. and taking her to lunch and dinner for good days or weeks. I just won't do it. We have a sticker chart and she loves that. It's hard not to reward with food. I always want to go there first. :scared2:
