RICHMOND, CA KAISER ANYONE?
CNOEL3 replied to CNOEL3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also, I have not yet been to a support group in VV yet. They are the 1st, and 3rd Monday.of every month, except July 4th one is cancelled. I was told today that I need to attend at least 1 support group before surgery, so I will be going to the 3rd Monday in July for my first one. The Case manager told me "Since you live in VV, there should be no excuses!" Because I told her I missed last month's because I took my grandma to the ER. Oh, also, I am bummed because she told me I have to get on Birth Control! Ugh. Ive been off of BC for over a year, and its done wonders for my monthly cycle, as well as assisted in weight loss. My husband and I have been using condoms, but she said I will need to get either the implanon which I hated, or the IUD, which I won't ever get, or the shots. So I am making am appt to start the shots simce thats the lesser of the 3 evils. Lol. She said no BC pills!! Which sucks. But oh well, I'm still happy! RICHMOND, CA KAISER ANYONE?
CNOEL3 replied to CNOEL3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The Case manager appt was intense. She is VERY serious. I could tell that she truly wants us to succeed. She requires you to have yur questionnaire filled out, and the consent form signed. I also brought my food journal. She asked which of the goals in our binder I have met, as well as which ones I am still working on. I hd.to explain to her thay I've stopped drinking, even after I had the 1 sangria the weekend after orientation, I was truthful and have not had a drop since. It was very straightforward and to the point. She explained the Vitamins and told me where to get them and to start taking them now. It was intimidating, but I'm so ready for this that I was well prepared for the surprise appt. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -

Surgery date is 8/8/16!!!! My psych approved me right away, and there was an appt with the case manager right away, so I was able to see her before I left. She approved me and gave me the date. I am on the cancellation list so it could be sooner than that. I am waiting right now to get my EKG done while I'm here, so things are moving quickly!!! I have my classes scheduled for 7/5/16, and my physical for 7/7/16. So after that, It's just a waiting game!!!! I was lucky that the case manager happened to have an appt today after her meeting. Otherwise I would have to drive back here from VV another day. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Does anyone own a Fitbit?
CNOEL3 replied to haveyoumetalexx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got my FitBit Alta a few days ago, and I have noticed that it does inflate steps sometimes at a 1:3 ratio. Its a bummer since I love it so much, but I just make sure to remember that my steps arent always exactly what it says they are. I do love the sleep monitoring, distance, and calories burned features though! So its worth it for me. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -

So the Psych called today and rescheduled my appt from July 19 to tomorrow! I am so relieved not to have to stress out for another 3 weeks! I should be meeting with the case manager soon after tomorrow to get a surgery date!!!! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
NSAID's after Gastric Sleeve?
CNOEL3 replied to AchieveGoals's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I specifically chose VSG surgery instead of bypass because of the ability to take NSAIDS after surgery, I have a previous back injury that requires me to take motrin from time to time. My surgeon here at Richmond, Ca Kaiser helped me to make that choice, and I believe it is the right one for me, so I can manage my back pain. With the bypass, you are forever supposed to avoid them, with VSG, it is more tolerable. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Your dedication and determination is amazing!!!!! You knew what was right for you, and you made it happen. I applaud you for that. You look great, congrats!!!!! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

Absolutely! Its an awesome way to make sure your informed and can succeed after surgery. There are offered classes here that are optional too, but not required. It's just interesting to me how the same hospital network can function differently in NorCal and SoCal. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

Oh wow! NorCal Kaiser doesn't require a 24 week Options Class. We just had a 4hr orientation/nutritional class. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

My psych up here is awesome, he was kinda tough, but very well informed. He mostly asked the basic questions about family history and such, he was worried because when I was 16, I dropped down to an unhealthy weight from excessive exercise, and almost non-existant calorie intake which he told me was anorexia. He said that it may be a factor after I have the surgery, so I would need to be monitored, but if you have your stuff under control, I'm sure you will be just fine. They really just want to make sure you can handle the lifestyle change after surgery. I also had to make sure to keep a food journal and strictly follow the pre-op meal plan. He asked to see my food journal entries. So keep that in mind. They want to make sure you are making the change now, before surgery, to prepare you for life after surgery. RICHMOND, CA KAISER ANYONE?
CNOEL3 replied to CNOEL3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks @@"aqua24" I am hoping for a cancellation, I just didn't want to have to take any time off work. And @@"byako" I'm happy to hear that we have another person with Richmond Kaiser! Dr Z. Is great, hes very intense, but he has a wonderful way of explaining the surgery and lifestyle changes that we need to go through. He definitely made me more serious about my pre-op eating habits. My biggest suggestion is to start writing your food down (following the meal plan strictly) in a paper notebook. Dr. Z got a bit stern with me when I told him I was using myfitnesspal app which logged calories too. So I have to go back for a follow up appt soon, he told me to go home, follow the meal plan exactly, and write down my meals in a notebook. This has worked great for me so far, and Ive dropped 10lbs since my last appt with his 2 weeks ago. I did email him photos of my food journal so he could see my progress and he said that he couldn't be more pleased with me! I met with my surgeon before my psych appt, but Im sure you will meet your surgeon quickly after your psych appt. Here is a page from my journal, of basically what I wat, and in the order I eat everyday. I always make sure to measure my food, and eat Protein first, thats what he really stressed to me. (Plus, I had told him I had aome Sangria, and he was very disappointed.) So, hopefully you haven't been drinking either. Lol. Good Luck! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
RICHMOND, CA KAISER ANYONE?
CNOEL3 replied to CNOEL3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sooo frustrated! So I called to make my "follow up" appt with the psych, and had to leave a message since no one answered. I never got a call back, just an email with an appt date for JULY 19TH! I have no idea why it's going to take so long to get a follow up appt, so I emailed the psych to see if I can get in sooner. I really need this process to be as quick as possible so I can heal before I go back to work in September. I will keep you posted on what he says when he emails me back tomorrow hopefully. I just want to meet with the case manager to get a surgery date! Ok, sorry for the seemingly spoiled little brat rant I just gave, but I am just annoyed at the delay for something so simple as a follow up appt. How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?
CNOEL3 replied to psvzum's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, sooo I know you guys are busy arguing and whatnot, but I would just like to answer the original question, and say that I weigh myself everyday. I am pre-op, and would like to lose as much weight as possible before surgery to make my operation safer. I will probably continue to weigh daily after surgery as well, though I can see how sometimes I get a bit obsessive. At that time I'm sure I'll weigh less frequently to save my sanity. Lol. But I do agree that everyone has the RIGHT and CHOICE to weigh whenever is best for them, since we are all ADULTS and can make decisions for ourselves. But I also appreciate any links that are posted to inform people of other options, as long as they are respectfully posted for informative purposes only. Thats just my 2cents though. Have a great day guys, and remember, we are here to SUPPORT Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Hair loss and feeling sick and recovery time
CNOEL3 replied to ehedary's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also petrified to lose my hair. I have long thin hair, so if any falls out, Ill surely look awful. I know that taking my Vitamins will help, and making sure to hit my Protein every meal, but that's honestly the only fear I have about getting the surgery. I can handle anything else, but my hair??!?? That will surely be hard. Well, at leasy I have about 2 months before surgery to stress over it and hopefully feel more comfortable with it. Does anyone own a Fitbit?
CNOEL3 replied to haveyoumetalexx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just ordered the fitbit Alta. My cousin has the same one and she loves it for our daily walks we do. It does sleep monitoring, steps, and calories. I can't wait for it to get here, I did call up the company though to ask if they had a waterproof fitbit, since I will be doing a lot of swimming, and they said no, they are only Water resistant, which is a bummer to me, so that's why I just went with the Alta. Im jealous that VALENTINA has a waterproof one. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
I started by doing the 21 day fix program before I looked into VSG. I had a BMI of 42, the videos helped me more than the actual portion control containers did (I prefer to weigh my food instead). Anyways, theres a modified version of the workouts in the videos which I followed, and it was really hard, but actually fun! And since the videos are only like 20-30 mins, they were easy to fit into my daily schedule. I am not a 21 day fix coach or anything, nor do I still do the workout videos, or the containers, but I do recommend using them to start off with! You can get the videos online, instead of from a 21 day fix person and it's probably cheaper. I am going to have surgery in about 2 months, and now that Ive lost about 8 lbs from the 21 day fix, and my BMI is down to 40, it's made it easier to go walking with a friend, or even to get on my treadmill. Plus I am following my surgeon's meal plan, so thats helped me feel awesome and now I have so much energy. I'm now down 30 lbs since January and it all started with a workout video. Anyways, if you're more comfortable working out at home (like I was), I say a few videos are the way to start! Some low impact workouts that can ease you into exercise. Best of luck! I know how hard it is to start working out especially when your already exhausted! Like my daddy always told me (though I didn't always listen) "A body in motion, tends to stay in motion, and a body at rest, tends to stay at rest!" P.s. I'm not sure who the original person is who created that quote was, obviously it wasn't my father. Lol. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

Healthy Weight Healthy Pregnancy
CNOEL3 replied to Dr. Gail Altschuler MD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
This is one of the main reasons for me getting the VSG surgery. My first pregnancy wasn't easy, and my doc said it was most likely because I was obese. My husband and I would like to have one more child, but I don't want to put an innocent child through another stressful beginning, so I am hoping to get pregnant about 2 years after surgery. I almost started at the Richmond Kaiser but I went with the Fremont location instead (its closer to my house). The Richmond program is excellent and you will do very well over there. Sent from my SM-G928T using the BariatricPal App Thanks for the words of encouragement! Richmond is about an hr from where I live, but I heard nothing but great things about their program, so I went with them. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
RICHMOND, CA KAISER ANYONE?
CNOEL3 replied to CNOEL3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats awesome. I was a bit uneducated on the meal plan, and I was logging my food into myfitness pal, the psych told me not to cou t calories. But after my next appt, he said I should be good to schedule with the case manager, so we should have surgery around the same time. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
