Drinking liquids AFTER a protein shake

Did you have a barium swallow test? Liquids should definitely pass right through your sleeve once you are fully healed. I had a contrast (different then barium) swallow test the day after surgery and all was well. My surgeon said that some do get a feeling of satiety from liquids. Even before surgery I could fill up on liquids. I have not had any issues with any solid foods and am doing great.

Drinking liquids AFTER a protein shake

Liquids do not pass right thru my sleeve. A 16 oz glass of Water leaves me feeling full for over 30 minutes. I have a Protein shake for Breakfast everyday and it keeps me full for at least 2 hrs, sometimes more. My doc didn't advise on not drinking after protein shake but I wait an hour since they fill me up. I am almost 3 mths out and I hope it last a while longer!

    Reassurance, thoughts?

Now is the time to embrace the stall. And there will be many more along your weightloss journey. Your body is healing and adjusting, so do your part with meeting protein and water goals. We all want the weight to just continue to drop but that isn't reality, even though it is frustrating at times.

    Weight regain 42%?

I am almost 3 mths out and I have heard that hunger comes back for some and has to be dealt with. However, if stomach size stays the same and we continue to eat healthy in small portions, the weight won't come back. The sleeve is a tool. That is all it is. We have to do our part.
  5. I bought some quest cookie dough bars today at bed bath and beyond. They had a huge variety of many brands. Anyway, I ate a half of one bar and it was great tasting and filling. I give it 2 thumbs up along with atkins brand.

    Acid-reflux - week 2

Try going back to full liquids for a day or 2 and then try puree again. Mashing is not the same. You need more moisture in food at 2 weeks.

    Know your limits!

Weel, good to be able to identify bread as the culprit. I am almost 3 mths out and haven't tried bread yet. If I am good with it, I don't want to know! :-)

    Time

Meals should be stretched out to 30 minutes as much as possible. I know I used to eat in much less time prior to surgery so I didn't gain any from eating.

    Know your limits!

Beef is hard to digest and other than ground beef I was told to wait 3 mths. Also, wast old when trying new foods to do so one at a time so if something doesn't sit right you know what it is.
  10. Everyone's recovery is different so you should not over promise. I didn't have any issues other than fatigue. You do need to rest as much as you can so your body can heal. Very important that you give yourself breaks. I had my surgery on a Thursday and began a kitchen remodel in my condo the following monday. I didn't do the work but had a barrage of workers, dust and noise for 2 weeks. I survived and managed to nap daily.
  11. Try taking smaller sips and go very slowly. If you are eating food, go back to liquids until you are not in pain. And call your doc if pain continues.

    I just found PatchMD!

I had a large hiatal hernia repaired with my sleeve and began taking pills the day after surgery with no issjes. Just interesting to me how different things are. Have not tried the patches but hopefully others who have will chime in.
  14. I am still surprised you weren't better prepared for post op but I hope you can get the info you want and the support you need going forward from him. Post op diets vary quite a lot among patients.
  15. Ok, I just have to ask.... why isn't your doctor providing any help or support after surgery? The surgery is just the beginning of this journey. Proper diet, vitamins, exercise, and support are key.

    Small Stomach

I am 2.5 mths out and I still have 1-2 protein shakes a day because I cannot eat enough solid protein to meet goal. And, my doc said he determines boogie size individually. He said he gave me a little bit larger one based my personal experiences, health and age. He said he would use a smaller one on someone who was younger and had a lot more weight to lose than I did. He also said it doesn't matter the size in the long run. Everyone can meet their goals.

    Best protein bars

Atkins brand is good with high protein and low carbs.

    Tired at 5wks

Once you are on solid foods for a couple of weeks, you will have less fatigue. At least I did. Body is still healing so just best to go along with it.
  19. They are not all crunchy. Shop around. The chocolate peanut butter by atkins is soft and delish. And, dont be afraid to experiment with new foods. You gotta enjoy your new life. I am 2.5 mths out and haven't had a problem with any food and I hope it stays that way!

    Emotional

I am 2.5 mths out and have not experienced this. I wonder if it is being post menopausal. Hmmm........
  21. They came on my plan at 5 weeks along with solid food. Just be sure they are really high protein, low sugar/carbs. There are many out there that are not good for you. I like atkins brand.
  22. I am 2.5 months out and haven't had any problems eating or drinking.
  23. You have gotten great suggestions and I will just add that you won't be able to eat more than a few bites of whatever soft foods you try. When I ate out during that stage, I had the chicken from the inside of an enchilada, scrambled egg, soup, and a meatball. Different meals and it looked like I hadn't even eaten!
  24. Doubts are normal. Good to give them a voice instead of stuffing them down. I have struggled my whole life up, down, up, down and I had an aha moment one day when my weight was way higher than it had ever been. High blood pressure, prediabetes, and bad knees were going to eventually take me down and at 58, I realized I wanted to totally enjoy the rest of my life. Losing the weight and keeping it off was essential so I decided to have a consultation. I also have a good friend who had surgery and she has been a great coach. Doubts crept in but so did excitement. Soon the excitement took over and I've never looked back. I love my sleeve for so many reasons. Am 2.5 months out. Know your reasons you decided to do this and if it is not quite right for you yet, well, that's OK too! Have faith in yourself.
  25. Have a Protein shake before the wedding so you can reach your goal and it will help if you end up not being able too eat much. Steak is very hard to digest and isn't allowed on my plan until after 3 months. Like you, I don't eat a lot of fish, but that is the best choice for 31 days out. I am going to a wedding tonight also but was told they have various food stations for dinner. Hopefully I will find something good for me.
