I am 6.5 weeks out and hit a 4 or 5 day stall in week 3. I am losing slowly which is ok with me because I feel good and clothes are getting too big! I hate when I let myself get too hungry so I have begun keeping a protein bar, banana, or boiled egg handy. Just having a half of any of those helps. Then I can eat my next meal slowly.

Did anyone NOT have a miserable recovery?
suzzzzz replied to ella37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No miserable experience here. One night in hospital, off pain meds day 2, no gas pain, no nausea. I followed my plan and all is well at 6.5 weeks out. I live alone and had no problems taking care of myself. I did have help lined up just in case. I feel very blessed. -
Eating restrictions after surgery does it get an easier to swallow and get food down?
suzzzzz replied to sondyissleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, just take it slow. No need to put up with pain when eating. When advancing stages your stomach may not be ready and if so go back and try again in a few days. -
5 or 10 Day Pouch Reset
suzzzzz replied to miss_smiles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can see how following that plan would help getting back on track, but what do you mean by pouch reset? Sleeves don't have a pouch. I must have missed something. -
Sleeved June 13, 2016 - Still can't eat
suzzzzz replied to Cocojh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cocojh, have you tried shaved turkey breast from the deli? It is almost crumbly and with a bite the size of a dime, it isn't like meat. Hopefully you will be able to revisit meat again soon and it will work. Oh, and what about tuna salad or mushy chicken salad? Sorry if I am taking you down a ath you have already been. -
Go with the Canadian salmon fishing trip and let her wonder. It is none of her business what you do with your time off. If she has hired you for 8 years of contract work and you do that from home, she won't fire you because you ask for some time off.

Things that I'll be taking to hospital
suzzzzz replied to D'Sleeved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also wore the same thing home that I wore there. Loose and comfortable. You will need to wear the hospital gown in order to allow for iv and monitoring equipment and they put socks with slip free bottoms on you prior to surgery. The socks were great to walk in because I sure didnt want to bother with getting into shoes. When walking around the floor, they gave me an extra gown I wore backwards so nothing was hanging out. You really dont need much. -
Drink water (liquids) all day and evening to get to at least 64 ozs. As for protein shakes I like premier and EAS advantedge. Unjur has a lot of different options. Have also hear that Atkins lift protien drinks are good but have not tried them myself.

Late June Sleeve Buddies?
suzzzzz replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I need to go to Trader Joes and find the chicken/turkey that's pre-sliced. I should have gone for hummus but I was out of carrots and didn't want to eat crackers. And eggs are interesting for me now...I used to eat a lot of eggs, particularly when I was 'dieting', now I have to be careful as they don't always sit well. Poached in the morning is just about the only way I can eat them. I used to have a cast-iron stomach And isn't it weird to get worried about going over 800 calories?? And to be capable of staying UNDER 800 calories? It blows my mind. I'm stuck again, weight-wise, but clearly I'm losing inches and getting more muscle from exercise. I'll be at home alone this coming week so I should be able to manage my food exactly as I want, but then I travel for about 10 days, which will be a little challenging. I'll have a refrigerator at one hotel, but not at the other 2. I'll pack my protein powder, a bunch of protein bars and my water bottle. Any travel suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! A lot of hotels will provide a small refrigerator if you ask ahead of time. Let them know you have special dietary considerations. Worth a try anyway. Also, you can ship liquids and or other foods to hotels ahead of time instead of taking in suitcase. Just dont pack any canned chicken! Lol -
Try sugar free popsicles to help with the craving to chew.

Late June Sleeve Buddies?
suzzzzz replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My family was eating pizza and there wasn't anything thawed that I could cook. I need to slice some raw chicken breasts and wrap them for the freezer, those thaw in minutes. I was being lazy and learned THAT lesson! I had a sugar-free popsicle after my stomach settled, all is well now Eww. I have never had canned chicken but I have 4 cans of it in the pantry I bought pre surgery. Now I have no desire to use them! Could you have had the topping off a slice of pizza? Then again, chicken sounds like a better option. I love sugar free popsicles. With the heat here, they have become a staple in my freezer. Glad you are feeling better. -
Can I take tylenol pm?
suzzzzz replied to melissalane6.6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ha ha. My doctor instructed me to not crush pills, that I could take them whole. Sure enough I did starting day 1 and had no problems. -
Dairy allergy....how to get protein?
suzzzzz replied to Dk370's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am drinking an AdvantEdge shake by EAS now an I don't see dairy on the label. I may be missing something but over the years I have had many different protien powders that I mixed with water instead of milk. You nutritionist should have examples of what to use. If not, go to a nutrition store and talk to them. And, like already suggested unjur has options. -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
suzzzzz replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said to wait until after 6 weeks. It is important to be able to handle solid food too. Don't drink on an empty stomach and don't be surprised if it hits you quicker than before. Enjoy! -
It gets better each day. Don't be your own doctor. Your stitches are there for as long as your surgeon determined they need to be there. Work on getting in your protien and liquids. They are very important to healing. It takes a lot longer for the swelling to go down and the stomach to heal from the trauma than we can see or feel.
-
Thanks! That makes me feel a little better! I was up to 18lbs and wanted to hit 20lbs before my 2 week appt, but now im set back to 15lbs! It will go away in a day or two once your body realizes it doesn't need it. My body is the queen of water retention. Try drinking more water then you normally do and see if that helps.
-
It is water weight. Your body is still healing and adjusting. Perhaps it is protecting itself a little due to the workout. Keep following your plan.
-
Try sipping slower and smaller sips to help with nausea.
-
It is only during the few days or week that you have to sip sip sip. Once the swelling goes down, you can drink much easier. And gets easier as time goes by.

Pre-op diet sabotage...
suzzzzz replied to theantichick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Now is a great time to practice for when you are sleeved. I have learned to take a bottle of Water and protien bar with me because if I get too hungry I eat too fast and then can't eat much. If that makes sense. As far as eating out Mexican food is very doable. You can eat the insides of enchiladas, burritos or tacos. Get fajitas and don't eat the tortillas or have tortilla Soup or ta combination salad. I eat out a lot and just had to make a commitment to myself to do what I need to do. You can do this. I have never eaten at taco bueno, but I bet you can find something. It may not be ideal but nothing really is unless you make all your own meals. Oh, I forgot to say to go ahead and eat half a protien bar during your 45 minute car ride then maybe you can not give in so easily to the not so good stuff. -
Not drinking water with a meal?
suzzzzz replied to shelbys mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A normal stomach holds food because of the shape. A sleeve is vertical so there isn't much of a place for food to rest. -

Are you losing inches? I am losing at about the same rate as you, but I have lost inches. My clothes are looser and I have three outfits I wasn't able to fit I to before that I can wear. I dont consider it a stall if the scale is moving, even very slowly. -
Not drinking water with a meal?
suzzzzz replied to shelbys mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon says no drinking 15 minutes before and 30 minutes after. However, taking a sip or wetting your mouth while eating is ok. This guideline is just another part of committing to a new way of life. I would rather stay full longer by not washing my meal thru than to end up consuming too many calories because I got hungry sooner. -

Anything with ground beef, meatloaf, meatballs, insides of enchiladas and tacos, chicken and tuna salad, taco salad, eggs with different extra ingredients, turkey and cheese rollups, chili, guacomole, beans, and more. I am adapting well to eating out by ordering an appetizer or modifying an entree and having leftovers. I can only eat about 1/3 c at a time so I usually have a lot to choose from in the fridge to warm up. I am basically eating what I like. -
Anyone losing too much weight in your face? I am!
suzzzzz replied to sleeverv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately we don't get to choose where we lose weight and how much. Wrinkles are a part of life. They were likely already there and they are now exposed with weight loss. Some people are always going to find fault in others to build themselves up. Are they sporting perfect bodies and faces? I dobut it. Now, if you decide for yourself at some point you want ps, go for it. This is your journey. In the meantime try some facial products and routines to see if they make you feel better. Just don't let others opinions of you drive you.
