  1. I'll take the sunshine every stage as negativity and/or scare tactics just don't work for me. Sorry you didn't get the accolades you deserve. My surgeon and his staff are very upbeat, helpful and hands on. The surgeon sees his patients for all appointments and will call his patients directly if they want. It is a small office and they make your experience personal. The staff has been very good at sharing their personal journeys with wls which has been helpful. Next time let her know that you are very proud of your accomplishments!
  2. For soft foods, week 5, I got to add thinly sliced deli turkey and ham, ground beef, soft cooked veggies, eggs any style, baked potato, soft cheese, and anything that was easy to chew or was mushy. It was my favorite stage and even though I am on solids now, I eat pretty much the same just less carbs. I ate the inside of a chicken sour cream enchilada with sauce, meatballs, meatloaf, topping off nachos, insides of tacos....lots to experiment with. At 6 weeks out I can't eat more than 1/3 cup for meals.
  3. Checking in I feel like I am living a normal life at almost 6 weeks out! Been on a couple of overnight trips, hosted company for a long weekend, lived thru a 2 week kitchen remodel, eaten out at restaurants and friends homes many times, served on jury duty, helped a friend in need, and more. I have dropped a size almost 2. Feeling good. Have a good handle on eating routine. Have a Protein shake for breakfast and mid afternoon . Real food for lunch and dinner. Can only eat about 1/3 cup. Drink liquids most of the day. Haven't had any issues with my sleeve and I am super grateful for that!
  4. He may not even realize it was going to bother you. His world hasn't changed, yours has. Maybe let hI'm know that you will be in another room while he eats until you further along in your program. Communication is key.

    Fitting old clothes!

I too am losing inches and wearing clothes that were too small before. Haven't taken measurements so I will continue to enjoy the clothes to help measure my success. Prefer to scale anyday.

    1 week out

No rice. It can swell plus high carbs.

    Low energy

I hit an energy slump close to 3 weeks out. Just when. Instructions said to begin adding a b12 and b100 complex daily, along with the multivitamin aND calcium I was already taking. I have more energy now at 5 weeks. Your nut should be able to guide you with supplements. Also, are you taking a vitamin d? I've been taking 1000 icu daily and it makes a big difference in how I feel.

    The H Word

I didn't get to soft foods until week 4 and didn't have any issues. Maybe your stomach isn't ready yet.

    No hunger but

Real food is coming. When you get to the soft food stage, lots of food choices open up. Then on to solids. All in small portions of course a d the no hunger helps with that.

    Is this too much food?

I wasn't given portion sizes either. My surgeon emphasized small bites and to take 30 minutes to eat. He also said that once all the swelling was gone, I will probably have a capacity of 2/3 cup. I am 5 weeks out and I eat very slowly. I am not able to eat more than 1/2 cup now and not always that much. I suggest slowing down some and really paying attention to how you feel. It may be that is your capacity or it may be too much with other foods. Have heard fish is easiest to eat a lot of.

    Soft food stage problem

I think you may be eating a bit too much. Even with small amounts, one bite too many makes a huge difference. I got very uncomfortable twice and when I cut back a wee bit, hasn't happened again. It is hard for us to judge when to stop and is all part of our learning process. In reality, we are in a lifetime of learning.
  12. So good to hear from you Maggie. Many of us have been concerned about you. Sorry to hear you have been so sick. Hope you are on the mend. Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way.

    First week & Second week

I did not have an eating schedule. Was told to sip, sip, sip as getting in liquids was first priority in order to prevent dehydration. My plan added protien drinks on day 3 and I just sipped what I could and stopped. Week 2 was pretty much the same, just adding in thicker liquids like cream soups, yogurt, etc.
  14. Suzzzzz, I've started keeping a Quest bar and a small water bottle in my handbag just for those 'can't control' events. I SO often walk out of the house without my big water bottle and the protein bar has saved me more than once. And just as a ps, the day AFTER I gained one pound, I lost 3 Sorry about the disturbing jury duty, it's definitely a look at the underbelly of society at times, isn't it? Yes, an awful glimpse at the underbelly. Good idea to keep a protien bar handy. I do keep water with me, I just couldn't drink it yesterday. And I certainly hope I have your experience after a gain!! Thanks for the support.

    Injection marks

I did not do shots after surgery but I had a huge really ugly bruise from the blood thinner shot they gave me in hospital. It took 4 weeks to finally disappear. If you are still bruised like pictures shlw, I would call my doctor. Doesn't seem right so long after the shots.
  16. I had jury duty yesterday and wasn't surprised this morning to find I gained a pound. There was absolutely no way I could eat right or get in my liquids. Spent the day on a jury panel waiting to be called back into court or in court listening to both sides ask questions of us for juror selection. We were given 45 minutes for lunch and the cafeteria smelled of grease when I got near it. Ick. It was 30 minutes before it closed so there wasn't a lot to choose from. I just couldn't do the grilled chicken that was sitting in a vat of liquid so I had a baked potato. I had a couple of sips of water and back to courtroom. Was finally released at end of day when jury selection was final. (It was a disturbing case and is still on my mind.) I know now to plan ahead for lunch and take my own when I can't be in control. Can't really change not drinking liquids. I took a bottle of water with me but wasn't able to consume it. So today, I plan to get back on track with protien and liquids. You wouldn't think one day not following plan would make a difference, but it does. Just wanted to share my experience of how sensitive our bodies are. They want water and protien! Have a great day!

    Not behaving myself...

Our stomachs take a while to heal. Surgeons put us on food plans to phase different food in so we won't cause the stomach to have to work to digest too hard while it is healing. Even if you dont throw up, you can be doing harm to yourself. It really can be serious, even life threatening. Ask yourself if it is worth risking a leak before you consider making a poor choice again. The fact that you are aware and asked for real feedback is a big step in the right direction. You can do this.
  18. I can't think of anything either. My surgeon was very thorough in going over lots of information about the surgery, pain mgmt, nausea, pills, walking, hospital stay, his follow ups, diet plan, haital hernia repair, etc. He had it in writing and I signed off on everything.
  19. It gets even better as you add more foods. I had fun rediscovering food and stretching my mind a little to be creative, especially when eating out.
  20. Not everyone has pounds melting off. You have lost 34 pounds total and that is a lot of weight. Your body doesn't know preop from post op weight loss. It is healing and adjusting. Make sure you are getting your Protein, Water and enough calories in so your body doesn't go into starvation mode.

    Weight loss is sllllloooowwww

Our bodies dont distinguish preop and post op. So 12+20=32. Losing 32 pounds over 5 weeks is a lot. Your body is healing and adjusting. We can help ourselves by adjusting our expectations. Scale watching can drive us crazy.

    Flat Diet Coke

For me, it was the "burn" from the carbonation that I liked. Can't imagine drinking it flat for the taste. To each his own I guess.

    Homemade sugar free popsicles

My surgeon suggested pouring protien shake into ice cube tray or popsicle molds for a frozen treat. Haven't tried yet but sounds good.

    3 days post op

Don't worry about the gurgling. It is normal. Keep sipping so you don't get dehydrated.

    Pills

I swallowed pills day after surgery, even a large one.
