Late June Sleeve Buddies?
suzzzzz replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Scale moving so slowly.. this may just be my journey. My metabolism is shot and I don't have that time of the month anymore so can't blame that. My only vice right now is sugar free popsicles! Been having 3 a day and just read the box and they have 4 carbs each. Really? Just doesn't seem right. :-) -
Just listen to your doctor and follow your plan you were given. The healing phase is so important to prevent potential complications. You will be allowed real food again and your life will feel like normal again before you know it.

Struggling with Preop diet
suzzzzz replied to gpjess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried the south beach diet? It offers a huge variety of food, great ideas, recipes, etc. And once you get the junk food out of your system, you cravings will lessen or go away. -
Summer is over - packing away clothes!
suzzzzz replied to KristenLe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Living in Texas, I don't put summer clothes away as we never know if we will have an ice storm or a warm sunny day, and sometimes one right after the other. :-) Don't give them away until you are ready. Maybe you will end up on a trip you don't know about yet and will need something! -
3 weeks put no weight loss
suzzzzz replied to Sherlyn Rodriguez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hit first stall at week 2. Sounds like you are in the advanced class! Your body is going to do what it needs to do to heal, so let it. You only need to worry about doing your part and it sounds like you are. Keep up the good work. -
Weight stall after hospital stay
suzzzzz replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would think a lot of that 15 lbs was water weight so now it has been replaced. Give your body time to heal and adjust. Follow your plan and don't rush yourself mentally. Your body is going to do what it needs to. -
The doc gave me specific thin shakes for the first 3 days. I think I would be so nervous except I had a hernia fixed right at the opening of my stomach. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I also had a hiatal hernia repair with my surgery and it didn't complicate my recovery. I don't think you can drink too much liquid, just too much too fast. Your stomach is swollen so you will feel restriction in the sense that a small sip was enough. Then you have another one. As the swelling goes down, it gets much easier. I may be in the minority, but at 2.5 mths out, I feel a sense of fullness with liquids (16 oz.) and especially Protein Shakes.

Frustrated with protein shakes
suzzzzz replied to lapitcha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like premiere protein and EAS advant edge protein shakes. Both premade and available at grocery and big box stores. -
My plan only allowed 20 min. walks for the first few weeks. I think spinning would be too much so early out. Your body needs to heal both inside and out.

Gagging...so irritating
suzzzzz replied to twinklestar2276's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think gagging is a phase. Try eating smaller bites or sips and slower. At three weeks your stomach is still swollen and healing and needs some tlc. Bites should be the size of a nickel or smaller. If you are already doing that, I dont know how to help as I didn't experience that. -
I began having more energy once I was on solid foods for a week or so. Hang in there.
-
I like the flavor drops added to water (so many to choose from) and Lipton Green Tea light with citrus.

I have more trouble with wantng to clean my plate at home than eating out. At home it is just a small amount left that won't make another meal so it is being g wasted. When eating out, the leftovers make 2 or 3 more meals and nothing is wasted. Not something we just get over. Takes time and effort.
-
Yes! Cleaning our plates was a part of growing up and is deeply ingrained. Using a small plate helps, but when full before finishing I still think I should eat that last couple of bites. I did once and was so uncomfortable I dont want to feel like that again. It is a fine line and we just have to pay close attention to our bodies and ignore those voices from the past. Even when measuring food it can be a challenge as sometimes I just can't eat as much as at other times. We need to deprogram.

I would hold off on peant butter so soon. It is sticky and will cause your stomach to churn a lot to digest it. And, get your protein in first with the shakes or protein supplemented liquids. You won't be able to reach your goals otherwise.

Late June Sleeve Buddies?
suzzzzz replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I have been a bit of a rebel today. Woke up and for whatever reason, didnt want to drink water all day. Have been consuming at least 80 - 100 ozs. to help get out of the up down syndrome. Didn't work as I was up this morning. So,......... I had a margarita while out for lunch with friends and thoroughly enjoyed it! And, I am counting it towards my goal. :-) -
cast iron pre-op stomach = cast iron sleeve?
suzzzzz replied to silverwhitemoon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had any change in how my stomach handles food. Nothing has bothered me before or after. -
I haven't had any changes in taste. Must be one of the few exceptions.

Having a sleeve vs. old school dieting?
suzzzzz replied to stefanie0804's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So you're feeling good that this tool is actually helpful? how did you break away from your old habits? I'm fearful I'll give up and eat the piece of bread instead of the protein first, which is my concern for the willpower part Well, you may end up eating that piece of bread instead of your protein and many post here how they don't follow their doctors plan. It is a choice. For me, I am fully aware that the sleeve is a tool and I have to do my part by eating right to be healthy. The sleeve does help me with no cravings and little hunger. This is what can help make better choices. When I would use willpower, I was fighting a strong urge and I just don't have those urges so willpower hasn't come into play. Sometimes I think about a greasy double cheeseburger or chips and queso, but I don't really desire them anymore. So, I make a healthier choice. Having the slevee does require some mental changes, but it has helped me make those changes. It isn't magic and it is a bit of work to get in all the protein and liquids, but worth it. -
Having a sleeve vs. old school dieting?
suzzzzz replied to stefanie0804's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am just over 2 months out and I dont see willpower being a factor, at least so far. Having a good goal, belief in your surgeon and a huge desire to lose aND keep the weight off makes it different from using willpower for me. A sleeve only allows so much food so it is a great tool not only for portion size, but for eating healthier. There isnt room for much beyond protein requirements. I feel satisfied after eating and don't feel deprived in this weight loss phase. Maintenance will probably come with some more mental adjustments, but I want a good quality of life for the rest of my life. -
Realizing your life is changing
suzzzzz replied to cheneisew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is a great birthday present for you. Celebrate before your preop starts and you won't have to miss out on what you want. I am just a little more than 2 mths out and my life is not completely different. In fact, I feel like I am living a normal life. Only changes are that I eat less, drink more liquid and exercise. All positive things for my life. I celebrated my birthday a month after surgery at a restaurant while on soft foods and was very satisfied and had fun. Have a happy birthday coming up and a good surgery experience. -
Of course call you doctor and check your incisions for signs of infection. And, if you are feeling very bad and are sick, don't hesitate to get help immediately.

Are there any restaurants Bari friendly?
suzzzzz replied to jackieu2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure what you mean by bari friendly, but I eat out a lot and there are always things to order that work. Sometimes a appetizer, egg dish, burger or sandwich without bread, pretty much any meat, veggies, soup, etc. You can eat what you want and take rest home. Also, you can eat the inside of an enchilada or taco for example. If going to a new place, I will check out the menu beforehand to have a good idea of what they offer. Hope that helps. -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
suzzzzz replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@ShelterDog64, good news is that you are not alone with the loss, or lack thereof. Seems to be a pattern with most of us. I have so far to go and seems at times like I will never get to goal. I set my timeline for a year and time is passing quickly! I am way past menopause and happy for that. It wasn't too bad overall but the hot flashes were not fun. You are allowed to be crabby!
