  1. It kind of started a few weeks ago. It's not just that I have no appetite, or that I've lost enjoyment in food, but I actually dislike eating. I can tolerate all foods I've tried, including nuts, salads, etc. I'm not having any major side effects that would cause this (minor GERD and minor discomfort if I don't chew enough). If I wasn't worried about the health effect, I'd seriously stop eating altogether. This happened once pre-op temporarily years ago when I also went on a low-carb diet, which is generally what I've been following post-op. I've upped my carbs to see if it helps, but still I dislike eating. Any others struggling with this? What do you do to overcome it? I try treating myself to favourite foods (healthy versions of them) but even then, eating is a chore. Pre-op me would have rolled my eyes and said I shouldn't complain, but it's actually work to get enough nutrition.

    Trolls

It seemed to me that there was some tough love being given, as the tone of the original post was head scratching in its humour. Concerned people wanted to make sure the gravity of the situation was understood. Though maybe it could have been done more gently, we're all adults. The poster's reaction was defensive and attacking. This in turn will breed more emotions. If I do something harmful to my health and mention it here, I HOPE someone gives me some tough love even if it doesn't feel well intentioned in the moment.
  3. I struggle to get my protein to 60 without using Protein shakes. I'm so sick of the taste of them though. How do you manage to get in that much protein and do you have room for anything else?
  4. I can walk for 1.5 hours when before 15 minutes would have been all I could do. I can stand for several hours at work now per day instead of sitting. I just hit my two-month mark yesterday and am down 31.5 lbs. Very motivated! Before (Starting weight of 238) Two Months (30-31 lbs lost)

  12. Funny ... I just asked this, question at the seminar and doc said it can stretch...hmmmm. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App VSG revision due to stretching is a thing and surgeons wouldn't offer it if it didn't happen. For example http://www.revisionalsurgery.com/bariatric-revision-surgery/sleeve-revision-surgery/

    Panko, "unfried" foods?

I would just try one bite first time, make sure to chew until the crumbs are softened in your mouth, then get braver next time if all goes well! PS - Fatpunk (I lol'd) meet fat metalhead

    Less and less food

I'm 7 weeks post op and have been completely losing my appetite as well. The last handful of days I wouldn't eat at all if I wasn't concerned for the health impacts. I'm trying to get creative with ideas that are super appetizing even if it's not my optimal nutrition. Since I'm low-carbing it, last night I made a tiny mock pizza as that was always a favorite food. I did at least eat that but still didn't really care if I ate at all. I remember when I tried Atkins pre-surgery a couple of times over the years I had the same phenomena. If it keeps being a struggle to eat, I may go back on carbs and see if it helps my appetite, for a few days at least. I'm liking the wl results with low carb though. My mock pizza is a layer of shredded cheese (1-2 oz) on small section of a baking sheet, then I put pizza ingredients on top including ground beef for the Protein, under the broiler for 2-5, cool for a minute, then serve. Muffin tins would work equally well.

    Feel like such a failure...

First and foremost, I strongly believe in the idea that we are what we think we are, so the negative self talk has GOT to go. You are a successful WLS patient who has fallen off the wagon a bit. A failure is someone who quits, refusing to try again. You regained only 20 pounds and you are back. You could have waited until you had regained 40, 60, 100, or 100+ or you could have thrown in the towel all together. YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE. Go back to your surgeon and see what he/she recommends. Go back to your pre-op diet for a week or two. Go back to liquids for a week or two. Start weighing/measuring/tracking your food and move your ass a little more than normal. You can totally do this. You are not a failure until you stop trying. You don't sound like a failure to me at all. @@LipstickLady I unliked this so I could like it twice!

    Being politically correct sucks!

@@newjerseygirl60 I agree there is no perfect system.

    Being politically correct sucks!

I'm really surprised by your perspective. I'm a 49 year old Canadian that has lived from coast to coast (literally). I had a sister born with kidney issues and had one removed at 5 days old and the other a little later. We spent her 33-year life in the health care system and considered ourselves fortunate to have what we do in Canada. Wonderful care. Knowing as many people as one does by the time they're my age, I've seen and heard it all and it does not mirror what you state. Yes sometimes there are longer wait times for tests if a case is not urgent but it's not a common issue. The media will tend to focus on the extreme exceptions and people will tend to use examples that help their perspective, so I guess you'd have to live here to judge it

    Being politically correct sucks!

As a Canadian I can't fathom this, and I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with crazy rates like this. There's a lot of misinformation out there about how things run here, but I'll take our system any day. I did self-pay my surgery but only because I didn't want the 2-3 year wait being only a 40BMI.

    Lemon water

I drank lemon juice in my Water for many years but stopped after surgery as it didn't taste good to me anymore. Maybe i'll try again now that it's been a few weeks.

    Scheduling surgery question

This really depends on the surgeon and their schedule at a point in time. I did self pay and could have gotten in in less than a month, though I needed to make it a bit later due to scheduling conflict.
