Do you get sick of other people.......
heartfire replied to lacasst's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep. Oh! You meant in relation to the band. That's why I only told a few people. I was on WW about 5/6 yrs ago and had gotten down to 185. EVERYONE knew I was on WW and I was constantly asked can you eat that... how much have you lost... how much further... etc. I HATED IT!!! Several in our congregation have had bypass. One woman gained all of her weight back and says it's the worst thing she ever did. Another woman had it a yr ago as I was starting my own process for the band and she stood up in front of the whole congregation to tell everyone. She's done really well in the last year. BUT people just don't GET IT with the band and I did not want my loss to be compared with her loss and speed of it or go through what I went through on WW all those years ago. Now when people ask, I just tell them I'm working on it. I leave it at that and change the subject. -
Favorite "post-band" chain restaurant?
heartfire replied to cookiebaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We don't eat at chains very often b/c where we live we only have fast food chains. the sit-downs are all local. BUT when we were in the city last month to take DH's parents out to dinner for their b-days, we went to Claimjumpers and I had a great dinner that was perfect. It's on their appetizer menu and it's 2 crabcakes with a small side of organic baby greens lightly dressed in a yummy dressing. Comes with 2 dipping sauces. Both were good but used sparingly. It was perfect. I'd order it again if we go back. -
I posted on the final WI thread but I'll post here too. Start: 191.2 Goal: 181.2 End: 184.4 Loss: 6.8 Happy with that. Lellow and Gilta want to do another challenge but Gilta wants a break. I've offered to do an Easter Sunday Challenge. Start would be tomorrow the 15th and end would be Easter Sunday, April 12th. It's about 8 weeks (if I counted right!). If you're interested, let me know. I can start a new thread for it tonight and post every Sat PM for the end of the week.

All I want is chocolate and comfort food at the moment....
heartfire replied to Roheryn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh Good Lord!!! What does having an antibiotic that's easy to consume have anything to do with eating around the band???!!! What an idiot!! I'd file a complaint! She had no right to even DISCUSS your band with you other than to make sure any Rx she gave you wouldn't interfere! UGH! I'm sorry you're so sick. I was hoping it was just a bad cold. Not like that's any fun but they're just irritating. I sure hope you're feeling better soon. Take care! -
I'm sure the docs had a bloody fit when you suggested that! Makes sense to the rest of us considering the recovery time tho! LOL! If your reduction would be beneficial health-wise I would think the sooner the better. BUT I totally get the work, home, finances angle too. Tough decision.

Final Thursday Check - Valentine's Day Challenge
heartfire replied to gilta's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Start: 191.2 Goal: 181.2 Finish: 184.4 Loss: 6.8lbs I'm really happy with that. I didn't think I was even going to do that much. I've been pretty sick all week so had a 3lb loss this week. Hopefully it holds once I get my appetite back! Good job everyone! Lellow, what about Easter as a new challenge? It's Sunday, April 12th this year. That would be about 8 weeks (if I counted right) starting tomorrow. If everyone wants and Gilta wants a break, I don't mind doing the weekly threads for it. Let me know. Gilta, hang in there. You've got a lot going on, it sounds like. Take care of yourself! (((Hugs))) -
Friday Morning Weigh-Ins - Friday the 13th of Feb
heartfire replied to lellow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Brad, isn't that so fun! DD will be having her 3rd in May. So Fun! I had the crud too this week. Really bad head cold. Last week: 187.4 This week: 184.4 Total loss: 3lbs! We'll see if I gain any of it back once I feel like eating again. Still sick and very little appetite. If this holds tho, I hit some goals for myself. 1. 186 was 50lbs lost since starting the process last year. 2. 185 was the lowest I'd gotten on WW 5 years ago before starting my regain. 3. 183 will be halfway to my goal of 130. Not sure about my goal of 130 tho. I haven't seen that number since I was 20yrs old and had started gaining! I'm 40 now and don't know if 130 is even realistic. I figure I'll re-evaluate when I get down there. I might be perfectly happy (and look better) at around 140. Sounds like a lot of us have been or are sick. I hope everyone is feeling much better soon! Take care and have a great week! -
That's what I kind of thought but wasn't sure. I will also need to follow up with the endocrinologist for several months to confirm the pituitary is still functioning properly. Even things that were working before could in theory be damaged now due to all the poking and prodding. I'll also have to have follow up MRI's every 6 months for the next several years. I certainly hope everything heals well and all your tests come back clear. So frustrating. My husband is the one always whining about some health complaint and running to the doc 2-3 times a month for one reason or the other. I go 2-3 times per year max many years only once. But somehow I've managed to rack up 5 surgeries in our 16 years of marriage. I told him next time is his turn. Isn't that how it normally works?! LOL! But then again I'd love to have a breast reduction sometime down the road. I'd love to have enlargement surgery. I can't even fill a B cup and I'm still losing! :frown: I doubt it'll ever happen tho. Too much money!

Oh Ro! I'm so sorry you're sick now too. Thank goodness you got an unfill! Go get some cough suppressant! You don't want to be coughing that hard anymore! I know that the cause of the beautiful sunsets and moon are horrible but they really do produce beautiful results! That pic is cool looking. I'm glad they caught one person. They'd better guard him well tho! I can't understand the people that intentionally set these fires, killing a lot of people and damaging so much property and then to go back and re-light them????!!!!! I just don't get it! Take care of yourself! Feel better soon! -
Oh jeeze, you've been thru the wringer! How do they know the meninges is healed? Is it the lack of excess Fluid that tells them? Is the pituitary gland compromised now or will it go back to normal? What about your sinus passages? Will you be able to breathe normally again or is this just from surgery? Sorry for all of the questions. I so can't imagine cracking the INSIDE of my lips. I have enough problems right now with the OUTSIDE! (I have a bad cold and I'm not drinking enough.) I would have been sobbing by the time someone got to me. I don't want you to even worry about what they think of you now. They messed up and should get in trouble! Take care of yourself.

That is a totally cool NSV!!! And so glad your chest was clear and you're feeling better.

I also needed an unfill, and i am scared my band may have slipped because of it....
heartfire replied to bindi2203's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
bindi, I don't think you slipped your band either. Just be gentle with yourself for a time and go easy with any "hard" foods. Probably go easy when it comes time to re-fill. Take care! -
Good Lord! 50% AND they took it out thru your nose!?! I'm not even sure how that is possible. I hope your healing time is easy and quick. What is your prognosis now? Was it encapsulated? Best wishes for your recovery!

As long as you're getting fluids down, you could probably wait to see your surgeon again. I'd call him tho to see what he wants you to do. I've been sick with a bad cold for a week now. A couple of days before coming down with it, I'd gotten another fill and had good restriction. Now, I'm really tight. I'm able to eat a little later in the day but I have to be very careful about chewing enough before swallowing. In the AM I'm drinking hot tea and Protein Shakes. Yesterday I was able to do an egg but it took me a REALLY long time to eat it and I was tired after. Decided to just stick with a shake in the AM for now. I didn't know I was getting sick or I would've waited til I got better. I've seen lots of people on here say that they've gotten tighter when they get sick. I think it has to do with the inflammation of everything. Your sinuses are tied into the whole digestive system (hence food or liquids coming out your nose when laughing or vomiting, or when your sinuses are draining and you get an upset stomach). Anyway, hang in there and call your surgeon to see what he/she says. If all of a sudden, you can NOT get fluids down, get in ASAP!! Don't mess around with it. Hope you feel better soon.

The cough can cause band slipage or damage to my band?
heartfire replied to Gabband's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Delsym Cough suppressant works really well. I've got it on hand for cold season. (I "like" the orange flavor, haven't tried the grape flavor yet.) I've been sick for a week now and have been VERY tight. My cold is a lot of sinus stuff w/draining (sorry). I'd had a fill a couple of days before getting sick but was doing fine til coming down with the cold. We'll see what happens when this thing finally goes away! -
I am so very sorry.

Sheesh! Gone for a couple of days b/c I'm sick have to read about 10pgs to catch up! JUDGEMENTAL! Excuse me! Have you looked a mirror lately? Isn't that what this post just did to me? And WHERE in my post did I say I couldn't handle it? If I couldn't handle it, I would never have become a mother! I just said in my situation, there are some hard days and I'm a SAHM and have only 1 kid w/a DH whose gone half the week and have no help on those days. Agreed. I agree. DH and I have never been on public assistance. We paid for our own IVF and our daughter's adoption OURSELVES!!! If we had not been able to pay for either OURSELVES we would not have done either. I don't know that she will get a windfall. I hope she does so that my tax dollars can go to something else BUT people are pretty irritated and I don't know that it will happen. No, I'm sure he was hoping to help people who needed it get a "leg up" and get on their feet. NOT the people who are playing the system as she obviously is! I did not watch the Dateline interview. On one hand, I wanted to see what she had to say. On the other hand, I knew it would tick me off. I don't feel good enough for that kind of energy expenditure! LOL! I went to bed instead! The whole thing just irritates me. She was living at home, NOT paying anything in to the household (according to her mother) and could not afford the kids she already had. She should not have even tried for ONE more! She can't afford 6, let alone 7, or now 14! I feel for the kids. They ALL are going to suffer for her selfishness, unfortunately.

heartfire replied to Roheryn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks! That's kind of what I was thinking too. I decided to wait. I can get things down, I just have to be very careful and the mornings are the hardest. AND the more congested I am, the tighter I've noticed I am. If I take my med, once I start clearing some, I loosen up some. I hope your Water supply is okay! I can't believe that idiot with the grinder. We get the idiot ones all the time too. It's the intentional ones that are the worst tho. They are intentionally trying to hurt people. Please stay safe! -
I'd like to add my thoughts and prayers as well. Living in California, we see our share of bad fires (and DH is a fireman for our state) but this is just horrible. I really hope they find the murderers who started these fires but it's probably not going to happen. Arson is easy to prove, what's hard is finding the person(s) responsible and prosecuting them. This is just horrible. Stay safe!

heartfire replied to Roheryn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ro, I have been horrified with the news of what's happening in your area. I'm so sorry. We get some pretty bad ones here in California. Usually the firestorms we have don't take a lot of people, just land and buildings. DH is a fireman for the state so I worry about him when he's out. This is a tough time and you need to be gentle with yourself. Good for you for not dogging in to the chocolate (tho I'd be tempted too). It's the stopping that I'd have problems with. I am so glad you're feeling better with your unfill. I've been dickering with the idea of getting one too. I'm going to wait til I feel better tho to decide. I've got a bad cold right now and I think that's actually my problem. Hang in there. Lots of hugs and prayers to you. Stay safe! -
LBT changes lives - non weight-related LBT story!
heartfire replied to gadgetlady's topic in The Lounge
He is so adorable! Thanks for posting an update! I'm thrilled that the birth family is so supportive. It helps everyone a lot! Esp Jack! Give your friends my best wishes, from one adoptive mom to another adoptive family!! -
Steve, in our case, when DH retires, DD will still be in HS. If something happens to us, we want her taken care of. If something happens to DH, I need the income to help us survive. That's just our scenario. On another note, some one mentioned earlier about having been hospitalized and insurance not liking that. I was outpatient for my surgery so in that regard, I should be okay. It would be if they have a problem with bariatric surgery and having had it less than a year ago. Guess I'll find out when we try it!
-
Hang in there, Tina and stay strong in your decision. I caught the comment regarding your mom. Yes, it would be nice to have her support and as her daughter, she needs to support you BUT please don't count on her support. It could also mean that she is just in shock and hasn't been able to react the way you would wish. Give her time. Also, if she is "old school" women don't divorce their husbands over this and esp if there are children involved, so she could be coming from that position. I have no idea. It's just a thought. Try giving her a couple of days and talking to her again. Even saying that you need her support even if she doesn't necessarily approve. I'm sending lots of best wishes. Take care!

How many banders can eat bread without problems? How much and when?
heartfire replied to coloradobanding's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Please don't cheat. I know it's hard! Right now is the time for healing. Don't try to lose weight right now. Eat when you're hungry and only when you're hungry. Eat as healthy as you can. Start exercising if you haven't started already. Even just walking, get moving. The reason for the special diet right now is so you can heal. You have to be gentle with your new stomach while it heals. The sutures need to get settled and the band needs to seat in it's new place. Hang in there.
