Insurance change and 6 month post-op NOT covered!
suzzzzz replied to JohnGraySmiley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All my post op appts are included for a year which means insurance isn't even filed for them nor do I have to make a co pay. If that is not the case for you, seems like you should be covered under pre-existing conditions. Ask UHC about that. Outside of that, your pcp can do blood work for you that should be covered as part of annual checkup. -
I totally get what you are saying as I have done the one bite too many a couple of times and it feels very uncomfortable. It is a learning process and I have learned if I think "should I have one more?" Or worse, "this tastes so good I want one more bite", then I don't take another bite. I stop and put the food away. If needed, I can always have a light snack of something in a couple of hours.

Relieving the pain
suzzzzz replied to justabitunique's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said there is no way you will pull stitches or hurt that muscle. Stand up straight to walk. If your stomach feels like it is pulling, hold it or use a binder. I used ice on that part for the first few days and then the pain was tolerable but lasted a couple of weeks. -
one month after the surgery, and I feel hungry too fast and I'm eating more than my friends doing the same surgery!
suzzzzz replied to Aya Kamal Elbhwashy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bread will not help with hunger. I am almost 6 mths out and haven't tried it yet because it won't help me lose weight. At 4 weeks out, you are still healing and your stomach nerves are not functioning properly to help you feel fullness. Are you on solid foods? Dense protein? If so, eat dense protein first. Feeling normal is the goal. Everyone tolerates different foods differently. -
Congratulations. I think you have set a record!

What's Wonderland mean
suzzzzz replied to Asmundson69's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Onderland means you weigh under 200 lbs. As for water, you just have to make yourself. I use water flavoring drops, crystal light, and plain old water. Dehydration is never good for your body. All of your organs, skin, muscles and brain need it. -
As you swelling goes down, you will be able to take more in. It was probably a couple of weeks before I got 60 oz. of protein in. There really isn't anything you can do to guarantee you won't have some hair loss, so just do your best!

Body Dysmorphia and Fear of Failing
suzzzzz replied to BeYouTiful617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Living in fear of anything will keep you from enjoying this journey and life. You are not on a diet anymore. You are creating a new way of life that includes new eating, drinking, and the physical and mental changes that happen also. Follow your plan and don't hesitate to reach out to your team if you have questions about what and how much you can eat. I do think most of us have a hard time seeing our own changes. That goes for weightloss and weight gain. It takes time so don't be so hard on yourself! -

suzzzzz replied to Aya Kamal Elbhwashy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone heals at different paces and have different feels of restriction. It doesn't matter if you are eating more than your friends, it only matters if you are eating more than your surgeons plan. Talk with him or her about it as they can best provide feedback for your expectations. -
I have had a jawbone fitness band for a year now and I like it. Wear it everyday. Tracks sleep, heartrate, calories burned, steps taken, and much more. Seems to be pretty accurate.

Sleeve and hiatal hernia repair
suzzzzz replied to carolynh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had both and didn't have anything other than light pressure for a day from the hiatal hernia repair. If surgeon hadn't told me I may notice it, don't think I would have. -
It will be over tomorrow. No more prepping. Just follow your surgeons post surgery food, water, and protein. That is your new job.
-
My surgery was at 8:00 and I was in my room by 1pm watching tv. Don't know how long surgery was or how long recovery room was. Had a large hiatal hernia repair along with my sleeve. I am single and the friend that took me stayed until I got to my room and then I sent her home. All I did was sleep, watch tv, and walk. Mostly slept and didn't need anyone there.

Big day tomorrow- sleeve day, what do i need to know about week 1 &2 post op?
suzzzzz replied to xoxococojay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your surgeon should have provided you an eating plan. I began on Clear liquids and moved to full liquids on day 4. Puree began week 3, soft foods week 4 a d solids week 5. All doctors are different so please contact yours today. The doctor will also provide pain and nausea scripts when you leave hospital. Expect to feel tired. Everyone has a different experience. I had a great recovery. Hope you will as well. Went off pain meds on day 3 and was able to tolerate the muscle pain in abdomen. And, I have never used baby spoons or corks. Some do. I make sure my bites are no larger than a nickel. -
Serious life question about hiccups.
suzzzzz replied to cassandramarie93's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Slow, mindful eating helps. -
Glad you are feeling great. Itching to get to the gym? Send some of that to me! Ha ha. Your body needs to heal before you tax it. You will get there!
-
Sorry you had a rough time. It will get better and in time you will so thrilled with how good you feel. I am almost 6 mths out and feel great. I am a little over halfway to my goal. Make sure you get lots of fluids in and the Protein will help you feel better. Takes work, but is so worth it.

First time poster, finding the pre op diet...easy plus other qs.
suzzzzz replied to wghennessy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that the alcohol won't help your liver. Also the sugar and carbs are not likely on your preop diet. You will get to have alcohol again when your surgeon releases you for it. -
Busted, but not how I thought!

Once again, you are special! As for the holster, how do you know she doesn't have one of her own? Just saying. . . . -
I had a few "last meals" myself so I get what you are saying. However, it isn't necessary because now that I am sleeved, I can eat whatever i want, but I don't want to eat what I used to eat anymore. It is amazing to me that a bite of this or that satisfies me. Eating Protein first is key. This is a mental challenge as well as physical. When you want to eat that ice cream again, have a glass of Water first and then see if you still want it. The more you eat now just adds to the anoint you have to lose. Is it really worth it? Only you can decide.

I was warned of stomach spasms so it may just be that. Doctor said they are normal and will go away. Call your doctor if you question anything with your new sleeve.

I can't stand the clay texture of protein bars. Any good ones?
suzzzzz replied to show1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, but the site makes a ton of money off their push for product, take it with a grain of salt I was suggesting to search the site for other topics on Protein Bars. There are many of them. -
I make seasoned ground beef and keep it handy for protein that can be mixed with lots of things. Also, grilled chicken, tuna salad, chicken salad, eggs, and turkey are protein sources I alternate eating. I have a protein shake or protein bar everyday because I cannot eat enough otherwise. Am almost 6 mths out. Oh, and cheese. Cheese goes with everything and there are so many choices!

My favorite is the Atkins peanut butter chocolate pretzel bar. Also like the quest chocolate chip cookie dough one. If you search on this site for protein bars, you will find lots of info. -
Maybe it will help to visualize your new stomach all swollen, red, and a long row of stitches down the side. Imagine how tender it is and how much love and tender care it needs right now. Only you can take care of it. Your head is trying to be in charge. Don't let it.
