    Liquid flow question

It is normal. Just means the swelling is going down. This is why post op eating plans progress from thin liquids to thicker liquids, purees, soft foods, then solids. My surgeon said it takes about 6 weeks for swelling to be gone.

    Crackers

I can have crackers starting week 4. Whole wheat, multigrain, crispy breadsticks, Melba toast and wassa crackers. Wassa were highly recommended and they have a huge variety and recipes on website.

When to eat what not to eat

I have lost 16 since surgery 3 weeks ago and 7 on preop. I am ok with that because I know that ultimately, I have a lot to lose and it will take time. I would like the weight to disappear but in all my years of yo-yo dieting, it never has. My body is going to do its own thing. I would have a problem without meat too. Going to have some ground beef tomorrow. Only beef I can have now, but thin turkey and ham are allowed.

When to eat what not to eat

Don't know what to tell you. My plan is to focus on protien first. I was sleeved 2 days after you. It is hard to tell when you are full unless you get too full. I am eating very slowly and after 4-5 bites I stop for a couple of minutes and then have another one to see what I feel. I was told to stop when I feel satisfied and not full. I sometimes get a burp and I stop then.
  5. Had my first scrambled egg today. I added a little cheese, salt and pepper and it was delish. No issues as I ate it very slowly. I like getting to this stage with a lot of new things to try. Ground beef is on the menu soon.
  6. 3 months isn't a long time for a new way of life. Surgery isn't magic no matter which one you have. You can find many posts about not losing with the sleeve. Success is a journey. Maybe you need a fill, a change in routine, adding a few carbs and fat, increase in exercise, etc. Talk to your doctor. I am sure he can coach you best.
  7. I am sorry you are feeling nauseated when you eat. I am 3 weeks out and just began soft foods. My surgeon said to make each bite no larger than a dime, chew well then swallow. Wait a little before having another one. He said that nausea is usually caused by eating too fast or too large a bite. An entire meal should take 20 to 30 minutes right now. I just finished my first scrambled egg and it took me 25 minutes to eat it. No problems. Try that and see how you do. I wanted to eat faster but am testing everything in this phase. You will be able to go out to restaurants. Check the menu out before you go so you can plan ahead. I have already done so and have several meals coming up this weekend out with friends.

    19lbs 1month out

Losing 40 lbs in a month is the exception, not the norm. I think we would all like that ,but it will make your life much easier if you have realistic expectations. Your body is going to heal and lose weight the way that works best for it. As long as you are supporting it, the weight will come off over time. Besides, losing a lot of weight very quickly can send your gall bladder into overdrive. The painful attacks and potential surgery for that isn't a good tradeoff. Your weightloss so far is great.
  9. Met with my surgeon today and after I told him I was addicted to popsicles, he told me to pour the premiere protien shake in ice trays for a frozen treat. Wish I had known that during the first 2 weeks post op! I don't see why any protien shake wouldn't work.
  10. Day 19. Had my 1st follow up today and doc was pleased with my progress. He showed me pictures of my hiatal hernia that he fixed. It was much larger than he expected once he removed some fat that was covering it. No wonder I would choke at times or feel like I was drowning. So glad that is gone! Gave me diet for week 4 mushy and week 5 solids. Said to go slowly, keep priority on protien and liquids. Also, I am going to do my best to not drive myself crazy with weight loss and stalls. I will weigh but my main focus is going to be on how I feel, enjoying clothing getting too big, and learning how to live my new sleeved life.
  11. Yes. In the early days it is important to do whatever you have to to get liquids and protien in.

    Popsicles

The ones I buy come in a box with orange, cherry and grape. I think orange is my favorite right now. Hang in there. We will all make our way to solid food again. It is sort of fun when I get to add a new item as my plan moves forward.

    Popsicles

Ha ha. I on the other hand am obsessed with popsicles! Being 2.5 weeks out I guess they give me something to bite and chew. Right now I have no thoughts of ever giving them up.
  14. Mine began near end of week 2. Wont be same for all. I think it is great we are taking this stall in stride and not panicking. Ha ha. I just know that anytime I have lost weight, there are always stalls. And I have a lot of practice at losing weight! :-)
  15. Mine was on the 23rd too. Am right there with you on the stall. 5 days, however, dropped 1/2 pound since yesterday so maybe it is over! Have followup with surgeon on Tues. Should have been last week but he was on vacation. Am interested in what he has to say.

Made it to the losers ' bench.

I was told to focus on getting liquids in first then protien the first week. You do not want to get dehydrated. Sip, sip, sip all day long.
  17. I am 16 days out. Protien shakes are considered a meal, especially in the healing phase. My plan the first week was to make sure I sip liquids all day long to stay hydrated so the 30 minute rule doesn't apply. You can always add an unflavored protien to your liquids or soup to help.
  18. Oh, so sorry to hear that Maggie. Hope you figure out what is going on and feel better soon!
  19. It is my understanding that fruit requires to stomach to work harder at digestion which wouldn't be good for healing. Soft, canned fruits are on my list for week 4. Also, watermelon is pretty fibrous and stringy so I would keep that for much later.
  20. I am 2 weeks out and my post op plan was just like yours. I have not had any trouble following it because I don't want to chance a leak for any reason. Our stomachs need time to heal and not have to churn to digest fuller or solid foods. If you noticed, pre op diets vary a lot also. In a really odd way, it is fun to move to the next stage. I start puree today and can't wait to explore. If it is anything like the creamy soups I have had, 5-6 spoonfulls will be all I can handle.
  21. Maggie143, what card are you referring to?

    What to expect post op?

I had a good experience overall. Pain was managed thru IV while one night in hospital and I walked a lot multiple times that night. Never had any nausea or gas pain. Slept sitting up partway once home. Had pain in belly getting in and out of bed and standing up that was gone in 5 days. No pain meds after 2 days. No issues getting liquids down. Everyone will have their own experience. Hope yours goes well.
  23. Shelly's Baked Ricotta 8 oz of Ricotta cheese 1/2 cup grated Parmesan 1 large Egg, beaten 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning salt & pepper to taste 1/2 cup Marinara Sauce 1/2 cup shredded Mozzarella Cheese Mix ricotta cheese, parmesan, beaten egg, seasonings together and place in a oven proof dish. Pour marinara on top and top with mozzarella cheese. Bake it in the oven @ 450 for about 20-25 minutes (best) or nuke it till hot and bubbly. heat the leftovers in the microwave
  24. Nice! The pureed stage is the one I'm most nervous about and I'm not sure why. Texture is really a big deal for me, for that reason I avoided Jell-o. Jell-o has made me gag before so I'm hoping I can get through the puree phase without gagging too much. I am thinking puree will be interesting. My surgeon also included thinned out mashed potatoes. Yummy. This weekend I plan to make that ricotta bake which everyone says is delish. When I eat jello, I squish it into small bits in my mouth so it doesn't just slide down as I think that may make me gag too.
  25. So, I will be 2 weeks out tomorrow. Last night I met 3 of my very long time friends for dinner at our favorite Mexican food place. I missed having my margarita and usual cheesy enchilada but mentally prepared myself beforehand. Being on full liquids, my only real choice was tortilla soup. They blended it for me and it was delicious! Was full after 6 or 7 spoonfulls. Kept telling myself that next time I could have some refried beans and quest and eventually a few bites of enchiladas. Not totally easy but certainly not worth ruining my evening over lack of food. On to purees tomorrow!
