Yesterday I had to go shopping for pants that didn't fall off! 3 1/2 months ago I was wearing very snug size 22/24. Since , in the past, my weight would fluctuate as a result of yo-to dieting, I had clothes in many sizes. The smallest was size 16. I went to a plus-sized store to buy a smaller pair of pants. Much to my surprise the 14s were too big. I must admit that, despite the fact that I was delighted that I was in a smaller size, I panicked a little. I hadn't shopped for "regular" sized clothing in a long time. I also harbored a suspicion that a size 14 (or any size) in a plus sized store was actually larger than the same size in a regular store. Not sure why I thought that but I did. Much to my surprise and delight, I found that I fit into a size 12!!! Wow! I couldn't believe it! When I looked in the mirror I was able to see ( or maybe recognize) that I actually did look considerably different than I did before surgery. Other people had been telling me so, I just didn't really see it. I've been slowly clearing clothes out of my closet, but still hanging on to some favorite things that are too big. I guess that subconsciously I thought that I might need them again. That little shopping trip has put a new perspective on what I'm hanging on to, so tomorrow I'm going to get rid of those items to make way for my future wardrobe! @@Djmohr Wow! The results are fabulous! You look great. It's scary to entrust someone to surgically alter your body in such a visible manner but I would consider traveling to Wisconsin for surgery after seeing your results. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am 7 weeks out of RNY surgery. Have been sticking to plan, with the exception of a few days where I did not meet the minimum Protein and/or liquid requirements. Yesterday was such a day. For the first time since surgery I was hosting a family BBQ. I was so wrapped up in preparation that I did not take in any protein and not much liquid (>24 oz) until evening. I ate about ½ a hamburger (only burger nothing else) and, against my better judgement, about 4 bites of apple pie. Still no liquid. I should have known better. This was the second time I have tried hamburger since surgery and had the same result – vomiting within 30 minutes of eating. Fortunately this could be done discretely and my guests were unaware. I’m sure that the sweetness of the pie was a large contributor to the event. The protein thing has been tough lately. Can’t eat much and most Protein drinks and bars are just TOO sweet. I always preferred savory to sweet pre-op and that hasn’t changed post-op. I woke up this morning committed to drink enough and get the protein in, regardless of the sweetness! I was pleasantly surprised to receive a shipment (earlier than expected) of some new choices of Protein Bars and ingredients for some high protein recipes. Oh Happy Day!!! Approaching this brand new day with a very positive attitude!

@@AmusedMuse, Glad to hear you reached out to your surgeon. Sounds like he is supportive. I understand the craving for Water you expressed in a post to Djmohr. I have similar cravings. Pre-surgery I could down a 16oz bottle of water in no time. Now I have to remind myself not to drink too much at one time, or suffer the consequences! Dehydration can cause serious health issues so i work hard at drinking enough. I can also relate to the exhaustion. I am 7 weeks out and I'm just now starting to regain some energy. Unfortunately, I am my own worst enemy on the energy front. I just spent hours washing floors and it wiped me out. While the weight loss may be slow I have definitely noticed significant changes in my body (good changes). You're right, we WLL get there. The words "slow and steady wins the race" have become my mantra! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

@eudys3 I love Dr. Weiner! Pound of Cure is a total change in mind set. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and decided I needed to do something to change my attitude toward food. My Primary Care Physician referred me to Dr. Weiner and I began following the Pound of Cure guidelines. In three months my A1C dropped 2 full points, which was shocking because I was eating things that diabetics are normally told not to eat (lots and lots of fruit among other things!) The plan does take forethought and a lot of preparation, however, it seems like any healthy eating plan requires that effort. You'll have to let me know how you like the Pound of Cure method. One very important aspect of the plan is to read labels. Here is an example. While eating hummus seems like a healthy choice, Sabra has additional oil and preservatives in their hummus that make it less desirable. The idea is to eat as clean/Paleo as possible. Oasis Ingredients: Chickpeas, Water, Sesame Tahini, Lemon juice, Fresh Garlic, Sea Salt. Sabra Ingredients: Chickpeas, Tahini (Ground Sesame), NonGMO Soybean Oil, Water, Garlic, Salt, Non GMO Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate Added to Maintain Freshness. BTW - its going to take some time to fully follow the POC plan post-op. I had no problem pre-op but I just can't eat that many veggies yet and right now Protein has a higher priority! Best of luck! -

@@AmusedMuse I have had similar feelings since surgery, especially when read posts where people share that they are losing 30+ pounds a month. I am 7 weeks post-op an am losing about 3 pounds a week - no loss for weeks 6 to 7. I met with my surgeon last week and shared that while I was sticking strictly to the plan, I wasn't losing as rapidly as I thought I would. He explained that people starting at lower BMI would lose at a slower rate and that he thought I was doing great. I am glad that I had that discussion with him as it made losing no weight this past week much easier to handle! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

@@taramarie523 I finally purchased some of these wraps. Had one (turmeric flavor) with tuna fish for lunch today. I really liked the taste and texture. Held together better than many other wraps I've tried in the past. Haven't tried the plain coconut yet. They can be a challenge to find. The bakery's website specifies where they are sold, but several of the locations they provided were no longer in business. I tried Whole Foods. They only had the coconut wraps ($9.99 per package - 7 ct). Since I also wanted to try the turmeric wraps, I stopped at a local health food store. Found them but they were $12.69 for 7ct. Says a lot for bulk buying of larger markets. If you order from the bakery's website they are far cheaper; $8.99 for 7ct, or less if you order in bulk. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Another thought... I also bought a SmartShake shaker. It does a great job of mixing the powders and I don't have to break out the blender! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Getting VSG in August at the age of 54

I'm 61, a breast cancer survivor (14 yrs), had a hysterectomy at age 29, an intestinal tumor removed 10 yrs ago, and had RNY a month ago. I thought long and hard about undergoing yet another surgery but I am glad that I did. After surgery I was able to stop taking diabetes medication and should be off hypertension meds soon. I have seen the toll that diabetes takes on ones body and really felt that I needed to do something to improve my chances at a healthier life. Glad I did! I'm intrigued by the puréed foods. My Dr did not require foods to be puréed. Went from liquid to soft foods. So many different approaches! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Have you tried unjury chicken flavored Protein powder? It makes a broth-like concoction when mixed with Water. I mix 1 scoop of chicken flavor and 1/2 scoop of unflavored with 1 1/2 cups of very warm tap water. There are 30 grams of protein in that amount of powder. I mix the chicken with unflavored because it's a little strong without the mix. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Congratulations lindseyp1019! I'm 4 weeks out as well and don't seem to have the energy you have YET. I know it will come eventually and seeing posts like yours is very encouraging!

I'm also 4 weeks post-op and have started to eat seafood. I had a little trouble with scallops but they were so good that I will absolutely give them another try! Sorry that you don't care for fish in general. There are some mild white fish varieties that are very mild and aren't smelly. Tonight I prepared tilapia with sides of pico de gallo and guacamole. Couldn't eat much but it was great! BTW - I no longer live in the NE and really miss Wegmans! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I also had an incision below my left breast and did not put on a bra until I left the hospital. Strangely, sometimes after I eat I feel a lot of pressure from the band around the bottom a bra (even though the bra is not tight). It's great incentive not to over eat!
