    Grocery Stores

Sorry you are overwhelmed. I am surprised that even being self pay, your surgeons office wouldn't have a nutritionist or someone you could ask questions of. The office staff have loads of good info where I go. Perhaps you could make some inquiries. I agree that most everything has sugar in it but in all my years of dieting, I never counted sugar, just carbs. My surgeon had us follow the south beach diet for 10 days pre op which is low carb, high protien. I bought the book (super charged version) and it has great info, meal plans and recipes. I refer to it still. Maybe that would help.
  2. @@ShelterDog64 UGH. No I have not had that happen. So sorry. I have read of that happening to others and I was hoping my small bites and slow eating would help me avoid it. Evidently not! If you brave enough to try again, maybe strain the meat out and see how it does. Guess that won't really matter though since you have had it many times. Have a great trip and flight. My worst nightmare before surgery was that I would have to ask for an extender. I never did, but I twisted myself into a pretzel a few times getting it hooked! :-)

    Grocery Stores

I was only given protein and liquid goals which included sugar free jello, pudding, and popsicles. I am not a milk drinker so I can't remember what kind was recommended. Ask your nut for some ideas.
  4. I swallowed whole pills beginning the day after surgery, per my doctor. No issues.

    30/30/30 rule

My plan is no liquid 15 minutes before eating, can have very small sips with meal, no liquids for 30 minutes after meal. It takes a bit of effort but is very doable
  6. I am 7 weeks post op and the for the first month, I never thought about food and loved that. Now I do think about food but mostly what I can have or want that will help me continue on my weight loss journey. So far, I have stuck to my plan and don't feel deprived. I eat out a lot while socializing and have found it easy to find something on the menu I can eat or adapt. Then when I begin to eat and realize, again, I can't eat much, eating just isn't much of a big deal anymore. This is a good journey so far!
  7. @magoosmon that is an awesome things g you are celebrating. So happy for you. I will visualize that kind of recovery and enjoy it when it happens. Eggs are my friend. Mostly I scramble one and throw in some diced onion and some bacon bits. Last week my eyes got bigger than my stomach and I made 2 eggs. Could not eat that much, which is a good thing! Keep up the good work. @@ShelterDog64 sorry you are in much the same boat. I am not berating myself or getting overly frustrated, it is just not too exciting. But, soon we will be celebrating again. I also weigh like you do at night and in am. Weighing at night gives me a good idea of what the scale will say in the morning. Much more like a non scientific experiment. Lol I too need to up the exercise. I belonged to Curves for several years and really liked it. They have closed now any where close to where I live so I am sorting thru my collection of dusty dvds. Will it be walking, yoga, qi gong, belly dancing, line dancing or 15 minute interval workout? Maybe I should just rotate daily! @@Seastars I too still have 2 shakes a day and it helps with what I perceive to be hunger at times. I always make myself drink water or a shake before I go get something to eat. Your reward sounds interesting. Good idea to have along the way.
  8. Stall still in control. Hoping to see a chunk gone soon. I see my surgeon next week and want to be able to demonstrate a good loss! Ok, I want it for my own selfish reasons too.

    3 days post op troubles

Agree. Your stomach is probably not ready for the egg. Stick to liquids and protein for a while. Eggs were not on my plan until 3 weeks out. Stomachs need time to heal without working much to digest food.

    Alcohol.

My doc said 6 weeks and to take it easy because the alcohol may affect you faster then before surgery. He doesnt forbid anything and says you have to have a life. I have followed his plan and it is working well. Had a glass of wine the other night and it took me a very long time to drink it because I didn't want to get drunk. Well, it didn't really have an impact. And it didn't burn. I know what my triggers are and I am avoiding them, but enjoying a glass of wine is something I will do on occasion.
  11. Don't let fear rule. I am 7 weeks post op and have had zero problems with food. I take small bites and eat slowly. Once I was allowed solid foods again , I don't feel like I am on a diet. I am able to just eat smaller portions. Don't rush yourself but dont be afraid because that may make it more difficult to eat.

    Premium protein drinks

There are many options for protien besides protein shakes. And there are many different kinds of protein. Try some others until you find something that works.

    Random Thought/Question

Nope. Have no desire to test my sleeve because I dont want a complication. I trust my doctor and his advice and plan have worked well for me. I am 7 weeks out and haven't had any issues.
  14. That is what I like too @@ShelterDog64 . Nice to be in good company about so many things.
  15. Had a glass of wine tonight. Late birthday celebration. It didn't affect me differently but I did take over an hour to drink it. Lol. I kept taking sips of water in between. And, yes, it was ok on my plan.
  16. You don't have to experience pain and you don't have to finish your plate. EVER. The responses you receive suggested going slower and taking smaller bites/spoonfuls. Try it. Don't panic.

    Upper GI Series - OMG!

I only had to have a chest xray. Had an endoscopy 2 years prior when my hiatal hernia was discovered and my surgeon got a copy of that report. Sounds like you are being well taken care of!

    Upper GI Series - OMG!

I haven't heard of doing that test preop. What are they looking for? Just curious.

    Goin fishin?

So, how many days after surgery are you referring to? Your original post made it sound like day 1. At the least you will be fatigued and need to rest, and you will likely have soreness and or pain when standing up and sitting down. I was off pain meds by day 2 and moving around well by day 4.
  20. Try drinking smaller sips and slower. What are you trying to eat? Even thicker soups may be something your stomach isn't ready for. Stick with thin liquids until it doesn't hurt to consume them.
  21. @@APanda911 and @@ShelterDog64 , it is nice to have friends on this journey. Thanks Maggie for starting this thread. I hear that little voice because mine says the same thing. I used to be really good at losing and even better at gaining. Then as I got heavier and heavier and older, I couldn't lose like I used to and I wanted a tool to help with the rest of my life. I am going to be successful and you are too, along with others who are serious about making a long term change. I just turned 59 and am determined to not be the old fat lady in family pictures. My family has a long history of that. :-) We can do this!
  22. That is what I have been doing too. Same .5 lbs up and down except today it was up one. I am starting to walk more today and will increase Water intake. I am having fun fitting into some clothes I haven't worn in years. I can't wait to hear about your big loss that is coming soon!

800 calories ? IS IT ENOUGH?

No. That would wake me up even more to go to the bathroom. My surgeon says no liquids an hour before bedtime to minimize interruption to sleep. I always get up at least one time though.
  24. Hit another stall..... been 3 days now so I have to admit it. Lol. I am embracing it..... :-)

    Cheese itz?

My surgeon gave me a list of crackers that he allows and cheezits are not on it. They probably have more fat and carbs. Can always ask your nut.
