    Broth before surgery

P.s. OMFG MISO SOUP!!! My grandma is Japanese, and she made me some of the best Miso broth everrrrr! I swear it has magic powers in it because my pain goes away for a few mins when I eat it. She strains the tofu, onions, seaweed, and chives out of it before she gives It to me since I'm still on liquids only. In a week and a half I can have the tofu though and I can't wait!!! 2. My cousin is still a bit shocked when I tell her how much I weighed at my highest and even on the day of surgery. She always says "No way, you must by lying, I never saw you as being THAT big!". She is just trying to make me feel better, and I'm not mad at her, I guess some people just don't see the people they love as big as we really are/were. Shes very supportive of my VSG and she even drove me to the hospital last week for my surgery. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  3. I was sleeved last Wednesday 7/13/16. All of my incisions are doing well, except the largest one. The actual cut looks fine, but all around it is still SO painful. Like a tennis ball sized area surrounding it. It hurts to stand up straight, to sit or lay down, when I walk too much, and ESPECIALLY when I cough or hiccup (even with a stomach binder and pillow pressed on it). My surgeon's office is closed on weekends, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to ask about it, but I was just curious if anyone still had this much pain around the big incision 4 days out? 4. Thanks, ya, there isn't any discharge or redness. No pain on the actual incision, just almost bruise like pain around it. I'll wait until tomorrow morning to call the hospital, since it's not making me bedridden or anything. Just super bothersome. Thanks for all the responses! 5. I'm 6 days post op now and I'm experiencing the same thing with my largest incision and the one I had my drainage tube in, not sure it's normal or not I just assumed those were where the most trauma took place Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App See, I never had any drainage tubes... is that normal? I mean like I said, the actual incisions all look really good, there's just the severe pain around the largest one. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

    Broth before surgery

My husband absolutely loves the broth from Ramen. I haven't been able to tolerate the sodium in it for years. Its sooo yummy, and I can eat it, but I always feel sick after, which is a bummer. My son and husband can suck it down with no problems! So I guess I'm too scared to try it post-op. I just made bone broth from leftover rotisserie chicken and veggie bits 'nd pieces. So that will have to do for now! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

    My surgery was July 13.

glad to hear you are doing well. Today I had 8oz Protein shake, two sugar free Popsicles, 1/4 cup broth and lots of Water. Are you able to eat that much? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Um, not really. I have about 2-3oz of broth, Soup, or applesauce, at meal times, and then sipping water all day. I go through a 16oz bottle of water all day. But I can't have more than 3oz of anything at a time or I feel sick. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

    My surgery was July 13.

My gas stayed in my chest and was horrible. I was also sleeved on the 13th. And my tummy rumblings so far have been gas for me, not hunger. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

    Wed. July 13th?

Sleeved 7/13/16 Blechhhhhhhhh. I feel sore still, I thought I would have an easier time in the hospital, but I didn't, the anesthesia gas was ridiculous!!! All I could was burp and walk. I was finally able to pass gas early this morning, so that helped me relieve some of the pressure. I absolutely hate taking my Vitamins with a passion. They are so chalky and sweet and gross. My largest incision is very tender, so I can only sleep on my back. Plus I am super itchy under my breasts and tummy. Like there's a rash there, and I'm assuming it's from the tape they must have used to keep things out of the way during surgery. I am on modified liquids now, and I have made chicken bone broth and mixed it with a bit of organic smooth broccoli Soup and it was super good and filling!! Hopefully it will help me "go" too. I am still needing my pain meds every 4-6 hrs, especially before bed. Sorry this post was all over the place. Lol. But thats kinda how I feel right now. 10. I was originally scheduled for VSG Aug 8th, but just got bumped up to Wed. July 13th, so day after tomorrow. Anyone out there with the same date?? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  11. Lucky you, I was sleeved the 13th as well and I am still in a lot of pain, as well as being superrrrr itchy under my breasts and tummy. Not around my incisions though. The largest incision is quite painful, especially when I cough or sneeze. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  12. Omg I totally have this same problem!!! And if I walked for too long of a distance, my feet would sometimes go numb from all the weight on the outer sides. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  13. I am set for VSG surgery in Richmond, CA on 8/8/2016! Is there anyone else here with the same surgery date? I am on a cancellation list, so it could possibly be sooner than that, but for now, its Aug. 8th! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

    New here/gas pains

Oh man, I'm kinda jealous that your still in the hospital! I only got 1 night there, and it's been horrible here at home. The gas blockage is out of control. Just burping here and there and walking like a crazy woman has been all that's helped me. I'm 3 days post op too, and I'm exhausted and wish I could still be getting liquid pain meds through the IV. Because these pills aren't doing anything!!! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  15. Ugh, so my surgery went well, no complications, but since I've been home, I have been in so much pain. The gas pain right Fter surgery was killing me. I had to get up and walk like 5-10 laps every hr to try to burp out the gas from anesthesia. I have a stomach binder on, which I think is helping a lot, but I still can't sleep on my sides and I'm a side sleeper!!! I have to sleep propped up on my back and I still wake up every hr. The coughing from the breathing tube feels like my sleeve is about to burst. I know it wont, but it totally feels that way. I'm having a bit of trouble getting my protonix pill down, as well as my Dilaudid pills. They keep getting stuck in my throat. I was able to sip on Water, and have an ounce of sugar free Jello, but other than that, I can't drink fast enough, I'm always thirsty. Anyways, hope everyone is doing well. 16. I feel ya! I would seriously give my left arm if I could just fart. Haha. I know it will make me feel better. I hope it gets better for you! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  17. I am experiencing all of those things. The gas is the absolute worst right now. Everyone else who had surgery in my ward yesterday seemed to not have any gas problems, since I was almost the only one up walking 5-10 laps every hr to relieve it. I've been home now for about 4hrs and I am super sore and tired. I cant have more than 3 baby sips of my broth, and about the same of my Water. I am miserable, but I don't regret the surgery 1 bit. My grandma always tells me "this too, shall pass" I just wish it would pass sooner!!!! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  18. They only gave me the pain meds and nausea meds. They said I would just have to walk and take deep breathes to expelled it. I honestly wish I had been able to pass gas though, because my burps are tiny and I still have a lot of gas blocked in my chest. I can only take teeny tiny sips of my broth, and water. I haven't even gotten near my 15 1oz cups an hr. Its more like 4oz/hr for me since I still have so much pain. My incisions don't hurt too bad, just the gas and getting used to not taking a big gulp of water when I'm thirsty. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  19. Can you post a link to the stomach brace/stomach binders you are talking about. Thanks. https://www.amazon.com/Medline-4-Panel-Abdominal-Binder-2X-Large/dp/B009GPZD5W I got this one, it gets good reviews, and feels sturdy yet comfortable when I tried It on. I just know that with my luck, I'll have to cough or sneeze like crazy after surgery, and I will need something to help it not hurt so bad. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App Is this something that your doctor/hospital recommended getting or is it just from word of mouth? The Nut recommended it in my class, but mostly from other bariatric patients recommendations Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  20. UGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS SUCKS!!!!!! I had VSG done Wed. July 13th @@Kaiser Richmond and I have had so much pain from the anesthesia gas and I've been walking like crazy. Dilottit every hr, with zofran for nausea. Its worth it for sure, but it sure has been difficult to get this gas out of my chest. Plus it took me forever to go pee for the first time!!!!! Aweful. I feel a bit better today, possibly from all the walking. But its hard to drink since my throat Is sooooo sore from the breathing tube. Sorry to sound like a whining baby, lol, I know it's what I signed up for, just wanted to tell everyone how my experience is. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

    Wed. July 13th?

It absolutely is for me at least, and I'm assuming it is for you as well if you went through any type of pre-op appts or classes. At least we can lean on eachother if needed since we will both be sleeved tomorrow. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
